Dear Premier Club Member,
July is undeniably the poster-child month for summer. It contains the
4th of July weekend, barbecues, poolside entertaining and for those of us with kids,
chaotic households of messy bedrooms and time away for a family vacation. My large
family started cruising years ago simply because mobilizing three generations and three
different families became a logistical nightmare. That said; my father-in-law, the standing
patriarch, enforced one rule, everyone was to show up at the dinner table at our set time.
Dining at one of the largest tables on the ship became a trademark for what we annually
call, “The Griswalds on the High Seas”.
Dining together should be a staple of the family mental scrapbook; this is one of the
reasons we elected to keep Lucca opened over the summer and offer later food service
at Beaches at the Beach Club. We added a DJ on the pool deck to add another reason to
let the kids swim a little longer and let you relax a little longer. I vividly recall long summer
days at our Club in Westchester County, New York, and believe that whether you live in
today’s digital age or yesterday’s “analog” age, a pool is a pool, the beach is the beach
and a chaise lounge remains a sanctuary of relaxation. And when the day is over, being
able to keep everyone together for a convenient dinner, even if still in a bathing suit,
solidifies the day in everyone’s memory. The Club plays a role in that summer lifestyle
and our objective is to make it easy for you to enjoy not only the services, restaurants
and activities, but to maximize life’s most precious commodity, time.
The Premier membership is really a conduit to the lifestyle that you want to lead. It takes
on different meanings for different members. Whether it is facilitating your summer
beach time, hosting a birthday party or providing the place for dancing on a Friday night,
the Club sets out to solidify these times into memories.
As always, please reach out to me with any thoughts, suggestions or general comments
on how we operate your Club ([email protected]).

Summer Shapes Up
at Lucca
with New Family “Trattoria” Menu
and More Casual Atmosphere
Our trattoria-inspired summer menu features nine distinctive types of pasta, which,
according to Lucca Chef Adam Pile, are the perfect foundation for a hearty pasta
dish featuring Pork Ragu. The shape of each various type of pasta serves a purpose.
The ridges and tubular shape of rigatoni, a very popular type of pasta in the south of
Italy, are great for catching sauce – as Chef Adam’s Rigatoni with
Meatballs, featuring creamy ricotta cheese and Sunday Gravy, clearly
demonstrates. The small, curved ridges of gnocchetti add to the
delights of Lucca’s Gnocchetti with Pesto Genovese, a dish made
with flavorful basil pesto and toasted pine nuts. And while
spaghetti traditionally accompanies meat and tomato dishes,
flat ribbons of linguine (Italian for “little tongues”) are a
better match for seafood dishes, like Lucca’s luscious Linguine
con Vongole made with plump Cedar Creek Clams.
A variety of summer specialties include dishes the kids will love with popular pasta
dishes for $10-14 and grilled pizzas for $12 -16. This summer you need look no further
than Lucca to enjoy a world of flavor! Closed Sunday and Monday. For reservations,
please call 447-5822.
These days, it’s easy to enjoy seafood
anywhere in the country, any time of
year. The sweet flavor of soft shell crabs,
however, remains a seasonal treat. At
Morimoto, you can enjoy this summer
delicacy in a delicious Soft Shell Crab
Tempura served with kochujan aioli,
ponzu sauce and mixed greens. The
cooking process – meaty mouthfuls of
crab are dipped in a distinctively light
batter then briefly fried in hot oil – locks
in the fresh, tender summer flavor.
Summer may boast the longest days of
the year, but this delicious taste of the
season won’t last long! Hurry in to
Morimoto today. We are open for dinner
nightly from 6 to 10 pm.

