Mass Intentions & Memorial Candles
If you would like to have a Mass offered for a particular
Intention or for someone who has died, or if you would like to dedicate
a candle to an intention or a loved one, please call the parish office. The
stipend for the Mass is $10. The candles are $30 for 1 month, $60 for 6
months, or $90 for one year. Our office staff will help you find an open
date and time for a Mass, or available candles for dedications.
It is the Lord! John the beloved immediately recognized Jesus. Peter, upon knowing it was
Jesus from John’s proclamation, jumped out of the boat to meet Jesus on the shore. According
to some literary commentaries, John recognized the Lord due to the familiar. Often we look at
the extraordinary to find and know God. But in reality God reveals himself in the ordinary
circumstances of our lives. Sometimes, God reveals himself in a situation where we refuse to
examine because it has become very normal and does not appeal to us anymore. For example,
we wake up in the morning knowing it is another new day. Perhaps it is another busy day at
work or another chaotic day in the house or another long day attending a meeting.
What’s beautiful in waking up every morning is the gift of another day to experience God. It
is another God-day.
We must be quick to know “It is the Lord” that make things happen in our lives everyday.
o0o
Feed my sheep. I wonder how it would feel to be asked by the Lord to take care of his sheep.
Status and honor may be attached to the personal request Christ asked Peter to do. The disciples were like us who can be
very enthusiastic in getting that special privilege. Fact is they were very competitive. For example, James and John requested the Lord to seat them on his left and right. The other disciples became indignant to these two men upon learning
that kind of request.
Jesus’ request was not one that means status or honor. If it was so, he could have picked John the beloved. He
chose Peter because he needs a pastor.
Pastoral care. “Feed my sheep.” Jesus asked Peter three times to feed his sheep to prove his love to him (Jesus).
Jesus reiterates the necessity of fraternal charity. “Whatever you do to the least of my brethren, you do to me.”
Pastoral care is a daunting task. I think, for one to be a pastor, he has to be like Peter – kind but consistent. I
remember Pope Francis saying that pastoral care is not divorced from doctrine. He reminds all pastors to be able to
charitably take care of the faith community but not forgetting that the centrality of doing pastoral care is the beauty of the
Church teachings.
When I lead you to what is important in our worship and formation, that only means I want to do authentic
pastoral care. Some of you mistake it as being too clerical and very traditional. I respect your opinion but I will do my
best to defend our faith community from any kind of abuse in liturgy and faith formation.
o0o
Heavenly liturgy. John saw the vision of heavenly liturgy. Every time we celebrate the Mass, we participate in
the heavenly liturgy. Is it not a beautiful place to be?
When we come to Mass, how do we act? Do we respect it and consider it as a privileged place to be with the saints and
holy ones of God?

Snacks for Packs (S4P)
This is a food program administered by Fish and
approved by Greater Albany Public Schools (GAPS).
It provides packs of nutritious, child-friendly “snacks” to students attending a GAPS school, and who are identified as experiencing food insecurity, to consume on the weekends while away from the schools’ breakfast
and lunch programs.
Fish would love if the parishioners of St. Mary’s would contribute
granola bars and cereal bars. There will be a Fish collection
barrel near the back entrance off the playground parking lot to put them
in. This will run over the next couple weekends, so if you can’t help out
today, please bring some in any time up thru May 8th. Thank you.
