Mine Service Tires
BIAS CONSTRUCTION
Bead Cord
• High tensile strength steel wires
• Primary component for transition from rim to tire
• Maintains Tire/Rim fitment to resist slippage and provide full
torque performance
Nylon Cord Body
• Casing made with multiple plies of tough nylon cord
• Efficiently distributes deflection imposed by vehicle load
• Forms basic container for inflation pressure
Breaker Plies
• Provide impact resistance
• Distribute shock loads over entire body
• Transitional components from casing to tread
Undertread
• High adhesion compound forms a full-width base for the tread
• Improves recapability
• Guards against bruise breaks
Tread and Sidewall
• Long-wearing Abrasive-resistant (AR) tread compound
• Wide Zig-Zag lugs for both lateral and forward traction
• Thick sidewalls and shoulder areas provide added casing protection
• Specially formulated sidewall compound resists weathering,
cracking, and gouging
Tough Tires For A Tough Job
Mining represents one of the most severe operating environments for any tire. To meet
this challenge, Goodyear has designed a complete range of specially constructed tires to
provide optimum treadwear, traction, and cut resistance.
High Strength Casings
The body of a Goodyear bias mine tire is composed of a specially processed 3-T
nylon cord, which provides superior fatigue and bruise resistance. The Goodyear radial
mine tire incorporates steel cable for ultimate strength and cut resistance.
Tough Tread Compounds
Goodyear has developed a family of abrasion and ultra abrasion resistant
compounds, which greatly increase tread wear and resist cuts and snags.
Full Range Of Tread Designs
Since job conditions vary from mine to mine, Goodyear offers a full range of tread
patterns — one is just right for your operation.
World Wide Sourcing
Goodyear produces mine tires in key plants around the world. Check your Goodyear
representative for availability in your specific location.

radial loader tire for use in the most
severe operating environments where
traction is not paramount.
Extra tread radial loader tire designed
for use in rock or load-and-carry mine
service. Tire is available in 04/08, 20/20
and 24/24 tread patterns.
• 250-level tread depth is the deepest
tread depth available, and provides
maximum wear and protection.
• Rugged tread design offers long wear
that is ideal for high torque applications,
and hard rock quarry and underground
mine service.
• The 250-level tread depth is the deepest
tread depth available, and provides
maximum wear and protection.
• High solid to void tread design provides
long wear and is ideal for high torque
applications, hard rock quarry and
underground mine service.
• 250-level tread depth is the deepest
tread depth available and provides
maximum wear.
• The smooth tread design eliminates
lug tearing, is long-wearing, and is
excellent for hard rock quarry and
underground mine service.
• 150-level tread depth provides long
wear and protection.
• Multiple tread configurations means
08/08 is suitable for severe rock service

RADIAL CONSTRUCTION
Bead Cord
Protective Reinforcements
• Rugged foundation for the tire
• Anchors tire firmly and airtight to rim, and provides desired stiffness just above
bead area
• Withstands radial forces resulting from inflation pressure
• Cushions and protects tough bead wires during manufacturing and after
mounting on rim
• Chafer protects bead area from wear due to tire deflection and
powerful torque forces exerted by rim
• Extraordinarily strong steel belts under tread area resist
punctures and bruises, and stabilize tread components for
improved wear and traction
Steel Cord Radial Body
• Unique curved lug and groove design provides maximum traction
• Radial design lower rolling resistance gives improved fuel mileage
• Steel belts increase tread stiffness for long running life
• Added rubber in shoulder area increases cut protection
• Specially formulated sidewall compounds resist weathering,
cracking, gouging
• Improved flotation from radial type construction, together with smoother ride for
less equipment damage, reduces operator fatigue
• Immensely strong wire cords run bead to bead, containing air pressure and
forming main body of the tire
• Deep steel body ply turnup on outside helps resist separation
and penetration
• Endures repeated flexing for better ride
• Continuously transmits powerful torque forces from bead to tread
• Reduces internal stress during operation for extended tire life
Transition Components from Bead and Sidewall
to Tread Area
• Provide graduated stiffness transition from rigid bead
components to highly flexible sidewall area
• Help absorb shear stresses in bead-sidewall area
• Shoulder wedges control shear stresses and provide cushion between
breaker ply edges and body ply within; minimum heat generation helps
minimize separations
RL-5K (08/08)
If you work in severe underfoot conditions, the
super extra tread 250-Level radial loader tire
is what you need. With the deepest tread
available for maximum wear in high torque
applications such as hard rock quarry
service and mine maintenance, the RL-5K
still maintains a smooth ride — made
possible by a solid centerline design.
