I really love this time of the year. April can be
showery but it has a good share of warm sunshine,
and there are so many lovely spring flowers in the
garden.
It is so good as the day’s start to draw out & we can
enjoy longer days outside.
May is such a wonderful month of blossoms,
cuckoos ,warm sunny days and gardens bursting with
colour.
Congratulations to Deborah Saunderson for winning
the Mothering Sunday - ESTĒE LAUDER
Competition. It was a wonderful poem about your
mother and we hope you both enjoy your make over
on the ESTĒE LAUDER counter.
Also congratulations to Katie & Aaron Trevor for
winning the spot the difference competition, and we
hope you enjoy your visit to the Fun Farm.
I hope you all have a very Happy Easter and what a
wonderful time it is for all of us chocolate lovers to
over indulge a little!
Thank you to all my advertisers.

The Miracle of Water
With Christmas long gone & failed New Year resolutions, we might be sticking to
our new exercise regime but those last few pounds still aren’t shifting! Well, the
answer really is very simple and very cheap. You probably aren’t drinking enough
water! Now, I know you’ve heard it all before but most people don’t drink enough
water & most people are also carrying around a few pounds more than they would be
if they did drink enough. If you can’t shift those last few pounds then try drowning
your sorrows in natures weight-loss mineral – Water! This is why it works:
Metabolism (of fat) is something that is done by your liver when it converts stored
fat into energy. If your kidneys are water deprived (most of ours are) then the liver
has to do the kidneys work, along with its own, this lowers our livers productivity.
This means that our livers can’t metabolise fat as quickly or efficiently as it could if
our kidneys were doing their job! So, by not drinking enough water you’re making
your liver work harder & setting yourself up to store fat!
Increasing your water intake is hard; we end up spending our day rushing to the loo!
This is because our bodies are flushing itself of water it has been storing for years.
Water that it has been storing around ankles, hips & even tummies. Persevere,
eventually your body will return to normal, as will the visits to the loo! Think of all
the other benefits too:
Water does wonders for your looks; it flushes out all the
impurities in your skin, leaving you with a clear glowing
complexion. It makes your skin look younger! Skin that
becomes saggy due to ageing or weight loss, plumps up when
the skin cells are re-hydrated. It helps improve muscle tone; muscles that have all the
water they need contract more easily, making your workout more effective!
Try & drink water throughout the day, don’t let yourself get thirsty. If you feel
thirsty, you are already dehydrated. Try putting a slice of lemon or lime in your
water; try hot water instead of that cup of tea or coffee. If you really can’t bear
water, try flavoured water but read the label! When you drink all the water your body
needs you will notice a decrease in appetite. Take your water bottle along to your
next Pilates class & sip it throughout the hour. Water is a MUST!

Abseil
Grimsby Dock Tower
Abseil from here
Massive 275’ Dangle
for Marie Curie Cancer Care on
Sunday 14 May
Lincolnshire’s highest abseil
Are you prepared to ‘Go over the Top’ of the Grimsby Dock Tower for the
local Marie Curie Nurses? The amazing Dock Tower stands over 300 feet high
and you abseil from a height of 275 feet. One million bricks were used to
build the tower and it was originally erected to operate the lock gates, but later
modernised to provide a low pressure water supply to the whole of Grimsby’s
extensive fish market. The height of this building makes it the most
exhilarating Abseil in Lincolnshire! Places are limited and there is an entry
fee of £10.00 per person and we ask each participant to raise at least £75.00 in
sponsorship. The minimum age is 18 and you need to be fit and healthy!
There will be a prize for the most sponsorship raised and everyone taking part
will receive a certificate after completing their Abseil.
Judy Glossop, Community Fundraising Manager for Lincolnshire, says “The
Dock Tower is a just an incredible venue and is the highest Abseil which Marie
Curie runs. It gives all participants a truly thrilling challenge, while at the
same time supporting the Lincolnshire Marie Curie Nurses, who provide a
10
vital, but completely free of charge, nursing service for terminally ill people
giving them the choice of dying at home supported by their families. Why not
do something a little different during 2006 and join our Abseil. Don’t delay;
call me today for an entry form and ‘Go over the Top’ for Marie Curie Cancer
Care.”
All the sponsorship money raised will be used to help support the Lincolnshire
Marie Curie Nurses, who provide practical nursing care to people with cancer
at home, day or night, with no cost to the patient or their families. Last year
Marie Curie Nurses in Lincolnshire provided 19,373 of home nursing care to
over 300 patients.

