Vocations – “Whoever wishes to be great among you will be your
servant; whoever wishes to be first among you will be the slave of
all.” True greatness comes when we let go of our own wants and
desires so that we may serve others as Christ did. Riches of this
world will not bring true happiness, doing God’s will can. Are you
ready to let go of all that holds you back from hearing God’s call to
serve as a deacon, religious or priest? Call Fr. Chris Luoni at 330744-8451 or [email protected].
Intercession for Life – Let us pray for all who are tempted
to suicide that through our love and faith we might encourage
them to embrace the cross and to live in obedience to their
loving Lord.
The Year of Faith – “For faith is the beginning and the end
is love, and God is the two of them brought into unity. After
these comes whatever else that makes up a Christian
gentleman.”
St. Ignatius of Antioch, Letter to the Ephesians

Affirming the Sanctity of Marriage – An Invitation
Bishop Murry invites couples who are married civilly but not in the
Church to inquire about beginning the validation process (Having
your marriage blessed by the Church). Please contact our parish
office (330-833-6898) before October 28th to inquire about
beginning the marriage validation process.
Sacrament of Confirmation for Adults
Sunday, December 2 at 2:00 p.m.
in St. Columba Cathedral
Bishop George V. Murry, S.J., will celebrate the Sacrament of
Confirmation for adults on Sunday, December 2 at 2:00 p.m. in St.
Columba Cathedral. This is a special opportunity for parishioners
age 18 or older who have not received the sacrament to join with
other adults of the diocese.
Confirmation candidates must register with St. Barbara parish and
participate in Confirmation preparation. Candidates must be
prepared and eligible to receive the sacrament by verifying baptism
and marital status, Confirmation preparation and eligibility of
sponsors. Sponsors must be confirmed, practicing Catholics and
may not be the candidate’s parent.
Please contact the Rectory no later than October 22nd in order
to register and verify eligibility to receive the sacrament.
Afterglow of the Eucharist
A Simple Blessing Prayer
(After all Masses on October 27/28)
Jesus says “Come to Me…” He wants to bless you. He wants you
to ask Him for the things you need. Do you have an illness? Come.
Do you have financial troubles? Come. Do you have friends who
need prayers? Come. Are you thankful for what He has done for
you? Come. Come to His altar. There are teams there to pray for
you. Nothing is too great or too small for Him. So come!
Memorial Mass on November 8th – Many of our parishioners have
experienced the death of a loved one in the past year. We invite
everyone to attend a Memorial Mass on Thursday, November 8th
at 7:00 p.m. This is an opportunity for our praying community to
offer comfort and support to the bereaved of our parish. We will
pray for all the deceased but especially for those who died since
November, 2011. During the Mass, there will be a candle lighting
ceremony. Please provide us with the information below for family
members whose funerals took place elsewhere this past year, so
they can be remembered at our Memorial Mass. Return by
November 4th in the collection basket or mail to: St. Barbara Parish,
2813 Lincoln Way NW, Massillon, OH 44647.

Faithful Citizenship
Catholics must avoid voting for any candidate who intends to support
programs or laws that are intrinsically evil. The 5 Non-Negotiables are:
Abortion – Euthanasia – Embryonic Stem Cell Research – Human Cloning
– and Same Sex Marriage. To vote in favor of a law so harmful to the
common good is gravely immoral.
WORLD MISSION SUNDAY – OCTOBER 21, 2012
Every year something special happens on the next-to-the-last Sunday of
October – the Church reflects its deepest identity – as the Church in
Mission. On World Mission Sunday, we are called in a special way to be
“missionaries of faith” through prayer and participation in the Eucharist and
by giving generously to the collection.
In a world where so much divides us, World Mission Sunday rejoices in our
unity as missionaries! And it provides an opportunity to support the lifegiving presence of the Church among the suffering and the poor in more
than 1,150 mission dioceses.
Pope Benedict XVI prays that World Mission Sunday and the Year of Faith
(October, 2012 through November, 2013) will bring “renewed energy to the
mission of the world Church to lead men and women out of the desert
toward friendship with Christ who gives fullness of life.
A HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who helped with Fall Clean-up last
Saturday; with a special thanks to the students who helped. St. Barbara
parish is very blessed to have people who give so freely of their time.
St. Barbara Cub Scout Pack would like to Thank You for your
incredible generosity! We sold over $800 in popcorn after the
Masses. Thank you for your support of our boys.