Meet Me at the Palm Court! This summer, you can dance the night away at Palm Court every
weekend. Our DJ fills the lush space with music every Friday and Saturday night starting at 8 pm.
On Friday nights we “Flashback” to your favorite sounds from the ‘70s, ‘80s and ‘90s; on Saturdays

floor to enjoy a little something from the menu at Palm Court. Let our marvelous mixologists introduce
you to Mango Madness, a refreshingly cool cocktail made with Svedka Clementine Vodka, Triple Sec,
cranberry juice and, of course, mango, or sink your teeth into something tasty, like a Palm Court Burger
made with Angus beef, onions and gooey gruyere atop a toasted onion brioche roll. With our Late

“al forno,” as well as a South Beach Cobb Salad or one of several delicious pizzas. Dinner menu

Your
Summer
Survival
Guide
You don’t need me to tell you: summer sizzles in South
Florida. There’s no need to let the heat and humidity keep you
from enjoying a great round of golf, though. Just be sure to follow
these steps to keep yourself properly hydrated and your body cool
when you’re on the course during the summer months:
•Hydrate yourself before, during and after your round.
•Drink water or sports drinks even before you become thirsty.
•When you think you’re not thirsty anymore, continue to drink past
quenching your thirst.
•Avoid alcohol and caffeine as these are major dehydrators. Steer clear
of sugary drinks like soda, too.
•Drink small amounts continuously; 20 ounces every four holes is a
good rule of thumb.
•If you need an extra energy boost, reach for a banana, nuts, apple
or raisins.
•Adjust your wardrobe; light colors reflect the heat and help keep
you cool.
•Your golf outfit should always include a hat, sunscreen and
sunglasses.
•Keep a cold towel with you to wipe your face and neck.
•Leave the golf course at the first sign of heat exhaustion (headache,
nausea or dizziness).

Come to Boca Raton
As we already know tennis is a metaphor for life; it is a sport that teaches us how
to overcome adversity with discipline and determination. This summer, as the Boca Raton Resort & Club
welcomes the Americas Team Games, you will discover that tennis can also be a bridge to different people and
cultures … and to amazing opportunities.
From August 11-15, the Americas Team Games will provide the best 10 and under players in the Americas (North,

2013 Boca’s
Ballroom Battle
Community Leaders compete in Dance Competition
to raise scholarship money
The event of the summer is fast approaching
“Boca’s Ballroom Battle 2013”, will take place
on August 16th, 2013 at the Boca Raton
Resort & Club. This is the sixth annual dance
competition starring Boca Raton community
leaders and patterned after the popular
“Dancing with the Stars” television program.
“This year we have a lineup that is impressive
— and motivated”, says Tim Snow, president
of the George Snow Scholarship Fund. “This
is the DO NOT MISS event of the summer
as eight of our community’s most recognizable
personalities take to the dance floor for a good cause. Not to mention
that coveted “Mirror Ball” trophy.”
Paired with professional dancers from Fred Astaire Dance Studio Boca
Raton, community leaders will be given a series of dance lessons to perfect
a routine, and then compete for the grand prize at an elegant cocktail
reception and dance. All proceeds from the event will benefit the
George Snow Scholarship Fund.
This year’s Boca’s Ballroom Battle Community dancers are:
•Mark Brockelman-SVP-Chief Financial & Administrative Officer
of the Miami Dolphins and Sun Life Stadium
•Gary Collins-General Manager, Frenchman’s Reserve Country Club,
A Toll Brothers Community
•Dr. Anthony N. Dardano-Plastic Surgeon, Anthony N. Dardano,
D.O., F.A.C.S.
•Dorothy MacDiarmid-Partner, Cloud 9 Consulting, Branding & Consulting
•Marie Occhigrossi-Attorney, Weitz & Luxenberg
•S. Chris Palermo-Founder and CEO, Global Communication Networks, Inc.
•Cecilia Peters-Educator, Westminster Academy
•Marie Speed-Editor, Boca Magazine
The event will kick off at 6 PM with a cocktail reception and live
entertainment, followed by the competition at 7PM. And don’t miss
the After Party in the Palm Court at 9:30 PM with more entertainment
by Alex Romano and DJ JRichards. Limited tickets are available starting
at $150. All tickets include, two cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. For more