Now with summer hopefully just around the corner, it is a good time to
prepare our skin ready for the summer. When you read Philippa’s article on
The Miracle of Water on Page 8 it will reaffirm the tremendous benefits we
can gain from drinking water. With more of our bodies on show during the
summer we all want to feel as good as possible.
Now is the time to shed those extra pounds that we have hidden under our
winter clothes! Exfoliating the skin really gives it a lift and brings a glow
back to your skin. A great product to try is The Body Shop Coconut Body
Scrub. A very inexpensive way to exfoliate is to use a massage sponge and
some Sea Salt, it will leave your skin feeling beautifully smooth. You can
exfoliate whilst in the bath or shower. Afterwards use your favourite body
lotion and your skin will feel wonderful.
Self tans at this time of the year can give you a great feeling of wellbeing
and are so much healthier for us than sun beds. Like anything, with practise
your technique will become perfect and you will be able to perfect an
excellent tan which will be difficult to detect from the real thing!!
We know now how ageing and damaging the sun is to our skins so fake tans
really do offer us the healthy solution for looking sun kissed and healthy at
anytime of the year. Great ones to try are ST Tropez Self Tanning Lotion,
Clarins Self Tanning Milk and for excellent value Johnson’s Holiday Skin
Body Lotion. Always remember to exfoliate first and then follow with your
body lotion before applying the self tan. Allow 30mins after a bath before
applying the tanning lotion and use more body lotion on the knees, elbows
and ankles to prevent streaking. If you mix a
small amount of Clarins self tan with your
night cream and apply to your face you will
wake up with a lovely light tan in the
morning. Always apply sparingly as it is
better to reapply the next evening than have
to walk around with an over tanned face
which will look rather unnatural! Disposable
latex gloves are also great for applying your
tanning lotion and always remember to wash
your hands well on both sides after using
self tanning lotion. Happy Tanning!!

THE BEST OF
SOUTH AFRICA
Here we are into the April/May edition and Easter
knocking at our doors. We will continue through
South Africa with the A-Z and now we are at D and
that is where I am based Durban, the holiday city.
We have wonderful beaches and of course our
weather is excellent. Our winter months can be
spent on the beach. A reminder of our
website : www.itt.co.za and in fact we have
launched a new website. Please have a look and you
will see what we do. We do handle the Middle East
and Mediterranean for South Africans and of course Lesley Van Huyssteen
our Inbound department that handles the
passengers to South Africa. I think you will agree that the Gonerby Gazette
is worth a read.
Well done Louise and James, keep up the good work
D - stands for Durban (where I live and work) with its French Riviera-style
beachfront. Except on the Riviera you won't find Zulu-clad rickshaw
drivers wanting to take you for a ride, you also won't be able to buy the
most intricately beaded items sold by Zulu women for a pittance. The
Water world and Aquarium are essential must-sees, as is the Indian Market
renowned for its spices.
The beachfront hotels are many and varied
and you can find accommodation ranging from five-star to budget.
The beaches at Durban are friendly throughout the year which is why
people from Johannesburg/Gauteng flee to Durban in the winter months.
We have terrific curry restaurants which make Durban Sac's "hot"
gastronomic spot.
We also have many choices of eating places from Italian, Portuguese,
Chinese and Thai. There is nothing better than a steak restaurant, mouthwatering fillets/porterhouses and rump and the famous ribs!!
Just two hours from Durban you can
be in the famous Drakensberg
mountains, wonderful walking and
great trout fishing. We also have
Health Spas to spend time pampering
yourself. With the wonderful climate
golf clubs are all over and the
best! North of Durban you have
game reserves to choose from and
the famous Zulu villages and
Shakaland to stay over.
20
E - stands for East London which has
never had good press and I'm not sure
why for it's one of South African's
more enticing destinations.
A great holiday city, it's unpretentious,
laid-back,, unspoilt, the prices are good
and there's much to tempt the intrepid
vacationer. The beaches are good, in
fact they are great. The city, spread
out along the Buffalo River, enjoys
gentle weather a lot of the time.
East London is a good stepping off
point for the Transkei and the Wild
Coast and it's also surrounded by interesting settler towns such as
Bathurst, and a little further away, Hogsback.
F - stands for Ficksburg in the Eastern Highlands bordering the Lesotho
Mountains. Now here's an interesting statistic. Did you know that 90
percent of South Africa's cherries are grown in the areas surrounding
Ficksburg and it's home to a Cherry Festival each November?
Cherry lovers should definitely not miss this occasion and from midSeptember, when the cherry trees are in bloom it is a sight to behold.
Well known for hikers as it has some of the best hiking and biking trails in
the country in the surrounding hills and mountains.
There are several game farms and nature reserves. Just over the hills is
Lesotho. Prince Harry visited the country of Lesotho.
G - stands for Giants Castle and Gansbaai and I felt they both had to be
mentioned as each is a unique representative of the best of South Africa.
The Giants Castle game reserve in the Drakensberg is breath catching.
Amazing walks as I mentioned.
The reserve is surrounded by mountains and filled with eland ( a protected
antelope) and is now home to many other buck.
The birdlife is prolific and you'll definitely sight some of the larger
raptors. Twitchers love this particular reserve.
In all ways, Giants Castle deserves a visit.
There are several hutted camps in which you can rest your weary legs for
the night. if you visit Gansbaai - it's situated on the other side of
Hermanus—you'll catch sight of whales by the dozen.
If the season is right with the whales you will probably catch sight of the
large numbers of great white shark patrolling the area for delicious
morsels discarded by the numerous fishing vessels using the port. Shark
diving expeditions take place with licensed operators.
The town is not terribly attractive, but it is a genuine South African fishing
village and you will see great marine life.

