Executive Summary
!
This report focuses on analyzing the different Root Beer Float options offered
around the University of North Texas’ main campus. The purpose of this
feasibility report is to help people in the surroundings areas of the UNT main
campus to find the best Root Beer Float option that can refresh them. To find the
best Root Beer float we came up with the following criteria:
• Price
• Temperature
• Amount of time required to prepare the float
• Calories
Our recommendation based on our analysis was that Mr. Frosty’s offered the
best Root Beer Float due to its temperature, amount of time to prepare and its
calories.

Introduction
!
We identified that during summer people that live in the Denton area get really
hot. As a solution to this problem we agreed that root beer floats are always a
perfect answer. We decided to analyze all the possible root beer float options in a
2-mile radius from the UNT main campus, scaling our analyses to four locations:
• Beth Marie’s
• Braum’s
• Mr Frosty’s
• Sonic
In order to determine which root beer float is the best option we compared prices,
temperature, time to prepare the float and calories.

Methods
!
In the interest of determining what establishment offers the best root beer float,
we decided to use the following criteria to determine our final decision:
!
Price
We will compare the prices of each float to see which one cost the least amount.
We will also record how much float you get for that price. This will show us the
ratio between cost and the amount of float that is supplied. Obviously, we are
looking for a float that has a low cost and a large amount of float given.
!
Temperature
We will measure the temperature of the float to find out which float is the coldest
on a hot summer day. This will be done as soon as the floats are handed to us
using a cooking thermometer. Since we are trying to cool down from a hot
summer day, the colder the float, the better it will be.
!
Amount of Time Required to Make Float
We will also measure the time it takes for each location to make the float. This
will be measured by using a stopwatch, timed from when we step up to the
register to when we receive the float in our hands. To make sure that it is a fair
test, we will visit all the places at the same time of the day. The faster that the
float is made, the sooner that we can cool off from the hot summer day.
!
Calories
We will request the nutritional facts of each of the floats that we order. After
comparing the total amount of calories in each float we will determine a “healthier
float” by choosing the float with the least amount of calories.

Results
!
The results of our investigation are the following:
!
Price Results
!
Price
Cup Size
Cost per oz
Beth Marie’s
$3.20
16oz
$0.2
Braum’s
$2.99
20oz
$0.1495
Mr. Frosty’s
$3.59
16oz
$0.224375
Sonic
$3.09
20oz
$0.1545
!
Even though there was a difference in the cup size, we divided the price by the
cup size in order to get the cost per oz and be able to compare the prices fairly.
In the previous table we can se how Braum’s offers the cheapest Root Beer Float
while Mr. Frosty’s the most expensive one.
!
Temperature Results
!
Temperature (°F)
Beth Marie’s
37.4
Braum’s
37.5
Mr Frosty’s
36.9
Sonic
37.1
!
We are able to see that all the temperatures were really similar, but Mr. Frosty’s
was the winner on this category, second place for Sonic, third place for Beth
Marie’s and last place for Braum’s.

Amount of Time Required to Make Float Results
!
Time (Seconds)
Beth Marie’s
258.12
Braum’s
127.00
Mr Frosty’s
23.20
Sonic
140.15
!
The information recollected for the time taken to prepare the Root Beer Float
clearly shows that Mr. Frosty’s was by far the quickest place to get a Root Beer
Float.
!
Calories Results
!
Calories
Beth Marie’s
350
Braum’s
480
Mr Frosty’s
350
Sonic
520
!
Although it is important to state that Beth Marie’s and Mr. Frosty’s offer a smaller
cup size, they still have fewer calories on their Root Beer Floats. In addition, all
members of the group agreed that even though Beth Marie’s and Mr. Frosty’s cup
size were smaller, they were big enough to make you feel refreshed. !9
Recommendation
!
Based on our research we recommend people to get a Root Beer Float
from Mr. Frosty’s because it was the best one in three out four categories. It was
the coldest one, the quickest one to prepare and the one with fewer calories. This
also means that Mr. Frosty’s offers the Root Beer Float that will refresh you the
more, the one that will take less of your time and the healthiest one for your body.
We would also like to state that Mr. Frosty’s is the only establishment, out of the
four analyzed ones, that offers their Root Beer Floats in a frozen mug.