D every friday! ie
As the Beach Boys wisely advise, “Don’t be afraid to try the greatest sport around…
Catch a wave!” When Brian Wilson and Mike Love penned those lyrics in the 1960s, many
thought that surfing would be just a fad. The sport’s enduring popularity has proved the
naysayers wrong.
Morgan Baer of the Billabong Surf School at the Boca Beach Club can teach you and your
kids how to catch a wave and introduce you to that exquisite feeling the Beach Boys
described as “sitting on top of the world.” Morgan, who is certified in CPR and first aid,
has taught surfing for the past eight years and is the owner and partner at Costa del Este
Water Sports. A national champion swimmer and competitive water polo player, he grew
up on the beach just south of Deerfield on Hillsboro Mile catching waves and free diving
for lobster and fish. He taught himself to surf at age 13 and found a lifelong passion.
“Surfing is a great sport for improving your balance, increasing strength and flexibility
and improving cardiovascular fitness,” he says. “But the best surfer is the one having
the most fun.”
The Surf School by Billabong is offered on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays
from to 9 am to 12 noon. Private lessons are available daily from 10 am to 4 pm. Clinics
are also offered seven days a week from 12 noon to 1 pm. For more information on
the Surf School and special surf events or for reservations, please call 447-3385.

PURPOSE!
Are you concerned about wrinkles, brown spots and dry, leathery skin? You should
be! According to The Skin Cancer Foundation, up to 90 percent of the symptoms of aging skin are
caused by exposure to the sun. Sun damage accumulates over time but, fortunately, it’s never too late
to start a sun protection regimen. “By carefully practicing sun protection year-round, you can
prevent further sun damage and may even reverse some of the damage already done,” says
Deborah S. Sarnoff, MD, a New York City dermatologist and educational spokesperson for
The Skin Cancer Foundation.
Do something good for your skin! Head to Spa Palazzo for our Natura Bissé Citrus-A-Peel
Facial. This antioxidant treatment relieves sun-damaged skin and helps fight the signs of
premature aging. High concentrations of Vitamin C instantly brighten, renew firmness and
vitality and even out texture and tone by stimulating the natural production of collagen. Your
skin will appear nourished and revitalized.
A leader in research and development, Natura
Bissé brings ground-breaking scientific
development to the field of skincare, with innovative ingredients
that provide visible and lasting results.

