CHWC October 2014 Newsletter
Our President’s Message
What a great start for the new Club year….over 170 ladies attended the September
Luncheon! We welcomed 24 new members and 7 guests. We celebrated over 50
Members’ birthdays covering June through September and had a special Power
Point presentation by our talented Newsletter Editor and Webmaster on our new
website. We also distributed our new, bright orange covered Membership Directory. Many thanks to Carol Peterman, a Past President, for volunteering to handle
that big job over the summer.
We have an exciting year ahead, and our Activities Committee has done it again!
Their great selection of monthly trips is filling up fast, and the Halloween Golf
Scramble is too. Be sure to contact the Chairs if you missed the opportunity to sign
up You will want to mark February 7th on your calendar for The Mardi Gras Ball,
an evening that will be full of surprises and much fun. This will be a welcome return of an evening dinner dance and our newest Ways and Means event.
Please remember that we will be collecting warm clothing, coats sweaters, sweatshirts, hats gloves and mittens for our second year of Operation Keep Citrus Warm
at our October and November meetings. We have a wonderful speaker, Gerry Mulligan, booked to entertain us at the October Luncheon. November brings our annual Bake and Craft Sale so we need our crafty members to get busy on some
wonderful crafty items to donate, and bakers, look over your recipes and see what
culinary delights you can create to share with us!
Fondly,
Nancy
CHWC Fall Nine Hole Halloween Golf Scramble
It’s time for the CHWC Fall Nine Hole Halloween Golf Scramble. Join us if you dare Friday October 31st on
the Meadows Golf Course for a Spooktacular day. This Bi-Annual golf event is always the hit of the season. We
are gearing up early for a sellout again this year with a limit of 80 witches and goblins.
There will be lots of fun, prizes and gifts for the best costumes, plus prizes for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams.
You can pick your cartmate – or sign up alone but you cannot pick your foursome. We will leave that up to the Ghost in the
Pro Shop. There will be breakfast on the go and lunch afterwards in the garden room – all of this for just $39.00.
The signup sheets will be at the CHWC luncheon in September, in the ladies lounge, and the board outside of the Pro Shop.
Open to members and guests.
Sign up early to ensure a spot for this scary Trick or Treat golf event. Questions? Call Julie Wolf at 513-4787 or Jan
Weaver at 513-4189.
Please go to the new Citrus Hill Women’s Club website. All
Newsletters, Important Events and many photographs of

Mardi Gras
Ball
February 7, 2015
CHWC celebrates Mardi Gras with
a Ball on February 7, 2015.
We encourage the wearing of Mardi Gras masks and/or costumes, but dressy or
business casual attire will do for this festive event. The evening begins with a
cash bar, four stations for your dining pleasure that include a salad bar (regular
and Caesar), carving station, pasta station (including a New Orleans inspired
dish and gluten free pasta); and a dessert station with a variety of delicious treats.
Fred Campbell, popular DJ at Citrus Hills, will provide music and singing for
your listening and dancing pleasure. There will be time to view and bid on the
donated Silent Auction items and then have fun with the reverse drawing.
A fun filled evening, all for the price of $38 per person. We will begin taking
reservations at the October Luncheon. You can sign up with a group (table of 8),
as a couple(s), or as a single guest. The event is limited to 200 guests. Payment
assures your place at what will be a highlight of the CHWC year.
Contact Ileen Zavoda or Joan Herzog for further information at 527-3104
or 419-6399.

Reminder
CHWC Bake and Crafts Sale
Just a gentle reminder that we
will hold our traditional favorite…
the Bake and Craft Sale at the NoAnd Crafts Too!
vember 12th luncheon. Put on
your baking hats and come up with
some exciting desserts (or breads).
Please think of what you can
contribute to our tasty and talented
offerings at the sale. Our members look
forward to this event to stock up on treats and gifts for the holidays. November is
such a fun meeting with your creative crafts and wonderful baked goodies for purchase or win in silent auction. This is really a good fund raiser for our charities and
scholarship efforts while showcasing your recipes.
Sign up sheet will be at the October luncheon. Contact Jan Bauer at 249-7543
for crafts and Peggy Bock at 637-5770 or Judy Cummins at 746-0325 for deserts and baked items.
Craft Project Supplies Needed
We need your help for a craft project. Please bring in any items such as ribbon,
buttons, hats, glitter, stickers, glue sticks, artificial fall flowers, colored markers
etc. There will be a box for all your crafts at the Sept. and Oct. luncheon. Thank
you for your help. Contact Jan Weaver at 513-4189 for additional

Activity
Our first activity of the year will be creating a very special, light as a feather
necklace using what is called ladder or
trellis yarn. As you can see from the
photos, the necklace can be quite a stunning accessory! It is easy, using only a
simple crochet chain stitch that is easily
mastered.
There is an alternative pattern that requires only a needle and a simple in and
out stitch.
Be sure to sign up for the class to be
held on Tuesday, October 21st at our
September luncheon meeting. You will
choose from a wide selection of yarns
and pick your style of necklace.
If you will miss the September or October luncheons, please call Nancy
Kellow at 746-9820 to register. Seating
will be limited, so don’t delay!
Gear Up for Operation Keep
Citrus Warm!
After the huge success of our inaugural effort to collect
coats last year, the Citrus Hills Women’s Club is gearing
up to once again help meet the needs of those in need in
Citrus County. Since we collected over 1000 coats last
year, we are expanding our efforts to include hats,
gloves and mittens, sweatshirts and blankets to help
those in need of protection from our winter cold spells.
At our October 8th and November 12th luncheon meeting, we will have a huge collection box outside the door
to the club. Please check your closets and ask your
friends and family to do the same. We need clean, gently
worn garments, and of course will welcome new ones
too! Children’s sizes are particularly needed, so check
with your children and grandchildren to see if they
would like to donate too. Together, we can “Keep Citrus
Warm!”

committee to capture what the club
does throughout the year. If you are
interested, please contact Nancy Kellow at 746-9820 or
[email protected].

Learn How to Use Your PC
and the Internet
Do you want to learn more about the
Internet or maybe just your own PC?
Any topic is good but here are a few
that I am hearing about:
 How can I create a free email account?
 I want to shop on the Internet—is
it safe and how do I do this?
 I download files and do not know
where they are stored.
 How do I open an attachment?
 How can I send an email to my
wireless printer for printing?
My printer has faxing capabilities'
but I do not know how to use it?
 My son gave me his iPod and I
want to put my own songs on it?
 How do I create a Face Book
page?

Raffle Supports Scholarships
At the September meeting 27 members donated $10 or more
toward the scholarship drawings; a special thank you to all
who participated.
During the months of January through April one lucky ticket holder each month will receive $100.
Take a chance at the October meeting for just $10; that lucky winner might be you! The
Scholarship Committee’s goal is to raise $1400 through the donations. If more than that
is raised an additional drawing will be held in May. Ten students begin college this fall
with the $1000 they received from the CHWC from last year’s fundraisers. In addition
four students were given $500 each to attend the Withlacoochee Training Institute.
Conttact Judy Stone at 746-3415 for additional information.
