PART 6 Words to TOY LET from the people of Indonesia
People are suffering through poverty around the world. There are numbers of people
with no sins losing their lives every few seconds. People know it and say it, but it ain t
shit if you don t put things into action. We don t take our lives for granted.
FUCK the organizations that only care about their own image and run their shit for
business. Taking advantage of people suffering, for their own greed and profit.
We ain t the same as these hypocrites who take away hope and trust of true hearts.
Lives can be saved with one change of thought. WE believe that our projects, actions,
and all of our and your contributions will build up and make a change.
*TOY LET has been collecting funds at GIGs, donating a percentage of their sales,
and collecting plastic bottle caps. (In Japan, there is a charity system of recycling
plastic bottle caps and all funds raised by this will be spent on vaccines for children
suffering around the world.) With cooperations by our greatest fans, friends, and
family we were able to donate approximately a total of 70 kilograms (approx. 154 lbs.)
of plastic bottle caps to RE LIFSTYLE NPO association. We appreciate every single
person who have made the greatest contributions and given us the support.
Feelings towards this Indonesia Tour:
We (TOY LET) have been hosting nearly 20 gigs so far, under the name of
REDUCE POVERTY! KEEP TOYLETs CLEAN! . Everytime we host this event, we charge
an extra 100yen to the ticket for chatiry purposes. Ever since I ve started this project
three years ago, I have always been wondering where to donate the funds we have
raised (from the extra 100yen charge). I got in touch with a several different NGO
(Non-Governmental Organization) groups and sent proposals and made negotiations
to cooperate together to make a bigger project happen. However, all these NGO
groups have given me replies such as Recently there are many people who use our
name and put the funds raised into their own pockets. You guys have a skull image
T-shirt... How do you think the children will feel if they recieve funds raised by skull
T-shirts? We will recieve the funds but, we have no time to have a talk with you .
Obviously this is BULLSHIT. They just did not want to be involved with a hardcore band
like us since they have a stereotype that hardcore=violence etc. I have learned that
many of these bullshit NGO groups just care about their own image and how good
they look, and not about the people who need the support. Their priority is their
image and not about the people. Maybe I just had bad luck choosing the right NGO
group? Honestly, it was like walking in the dark with no hope. The emotional damage
was big. I wonder how many times I have thought about giving up... These hypocrites
have taken away hope and trust of people who want to become a part of the help.
What a contradiction? Well afterall, this experience has given me the confidence to not
rely on such hyopcrites. I have remembered the gifted environment and the great
people who are supporting us everytime. I can`t stop now. I have pleged to myself to
make it happen.
On this Indonesia Tour we were able to use all funds raised so far, under the name
of TOY LET Supporting Developing Nations Project Vol.1. We were able to
donate toilets to two villages. Check out the second half of this zine for further results.
Leighton (TOY LET Bass./Voc.) answers the questions about the project; given by fans and friends.
As a band you have been rejected from many NGOs, and as a result you have managed to make this
project happen as DIwE (Do It with Everyone). To whom do you want to share this result?
There are things WE can do.
First of all, I want to share and show this proof to everyone that there are things we can do as a person
although as a small group at grass roots level. To be honest, it ain`t easy, to do something for someone.
There must be people who talk behind my back, and questioning whether if we are really going to the
raised funds for good. I wouldn`t be surprised if people have such doubts. I don`t blame em. So that is
why I really actually wanted to show and prove that we have actually made results out of it. I hope to
spread this to only to the band scene but to all friends, family, and many different people. That is why I
wanted to make a something that I can distribute to people (TOY LET PAPER; this zine has been printed
on hardcopy and distributed in Japanese). Also one of my point here is that I have included pages with
offshots of us. This is to show that we as a musician/ an artist are same human beings and not wierdos
that some might have the image of lol In the near future I hope to spread this result to some sources of
the media too.
What is hardcore to you?
Not only sound and appearance; we have convictions.
Punk/Hardcore is a genre which has many different views. One of them is the true heart to hope and
take action for world peace with strong convictions. Having that in mind, this is the best genre to
express my feelings.Lots of people have negative images such as loud music scary people and
nothing further (especially in Japan). I want people in public to take those negative images back and to
know the reality, inside, and truth of punk/hardcore. I want people to know that we have strong beliefs
towards our lives and ain`t like the bastards showing off, trying to look good. (Just like those A+ students
wearing a mask just showing good in front of their teachers. You probably get the picture of what I
mean.) Well, there is no right or exact definition of punk/hardcore.
At least, what I know is that this is my definition of punk/hardcore inside of me.
TOY LET has changed many peoples thoughts and interests regarding poverty issues, and have shown
that there are things people can actually do and cooperate at personal levels. Probably it was easy for
people to get into since the start was collecting plastic bottle caps?
Don`t throw em away! Plastic bottle caps can save lives. (In the case of Japan)
Firstly, plastic bottle caps become garbage after you are done with your drink. If you are gonna throw
em away, why not give them to us! There is nothing to lose! Maybe that was a big point.
Regarding this project, we are not the one taking full action, we are also a contributor. Recently lots of
fans and friends have been giving us bottle caps, which I am so proud and thankful of. If it weren`t for
all of you, this wouldn`t have been in shape. It produces contradictions, and other issues to actually
recieve funds or donations from people. I also don`t intend to force people to contribute. We will only
rely on people who have the interest and understandings. I am against forcing or persuading people.
This is why I have been doing the extra 100 yen charge system at the event we host.
(We charge an extra 100yen to the ticket in which we use for charity purposes)
The extra 100yen charge system at the event hosted by TOY LET is a great idea. It is written on flyers,
websites etc. in advance so people know what`s going on and further more people can come to the
show and automatically be part of the contribution.
We are against forcing people!
As I said we don`t intend to force or persuade people to contribute to our activities. However, we do
need funds and donations to actually make things happen and continute to take action. When we host