Are we as Adults Responsible
for our Obese Children?
As a physician who has practiced preventive medicine for the last
35 years, it is a question that I think needs to be answered and that
is, are we responsible for our obese children? As the Chief Medical
Officer of a major preventive medicine company, Cenegenics®,
it is a scientific fact that the incidence of diabetes, hypertension
(high blood pressure), morbid obesity, and cardiovascular disease
is occurring in young adults and teenagers.
from the E xpert
By Robert D. Willix, Jr. MD,
CEO/CMO Cenegenics Medical Institute
As CEO/CMO of Cenegenics® Medical
Institute Boca Raton, Dr. Willix specializes
in age management and preventive
medicine, offering a unique and powerful
approach to promoting better health
and extending a patient’s health span. As a cardiac surgeon, I never saw a case of coronary artery disease,
that is disease of the arteries to the heart, before the age of 30.
Recently, there have been cases reported of teenagers who have
suffered severe heart attacks because of plaque formation and
clots forming in diseased coronary arteries. It is estimated that 50%
of young adults are overweight in the United States, and diabetes is in epidemic proportions,
not just because of ethnicity but because of marked consumption of simple carbohydrates.
Morbid obesity, that is 100 pounds or more overweight, has also begun to sneak in to the
teenage population who are undergoing gastric bypasses and banding procedures to reduce
the devastation of excessive bodyweight.
As adults, remember that our children follow our patterns, so what we eat as adults is an
example of what they will eat. We therefore must change our eating habits and avoid, at all costs,
exposing our children to fast foods that are convenient but are creating a major health risk for
them as they enter early adulthood. Having plenty of fruits and vegetables in the house and
eliminating and avoiding keeping snacks that are unhealthy and soft drinks that contain large
quantities of sugar is critical to us understanding the impact that we are having on our children.
It reminds me of the fact that as I raised my five children, one of the things that is evident is that
I became a vegetarian and out of the five children three of them follow a vegetarian routine the
majority of the time. The other two of my five children are very in tune with healthy nutrition,
so I firmly believe that our example and our lifestyle is the way in which our children are affected.
So yes, I think we as adults are in some ways responsible for our obese children.
I think we can make a strong concerted effort, and we at Cenegenics would like to have
educational programs for teenagers and young children, but also for the parents to learn how
to influence their children in eating 2-3 fruits a day, plenty of green and multicolored vegetables,
how to not rely on salads as a meal, but using balance between protein and healthy
carbohydrates from high fiber vegetables as the mainstay of their nutritional program. Learning
where sugar is hidden and how to avoid eating processed foods is critical for the future of the
American lifestyle.
Please understand that as an adult and as a physician, I am interested in changing the way you
teach your children, and therefore we are committed here at the Boca Resort and Club
to educate those that are interested in a healthy lifestyle, especially when it comes
to nutritional balance and teaching our children healthy diets.
I hope you will take this as constructive and not destructive and not as blaming you
or feeling guilty, but somebody has got to change the way we watch
our children eat unhealthy and restrict their nutritional choices
to only healthy choices.

Real estate experts and One Thousand Ocean
residents recognize advantages
of southeastern shoreline views
Only two opportunities remain to own a new residence at the iconic, 53-unit One Thousand Ocean. The remaining residences
include selections with premium views and one-of-a-kind floor plans. One of the available residences is positioned on the uppermost floors of the
building and offer incomparable southeastern exposures, which have long been desirable.
At One Thousand Ocean,
that is particularly true
because owners are
rewarded with not only
oceanfront views, but
exposures of the Boca Raton
Inlet and an expansive
stretch of shoreline as well.
Due to the building’s
location on the point of a
private peninsula and the
way the land is pulled back,
southward views are
unobstructed.
Southern exposures such
as this from One Thousand Ocean
enable residents to look down
the shoreline for miles.
“One Thousand Ocean
residents with southeastern
views can look down the coastline for miles during the day. At night,
unlike with direct east views over the ocean, they can see the lights
from other buildings rather than pure darkness,” said LXR Realty, LLC,
Broker Stephann Cotton, who heads up in-house sales at One
Thousand Ocean. “I’ve been involved with oceanfront projects since
the mid ‘70s. In some other projects, developers made the mistake
of selling the southeastern corners too early in the sell-out process.
In addition, because of the demand for southeastern views, in the past
I have helped redesign buildings to provide more southeastern views.
We like to sell them at the end of the selling cycle because of the prices
they command.”
Continuing, Cotton added, “Buyers also recognize that the breeze
comes from the southeast, and the sun rises in the southeast during
the winter months and sets in the southwest. Today the preference
for buyers is still for southeast corners, and typically the premium
is higher.”
“For the design of One Thousand Ocean, we retained local architectural
firm, Garcia Stromberg, whose principals knew the specific typography
of the area for years prior to being engaged. They designed the
building around its unique site in order to present the best views
possible. Many of those views are toward the southeast,” said Jamie
Telchin, president of development with LXR Luxury Resorts & Hotels.
“There is often the misconception that direct east views over the ocean
are the best. This is probably because oceanfront buildings along
Florida’s East Coast were initially either box-like or rectangular, with
views solely to the east,” explained architect Jorge Garcia of Garcia
Stromberg. “On this prized piece of property, however, we were able
36 / July 2013 / boca club life
to create a seven-story building
with a curved [nautilus-inspired]
shape that couldn’t exist
the same anywhere else.
Environmental forces on the
land and in the elements of
wind, water and sun gave the
building its form and volume.
We maximized views of the
ocean to the east, the Intracoastal
to the west, and the inlet and
shoreline to the south and
southeast, affording a variety
of panoramas.”
Senada Adzem with Douglas
Elliman Florida, who has been
successful in selling new residences as well as resales at One Thousand
Ocean, noted, “In the beginning, prospective buyers usually asked to see
units with direct east views. But, after visiting the building, they understood
the premium nature of the southeastern views. Many of my clients preferred
to look southward down the shoreline.”
Adzem also pointed out how interesting it is for One Thousand Ocean
residents to watch boat traffic going through the inlet.
Michele Kleier of Kleier Residential in New York City loves Boca Raton.
She and her family are among the stars of HGTV’s reality series, “Selling
New York,” (who featured One Thousand Ocean on two separate episodes).
“We’ve vacationed in Boca for years and still do. We enjoy the fine and casual
dining, the great shopping and recreational opportunities. But, most of all,”
she said, “we love the beach.”
As a real estate expert, Kleier recognizes the importance of great views,
whether they are in Manhattan or in Boca. “The southeastern views from
One Thousand Ocean, over the inlet and shoreline, are truly remarkable,”
she pointed out.
“We have always maintained a tight control on inventory and have released
our residences so as to maintain a mix of sizes with varying price points.
Because of this, we were able to save some of the best residences for last.”
Telchin said.
Both of the remaining residences are move-in ready and one is a penthouse.
Prices are from approximately $6.4 and $2.9M, respectively, with an
additional optional furnishings package.

