Township of South Frontenac - District Recreation Committees
Salute the Recreation Guide - Thank you to all Advertisers
This page is jointly sponsored by the four district Recreation Committees of
Bedford, Loughborough, Portland & Storrington
“Volunteers are the backbone of a community. They are the unsung heroes who make
good things happen.” ~ Former Mayor Phil Leonard
The township’s four District Recreation Committees are comprised of dedicated volunteers who
organize, promote and manage important community programs such as baseball, soccer, Canada
Day celebrations, summer day camps and swim programs. The committees ensure township park
facilities are in top playing condition for the local associations that raise funds and organize team
sports. Monitoring and maintenance of beaches, boat ramps, community centres, cross country
trails, and playgrounds are also a priority. Each district controls and is responsible for its own
recreational programs and facilities.
The Recreation Committees of Bedford, Loughborough, Portland & Storrington strive to build
community spirit. They encourage children of all ages to participate in recreational activities,
learn teamwork and build healthy bodies.

Each district is responsible for its own operating and capital expenditures. Ultimate approval and
responsibility for them is vested in council via the district councillors. The four district recreation
committees are responsible for a total annual operating budget of approximately half a million
dollars, or about 5% of the township’s operating budget. The total district capital expenditures
average about $500,000 annually or 10% of the township’s capital expenditures.
Meetings are open to the public. Delegations are welcome when major issues come before the
committees.
The Township Recreation Committee, or Central Recreation Committee, is
comprised of the chair and vice chair from each district Recreation Committee.
It has been assembled to tackle such priorities as the Master Recreation Plan and
the full safety review and report on the township’s parks’ playground equipment.

Message from the Mayor
On behalf of the Council of the Township of South
Frontenac, I wish to welcome you to the third edition
of the South Frontenac Recreation Guide. The Guide
has improved every issue and holds a wealth of information to benefit all readers, especially those looking
to participate in activities across the Township.
As with all community events and groups, we rely heavily on the involvement of volunteers. Without them, many of these
programs would not exist or our ability to provide them would be severely
compromised. To these people, we offer our sincere appreciation.
As well, we would like to thank the advertisers who make this guide
possible. Without their financial support, we would not be able to produce
and distribute the guide. Please do your best to patronize these businesses
as it is through their economic prosperity that they will be here in the future
to continue to assist with these types of activities.
South Frontenac Township is a large geographic area with a great
diversity of interests. Hopefully by participation, you will enrich both yourself
and the community as a whole. Perhaps this will inspire you and your friends
to also look at new activities that could be included in the next edition.
Please read this guide carefully to see what may be of specific interest to
you and keep it mind for the coming year for yourself, your family and your
friends. By participating in these activities, we make South Frontenac a
vibrant community in which we are all proud to live.
Thanks to all involved in this guide for making it such a wonderful s
uccess.
Bill Lake, Mayor
Township of South Frontenac