our gig REDUCE POVERTY! KEEP TOYLETs CLEAN! , we always announce on our flyers and websites that
a 100 yen from the ticket cost will be donated to our supporting the developing nations project.
That is why people know in advance and if they feel they don`t wanna be a part of the contribution, but
at shows we host, this is our system. If you wanna come, you will be a part of the contribution and if you
don`t want to, you don`t have to come. It`s as simple as it is. In the beginning we were giving out merch
which is worth a 100yen at the door so that people don`t feel ripped off or anything, but honestly this
100yen is a loss for us... since it is not that we are recieving the 100 yen donation. When we get losses, it
will be difficult for us to regularly host this event, (recently our fans have been giving us their
understandings which means so much to us.) and it ain`t shit if you don`t continue to take action.
(Continuation)
Some (supporting groups etc.) tend to take action and contribute just once and not again. It seems
to me like they are just trying to look good. (Like those good people who take part in charity
projects once, and brag about it or take advantage of it to go to a good college/university or to get
a good job) It ain`t shit unless you continue to take action, and you won`t imagine how hard and
painful at times it is to actually keep doing it.
Don`t limit your attentions to only issues reported by the media.
It is too late when something happens. Currenly there are thousands, or perhaps millions of people
suffering through poverty; from the levels of not having the things needed (ex. Including the toilet
issue that we have worked on) and down to not even having food or water to drink. There are
people losing their lives every few seconds; at this second too.I want people to understand that
there are ALWAYS issues, and people facing crisis of all kinds of problems around the world.
Don`t limit your knowledge to only newspaper, TV, radio etc. The media only reports big issues or
only when many lives have been lost. 1 person, or 10000 people, it doesnt matter. One life means a
lot to many people. The importance is not to save many lives, but to save even one life.
It ain`t the numbers of lives., but to actually save somebody.
There many issues besides the issue of povery, but what`s your opinion
about this?
Don`t always jump on the bandwagon (take the trend of public opinion).
It is true that there are issues besides poverty and I am fully aware of it. However my point is, to not
take the trend or perhaps what is in fashion of public opinion. When the media drags attention to
one issue, and supports concentrates on one issue, people tend to forget the other issues that are
also currently going on. At the minimum, we have to remember that our focus is on poverty
(TOY LET support of developing nations project). You just have to start with what you can do
and remember that issues we are facing are still present tense and not past or history. Support of
each issues must be divided into different groups.
I wish there were a thousand me s. Then I would be able to face a thousand different issues.
I`m sure that this project was able to make happen because of all your
contributors, please give us a word to the people reading this zine.
We are ineffective alone, let us unite into one.
First of all, I`d like to thank everyone for reading such a long interview. I can`t express how much
appreciation I have you, reading this. I have stated many from one side to another here, but let me
just say my last words. Including this toilet project, if it weren`t for all our fans and friends, this
wouldn`t have been into shape. It doesn`t matter how much you contribution you have made.
Everyone that gave us the support, understanding, came to our gig that we hosted, etc. From the
bottom of my heart, THANK YOU SO MUCH. I also want everyone to be proud of themselves for
being a part of the contribution, and for actually being a part of our toilet project.
And big thank you s in advance for people who will contribute to us and encounter in the near
future. I will continue to face the countless issues of poverty as long as I continue to believe in
myself, and everyone; and I know I will. Once again thank you all.
We have our steadfast convictions and beliefs.
Anyone with arguments, questions, opinion, etc. you are more than welcome.
Why not talk to me if you plan to talk behind my back. I will always welcome
anything, as long as it ain`t some bullshit that will waste my time. lol
I will continue to follow my beliefs as long as all my greatest friends keep
supporting me and at least till I lose all supporters.
Who knows, maybe I might be wrong, but I believe that our actions are not
a waste and at the minimum better than not doing anything.
TOY LET Presents: Support For Developing Nations Project Vol.1 「Toilet Project」
We were able to build a total of 3 toilets in 2 villages located far
into the mountains in Yogjakarta. The first village we went to
(Sendang Mole) was totally inside a forest. Lots of trees, with a
desolated swimming pool (pic 1). And a old toilet with the
minimun privacy. (pic 3,4) When we went to see the water place.
We saw people taking a shower... We were shocked to see that
they had no privacy regarding bathing... and of course there are
no roofs to the shower room. The side walls were only up to my
waist (about 120cm high/pic.2). The head man of this village was
not here when we visited, so the vice head man welcomed us
and showed us around (pic. 5 second to left).
The materials/resources (cements, blocks) had been arrived, the
construction was about to begin the next day we visited (pic. 6).
According to the vice head man of this village, people from
4 different villages share the toilet(pic 3). The furthest people
walk about 2kilometers just to use the toilet... shocking...
Think about it for a second...?
Question asked to TOY LET fom the Chief.
Q1. Why did you choose this village?
Q2. Why did you think of supporting us from
all the way from Japan?
Qu.3 Who is the original propser of this project?
Honestly, this was the first time for me to come to Indonesia, and I had no
knowledge regarding villages like Nglegi. However, my friend Aki has
connected us to make this project happen. Further more, Reno has
researched the situation of villages in Yogjakarta; which is their home town.
Due to their efforts, we have managed to end up here. According to your
(cheif) story, there seems to be many other villages around here that are
having the same toilet issues. We would like to use this experience and
iniciative to make the Toilet Project Vol.2 happen.
Japan is a relatively wealthy country. It wouldn`t be an exageration to say
that the Water sources, toilets, and everything we need for living are
perfectly supplied. And I don`t take all this for granted. I always have in
mind that although we have no trouble or problems living our daily lives,
The chiefs of Nglegi welcomed us with tea, fresh coconut juice, and fresh non boiled nuts (Delicious!) . there are people all over the world who don`t have the minimum needs;
I have told the chiefs we want to spead this experience and photos to everyone in Japan. Then one of like Nglegi. That is why we are here to take action and help out others as a