Member Services Message
Dear Premier Member,
Summer is an absolute blast at the Club. With the Surf School, our highly acclaimed
Junior Tennis Camps, and the always popular Lobster Bash, we are having a totally awesome time. Our
Resident DJ makes his first appearance over the 4th of July weekend and will be playing at the Beach Club
pool decks, Palm Court, Monkey Bar and Happy Hours so please stop by the DJ booth and introduce
yourself. Taking the party with us, last month we hosted a flotilla for our boating members with a cruise
down to South Beach for two nights of fun and sun and nightlife in Florida’s city that never sleeps. If you
missed this trip, please join us for our next regatta as we head to the Bahamas this month.
One of our own is dancing the summer away preparing for his moment as a fundraising contestant for the Boca Raton Ballroom
Battle on August 16. Premier Member Chris Palermo, one of the Club’s Advisory Board of Governors is one of eight community
leaders spending 100 plus hours training in hopes of raising $20,000 for the George Snow Scholarship Fund. The event is one of the
most popular charity events all year and is a spinoff of the show “Dancing with the Stars”. To find out how you can contribute,
please go to the website at www.scholarship.org. We will be watching those spins and dips – good luck Chris!
For a relaxing and stress-free Staycation, the Resort is a great place. It’s also ideal for that small group getaway. Make that important
business meeting easy and stay right here at the Club. Or plan that fun slumber party or family reunion in hometown luxury.
Whatever it is, we can take care of it all. To inquire about accommodations and to get the benefit of your member discount, just call
Katie Jordan in our Small Group Sales Department at (561) 447-3554.
As always this time of year, the Club’s leadership team is working hard to prepare for the upcoming club season which officially
starts in October. We are planning great new enhancements that will add value to your membership and are excited to share it all
with you as part of the annual membership renewal. This will be sent out soon and we want to make sure everything gets to you via
e-blast and regular mail. If you have changed your contact information, please call us in Member Services so we can make sure it is
reflected in your record.
Finally, words that have become our promise to you. MEMORABLE, EASY and PERSONAL --- this is how we want your
experience at the Club to be. Please contact me if I can be of assistance at [email protected]. As always, we thank you for
your support of the Club and look forward to seeing you soon. Have a fun and fabulous July!
