Priest Perspective
Dear People of God,
Mercy is shown in many ways!!!
In this year of Mercy led by Pope
Francis, we (Holy Family Parish)
want to show mercy in as many
ways as we can throughout this
year and always. Hospitality is a
way that we can show mercy
without cost and we get the benefit of meeting and encountering
all of God’s people.
I challenge each one of you after
each Mass to meet someone you
don’t know. Introduce yourself
and show kindness and compassion to all you meet. This makes
present the opportunity to evangelize, show God’s Mercy and
Love, and of course to make new
friends.
In this Year of Mercy don’t be
afraid to feel God’s Mercy and to
share it with all you meet. In
showing mercy we become vessels ready to receive God’s Mercy showering upon us.
May God’s Mercy wrap you in
love,
Fr. Orrin

PRAYER OF POPE FRANCIS FOR THE JUBILEE
Lord Jesus Christ,
You have taught us to be merciful like the heavenly Father,
And have told us that whoever sees you sees Him.
Show us your face and we will be saved.
Your loving gaze freed Zacchaeus and Matthew from being enslaved by money;
The adulteress and Magdalene from seeking happiness only in created things;
Made Peter weep after his betrayal,
And assured Paradise to the repentant thief.
Let us hear, as if addressed to each one of us, the words that you spoke to the Samaritan woman:
“If you knew the gift of God!”
You are the visible face of the invisible Father,
Of the God who manifests his power above all by forgiveness and mercy:
Let the Church be your visible face in the world, its Lord risen and glorified.
You willed that your ministers would also be clothed in weakness
In order that they may feel compassion for those in ignorance and error:
Let everyone who approaches them feel sought after, loved, and forgiven by God.
Send your Spirit and consecrate every one of us with its anointing,
So that the Jubilee of Mercy may be a year of grace from the Lord,
And your Church, with renewed enthusiasm, may bring good news to the poor,
Proclaim liberty to captives and the oppressed,
And restore sight to the blind.
We ask this of you, Lord Jesus, through the intercession of Mary, Mother of Mercy; you who live
and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit for ever and ever.
Amen.
A JUBILEE PRAYER FOR MERCY
Loving God Help us live out in our daily lives the mercy which you constantly extend to all of us.
As you cast open the doors of your heart to us may we respond with urgency to proclaim your
mercy to others.
May we always be credible witnesses to mercy, professing it and living it as the core of the
revelation of Jesus Christ.
May we neve tire of extending mercy, and be ever patient in offering compassion and comfort.
May we become the voice of every man and woman, and repeat confidently without end:
“Be mindful of your mercy, O Lord, and your steadfast love, for they have been from of old”
(Ps 25:6).
Amen.

Facts: Money is suspected to have been stolen from the 2nd collection at 5 pm mass
at St. Patrick; the entire 2nd collection was stolen at the noon mass at St. Mary’s.
Investigation: The police were notified of these events and the newspaper published
a brief report on the stolen collection at St. Mary’s; Detective Burris with the Galveston Police Department had a suspect and a verbal confession at the time of publishinga more formal confession was planned after publication of this bulletin.
Response: We responded to the newspaper on 1/12/16 assuring their readership
and our parishioners that our security measures are in place and that we are adding
additional measures. For example, tamper-evident bags, drop safes, cameras, retraining of ushers, and enhanced control of money counting.

at either 5 pm at St. Patrick or 12 noon at St. Mary’s.