supporters of us for giving us this opportunity and experience.
The chiefs from Nglegi warmly welcomed us.
Situation in Nglegi:
The population of this village is about 3000 people. 45 families (250 300 people) are
currently sharing one toilet. They have a financial difficulty in building more toilets, since
most people living here are farmers with the minimum amount of payment. It is hard to
collect funds to build a new toilet. It seems like the Indonesian government has been
sending out funds to such villages. However, these funds do not reach to villages like Nglegi.
The start of this was when we visited the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum.
We were on tour in Hiroshima and took a day off to visit this musem.
The shock that we have got was immeasurable... When we were driving back
to Kobe, we have discussed with eachother about how blessed we are.
The environment, and even being able to live today. We realzied that we
really shouldn`t be taking all this for granted. We didn`t wanna end our
feelings with just words. We thought What are things WE can do for others? .
Why are toilets necessary?
The result of that has linked to us and our actions we are taking today.
Simply because it is a very influencial item. Adults who can go back and forth to other
Words can be said easily. I want to help others etc. but it is pointless unless
villages know the toilet manners but children can not learn or know the toilet manners.
you really take things into action. This is the first result of our movement.
That is why these children dig holes or spill their wastes anywhere. This is not good
regarding both hygiene and education. Although we want to teach children the basic toilet Carrying hope of all people on our backs and living our lives daily lives with
manners. We do not have actual toilets to teach them. In Indonesia, Muslims make up more gratitude, we as a band would like to produce more results to save eachother.
than 80% of the population. A toilet in the mosque is highly influencial.
-Text, words of TOY LET by: Leighton (Words by the chief: Interpreted by Aki)
Chief: I have lived for 65 years but never thought I would be able to meet Japanese people.
And I have never even imagined that our wishes would be made come true by a such young
Japanese group. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for donating a clean and brand
new toilet to our mosque. The influences we will get from this is immeasurable. I think this
encounter and opportunity is what Allah (For non-muslims=God) has given us. Although we
live in a country far away from eachother, we are here together today and sharing the same
moments. No matter how far we are, we are always connected under the same sky, just like
brothers and sisters. Thank you very much.

