Electric Scooters
Electric scooters are used by people unable to walk long distances, those needing greater access to their local community
or, more commonly, as a replacement for their car. There are many questions to consider when choosing an electric
mobility scooter. The key is finding the right product, at the right price, to suit the specific needs of each individual. Some
of the most common considerations are:

3 - W h e e l scooters offer more legroom, making them better suited to taller users or those with knee problems. Their
tighter turning circle makes them more manoeuvrable, for example, inside shops or for general indoor use. Some consider
3-wheel scooters to be ‘unstable’, however when driven correctly they are stable and safe to use.
4 - W h e e l scooters have a sturdier and more stable feel when driving, especially when using the scooter over rough or
uneven surfaces.

Choosing the right size will depend on a number of factors. Obviously your height and weight
will make a significant difference as well as the type of use for which the scooter is intended.
Portable Scooter
P o r t a b l e S c o o t e r s Great for people needing to transport regularly. Ideally suited to
smaller framed users, primarily for indoor use on flat surfaces. Speeds vary up to 7km/h and
most offer a maximum distance between 16-30km per charge.
M e d i u m S c o o t e r s By far the most popular size of scooter. Suitable for general outdoor
use, limited indoor use and occasional transporting. These scooters offer varying speeds up to
10km/h and a maximum distance between 25-30km per charge.

L a r g e S c o o t e r s More suited to larger framed users, with weight capacities up to 220kg,
spacious legroom and softer suspension. These scooters can handle harsher terrain, steeper
hills and more robust usage. They offer varying speeds up to 15km/h and a maximum distance
between 40-50km per charge.

DO YOU NEED TO TRANSPORT THE WHEELCHAIR?
If so, the weight of the wheelchair will be important to the person lifting it in and out of the vehicle. Aluminium alloy
wheelchairs are approximately half the weight of the same size steel models. You are also able to remove the wheels and

WHICH TYPE AND SIZE?
Self propelled (24” wheel) are those that can be propelled by the user. Transit versions (12” wheel) must be pushed at all

Our patient handling equipment range includes electric lifters that
facilitate patient transfers and stand up lifters that are specifically
designed for patients who have reasonable weight bearing capability
but require standing or seating assistance.
Lifters are designed to minimise the risk of back problems and other
injuries among caregivers and enable easy transfers. They are widely
used in Hospitals, Aged Care facilities and domestic homes.

Patient Lifters
B I R D I E & B I R D I E C O M PAC T
With maximum space for the user, the Birdie offers a truly comfortable
lift and transfer to or from beds, chairs or even the floor. The Birdie
gives a very comfortable lift and transfer since the user can easily be
rotated in the lifter. The Birdie folds and unfolds easily without the need
for tools and comes standard with electric leg adjustment (up to 104cm),
minimum overall width of 67.5cm and a 170kg weight limit.
The Birdie Compact, with manual leg adjustment (up to 89cm), is
designed to fold easily without tools and can be stored or transported
comfortably when space is limited - see picture. The compact base (just
53cm wide) enables easy manoevring in narrow places, and with a
weight capacity of 150kg, this lifter is ideal for everyday lifting in the
home or aged care facility environment.

The robust IPL 205 can handle users up to 205kg and offers sufficient

OMEGA 300
The Omega 300, with a huge 300kg bariatric lift capacity, offers extreme

two types of slings available, based on whether it is a loop or keyhole

Roze stand-up lifter. Keyhole attachment sling designed for use with the
Invacare RPS440 stand-up lifter.

Lifter Accessories
INVACARE 2 POINT SPREADER BARS
Recommend for most common lifting requirements and for use with most
slings. Comes standard with all Invacare Lifters.
INVACARE 4 POINT SPREADER BARS
Suitable when larger spacing between back and leg is required. It also
facilitates a more reclined sitting posture. The 4-point spreader bar works
best with slings that have head support.
INVACARE PIVOT FRAMES
The Pivot Frame allows the whole frame to be tilted back and forward to
assist in the positioning of the patient. Assists with the lifting of a patient
in either a sitting or lying position, ideal for lifting on and off a bed or
the floor. The Pivot Frame can only be used with the Invacare range of
Pivot Slings.
INVACARE WEIGHING DEVICES
Accurately and easily weigh patients during daily transfers. The weighing
devices connect above the spreader bar and are easy to use and read.

walking. During rehabilitation, a person may progress from one type
of aid to another as their strength increases and their need for support
lessens. Walking aids can be of great benefit to:

WALKING STICKS
Walking sticks provide assistance for those able to walk but
are prone to unbalance or need to control weight bearing
on one leg. Our walking sticks are height adjustable and
designs include:
• Single point – the most common, usually made of wood or
aluminium
• Four point (Quad cane) – ideal for those who need more
stability
CRUTCHES
Crutches transfer more weight from the legs, ankles and feet,
to the arms, hands and shoulders. Crutches are generally
inexpensive, require little training to use, and do not depend

Bathroom & Toilet Aids
As well as being the most essential room in the house, the bathroom can also be one of the most dangerous and, in many
cases, inaccessible to the elderly or disabled. But there are many simple ways to make the bathroom safer and much easier
to use. Here is some useful information and handy tips on how to overcome the bathroom blues.
T H E B AT H
Obviously the biggest concern is how to get into and out of
the bath safely. A few hints to help:
• There is a good range of shower commodes and mobile
transporters available, which can be safely used in a
shower. In this case, a hand held shower hose is more
functional for seated people.
• Remove all rugs and carpet. Make sure the floor is
non-slip or fit a non-slip mat next to the bath. A non-slip
mat inside the bath is essential.
THE TOILET
• To help get in and out, the bath should have a clamp-on
grab rail or there should be a grab rail fitted on the wall.
• A bath board can help by sitting the person on the board
before swinging their legs into the bath.
For those unable to use the toilet, commodes, urinals and
bedpans help. For people who can use the toilet, products
are available that overcome height or accessibility problems:
• Hand held bath or shower hoses are essential for sitting
• Grab rails fitted to the wall or the actual toilet surround
frame also assist.

THE SHOWER
While a shower is usually a lot easier to negotiate for
many people, there are still many products that can make
showering safer and easier.

the shower.
• Shower stools or chairs make showering more comfortable
• Install grab rails for extra security.
• Raised toilet seats help patients get on and off more easily.
COMMODES
Bedside commodes are excellent for patients who are
bedridden or if the patient is unable to use their bathroom.
Commodes come in many models from fully upholstered
chairs to folding or mobile versions. They are all designed to
be used with a commode pan or other receptacle.

The Aquatec Orca bath lift is an electric bath chair that lowers and lifts the
user in and out of the bath, reducing the strain on the user and preventing the
