OHLY GMBH IN HAMBURG, GERMANY
Hamburg, Germany, produces yeast derivatives
mainly based on own fermented baker’s yeast
(not dependant on availability on side stream
products) but also other strains for wine or
pharmaceutical applications as well as some
starter cultures. The plant in Hamburg will
concentrate on producing specialty products in
the future.
The history of the plant goes back to 1836
when it was founded as ‘Heinrich Helbing Korn
Distillery’ producing yeast and spirits for the
local market.
In the mid 1930’s Götz Ohly was the first to
develop yeast extracts and he still lends his
name to our company and our branded range of
yeast extracts.

OHLY AMERICAS IN HUTCHINSON, USA
Hutchinson, Minnesota specialises in the
continuous fermentation of torula yeast for
the manufacture of torula yeast based
flavour ingredients.
The plant, once a local creamery, was
converted to a drying facility for the newly
constructed torula yeast fermentation plant
in 1974.
In 1992 the production of spray dried vinegar
powders commenced.

Boyceville, Wisconsin manufactures a
variety of torula (high nucleotide
content) and baker’s yeast extracts as
well as the specialty powder range of
products.
The location, once a local creamery,
began business in 1982 specialising in toll
spray drying and drum drying.