was not unusual! We’re not
your standard company, and
we don’t work the standard ways, I have to admit! Yes,
we are experts in embroidery and garment branding. We
have always been very good at working with our clients
to identify what they need and helping them to realise
their designs in a way that productively promotes their
business or team. But we have always been different.
When we started out it was just a hobby. We wanted
something to do whilst our kids were at playgroup the
next thing we knew we were in premises, and had a
‘word-of-mouth’ reputation that was running ahead of
us!! But, the problem was we had no real structure in
place, and this is where the chaos came from.
All of us have worked very hard to put in place
organisation and procedures, whilst still prioritising our
relaxed, informal approach. We love what we do, we
love working with our clients building up relationships,
and we love the end result as every order brings in more
with the best advert in the world – ‘word of mouth’.
None of us are business women, and we still work around
the kids and a Labrador puppy, but the chaos is no longer
the first thing people see – hence the new name ‘Kaotic
Design’. We wanted a name that raised a smile,
(especially with our clients that have been with us from
day one), a name that reflected where we came from –
not where we are going.

Easter Cake
Serves 6
Ingredients:
175g (6 oz) butter
100g (4 oz) caster sugar
2 eggs (beaten)
75g (3 oz) self-raising flour
25g (1 oz) cocoa powder
175g (6 oz) icing sugar
45ml (3 level tbsp) chocolate spread
75g (3 oz) bought marzipan, red & green colouring and jam to decorate
Method:
1. Butter and line the base of two 18-cm (7 inch) sandwich tins.
2. Whisk 100g (4 oz) of butter and caster sugar together in a bowl until
pale and fluffy. Add the eggs a little at a time, beating well after each
addition. Fold in the sifted flour and cocoa. Divide the mixture
between the tins & level the mixture with a knife.
3. Bake in the oven at 190°C (375°F) mark 5 for about 20 minutes, until
well risen and firm to touch; cool on a wire rack.
4. Whisk the remaining butter, add the icing sugar gradually & beat until
smooth. Add the chocolate spread and beat well. Use to fill and top the
cake.
5. To make the chicks, use two-thirds of the marzipan to make two large
& two small balls. Press the
heads to the bodies. Colour
half the remaining marzipan
and roll out thinly. Cut
diamonds for the beaks and
small wavy strips for the
cocks’ combs. Stick on with
the jam. Use currants for
eyes. Make coloured easter
eggs with any remaining
marzipan. Place the
decorations on the cake.

Gardening Editorial
As spring approaches, with the longer daylight hours and hopefully
the promise of warm weather around the corner, many of us start
looking out at our gardens planning how, and when the gardening
onslaught is going to happen. After all, there is so much to do from preparation of the vegetable patch, pruning the unruly ( and
often prickly) shrubs, clearing the general debris of half rotten
leaves, twigs and dried stems that have accumulated over the past
few months and of course, the digging.
Speaking as a physiotherapist I also look forward to spring - after
all it is such a pleasure meeting all these gardeners having their
back’s treated at my clinic. The back tends to be a vulnerable spot
for gardeners as we are demanding maximum use from muscles that
have been in hibernation over the winter and we often stick for too
long at any one particular job - you know how it is - it’ll only take
another five minutes to finish the pruning - but then you start on the
next bush.
So what is the answer to try and avoid the luxurious comfort of my
treatment couches? My father, a physiotherapist before me, used to
advise patients that ‘gardening was the most dangerous occupation
known to man - so leave it to the women‘. However 50% of the
population may take exception to this advice so a more appropriate
suggestion would be to simply vary your gardening both in terms
of type of job and length spent on it. Also, as most gardening jobs
require bending over, every so often make the time to put your
hands in to the small of your back and arch backwards. And while
you are doing that take time to admire what you have already
achieved. To quote Simon Drew, ‘May your gardening angel
watch over you’.