Arrived at Jakarta airport. We stayed one night at Jakarta and then, we were told that it
is a 18 hour drive to our next city Malang. This was hell....lol
Driving though the mountains, forests, near the
ocean, as a result.... it took us 22 hours. The worst
news is.... when we got to the venue, the show
was over! Damn... tough shit huh?lol
KOHTA (left pic.) was upset enough he couldn`t
help playing his guitar on the streets.
Sept. 22nd/2011 in PUWOKERTO Kongknow Cafe
Since we missed our first show, this day was our first show.
It was a venue that was somewhat close to the ones in Japan.
However the sound system was....
you know... lol Well that don`t matter to
us, we got our instruments, members,
what else do we need!?
More than 100 people, easily. We were up last. Here we go! KOBE
PRIDE! HARDCORE TIME! It was supposed to be... At our second song,
mics were off, and the main speakers too... wtf happend!? We didn`t give a fuck, but I
didn`t know what was going on. Oh well? hardcore time! Threw my bass away, jumped
into the audience shouting like mad!lol Looks like they had to shut off the main speakers
because the show was past scheduled time. YO THATS BULLSHIT!lol
Sept. 24th/2011 in BANDUNG
This show was up far into the mountains, inside
a tent. Sand dusts nailing our eyes and throat...
Lots of poles holding the tent, Indonesian punks
moshing and diving. Cool stuff! Towards the end
of our stage, was like a small riot. wooohooo!
FUCK YEA!lol This was too much fun. Threw my
bass away jumped into the crowd, in and out of
the tent. This environment was totally new to us
FUKIN` A! WE LOVE INODNESIA!!!! RESPECT
Sept. 26th/2011 in BEKASI
This day was also another outside show. At a small park?ish sandlot.
Population= 50% kindargarden kids and 50% PUNKS. Holy shit!lol
This was a culture shock for us.lol We couldn`t believe kids would
stay and listen to punk and hardcore at that age. lol
But we were really impressed and pleased to
have kids watching us until the end of our
stage. Respect to the kids of Bekasi!!
I was asked to write a tour report but... I will leave that to Leighton.
If you read the gig report of TOY LET, you will probably get the image of how much fun we had.
So here, I`d like to right my feelings that I want to share with you all.
Of all, Thank you .
I can`t express how much apprecition I have.
It all started with me and Wakitani (TOY LET gu.) talking about Indoensia.
We were just joking about wanting to go on a Indoensia tour, but making that become true.
Leighton; all I have is appreciation. Thank you so much.
There aren`t many people like Leighton who actually does what they spilled out of their mouths.
Due to the busy tour schedule, I didn`t have much
opportunity to sit down and have a talk with Leighton, but
managed to find a bit of time to talk to him.
Honestly, I was moved and shocked with how much thought
and effort this guy has been putting in TOY LET.
At the same time, he showed me lots of weakness.
Not only because of that, but whether if you have the power or not, please give them your support.
I`m sure the contribution will be big for them, but
will also widen your perspectives of the world.
just how it did to me.
I also told Leighton
All actions done must be continued.
And I know they are prepared for it.
I am moved to have such a great band as a friend.
I`d like to thank my members, TOY LET, and the greatest friends from Indonesia.
And last but not least, thanks to you; for reading my words.
Thank you

Maganed to meet up with the VAGINERS!!
The first few days we had no access to the

scheduled to meet us up in Indonesia.
However, we were still in a City far away
and there was no way we could go pick
them up...
Here is our super hero! Reno!!! (left)
He was kind enough to go pick them up.
Reno studies Japanese so he could speak
a bit of Jaoanese. Great guy!! He was the

With support by Reno, we
were able to meet up with

he could only stay 24 hours in Indonesia!?
Riding a train in Indonesia!
Although it`s a foreign country for me, I said to myself oh I could take a train easily .
However, the environment, and everything was unexpected... I was lost from first to
last. If Reno wasn`t with us, we probably wouldn`t have got to the right destination...
I shall call again to myself that everything is not so easy like Japan.
Next time I shall study the minimum words and understand the system in advance,
before I start goofing around. lol Indonesia is HxCx! -TOY LET Dr. TAKA
Luckily, we were able to meet up with Nago. He joined us in
the middle of the tour, so he had to come alone from Japan. HAIR CUT!

THE PYRATE PUNX:
The Pyrate Punx are totally independent D.I.Y promoters of punk gigs .
WE aRE Pyrate Punx crew with chapters also in the USA, England, Canada,
The Netherlands, Germany, Malaysia, Mexico and Indonesia.
Pyrate Punx Worldwide is a collective of bands, local promoters, D.I.Y
tour bookers, D.I.Y record labels and most importantly friends.
PLEASE no facist, racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic bullshit. we're
all about bringing people together in a safe autonomous zone- not tearing
others down based on socital isms and phobias.
The history in Bandung to open new chapter of Pyrate Punx because in the late of 2006, punks scene in Bandung
really big but no many diy show, most bands waiting for shows from event organizer and really compromise with
capitalist system, like using mainstream sponsorship like coca cola, cigarette company and other advertising
mainstream. So i'm with friends have discussion about situation punk scene in Bandung, so we starting collect bands
to making collective show, the bands collect cash for rent the venue and equipment (PA and Instrument).
On 2006 also have a band from Bath,UK they called Seven Crowns and ask for the show in Bandung. so we made
show for them, and after show, the singer Jon told me about pyrate punx and offer me to make a new chapter in
Bandung. So i had discuss with Marcus to open new chapters of pyrate punx in Bandung and his like it! So we starting
Bandung Pyrate Punx 1st show at music studio for rent, because here the bands still don't have own amps,PA,drum
set, we must rent the studio for more cheap to making show.and collect cash from the
who's play at that's shows. We rent the house for making show, also we did punk festival,

Words from: Aki; the main promoter of our Indonesia Tour. Our Indonesian Manager!
How was it to be in charge of this tour?
It was fukin` fun!! REALLY!!
There were unforgetable accidents etc. and we had to drive from west to
east of Java Island, of course it was a lot of work and made us tired, but this
was totally an unforgettable memoryinside of me.
I am also impressed to be able to be a part of not only shows but the
TOY LET Support for developing nations project . I really think you guys
did something great, and afterall being able to be a help of those villages
has given me the feeling of happiness too. TOY LET, I really appreciate you
guys for coming. Thank you!
What kind of a band is TOY LET from your view?
Well they are obviously different compared to other bands. lol Obviously
most bands have their own style of sound, and color of their bands, but I
think TOY LET is a band filled with dreams . Each member also has a
strong character lol I think its great!lol First of all you don`t see much bands
like TOY LET; a hardcore band working for the developing nations...lol
What kind of influences do you think TOY LET will give after this Indonesian tour?
I think TOY LET step up futher and futher to do even bigger projects. Well, I think
they have to. I hope that more and more people from public will also support them
and their project. They will surely, give a big influence to the hardcore scene.
Especially in Indonesia, they have proved and showed that
Hardcore can save people . Check out their message on their new T-shirt!hehe
TOY LET, Thank you so much for coming to Indonesia. Please come again!

THANK YOU ALL FOR READING THIS ZINE.
If you are reading this page, I guess... Well I hope that you have read all
pages from beginning to last. If you have, I hope you liked it.
It really means a lot to us and I can express how much of an appreciation
I have for you and everyone. If you liked it, please spread it to your friends.
However, please keep in mind this is just my/our side of opinion, and
I really don`t intend to force or brain wash everybody`s minds.
I just hope that this has made you think at least a bit about our band,
our activities, and poverty issues.
*Note: This zine has been issued and distributed on October 2011,
in Japan. Most of the thoughts and actions are based in Japan.
The purpose of making this English version is to further spread the
non reported issues and our beliefs to non-japanese speaking people.
Please excuse some of the grammatical structures. Some of these
mistakes or strange structures were made on purpose to translate
Aki and Lisa, who also
toured together with
us. They have given
us so much support
and kindness.
Thank you so much.
the original text (written in Japanese) straightly, and accurately to not
lose its original meanings. Oh well... I guess there might be some typos?
That don`t matter. This is not grammar school or nothing.lol
For further information about our band, please check out our websites.
Once again, thank you all for reading this zine.
