From the General Manager
Barry McDonald
In addition to the activity around
Sawgrass Country Club that
every 4th of July brings we are
also preparing for several projects around the club set for the
remainder of the year.
First, we are preparing to begin
an upgrade of the Ladies Locker
Room at the Golf Club in addition to replacing the carpet
and dining furniture. This is a
much needed enhancement and
should help us bridge the gap
on major renovation work for
the Golf Club facility until a
more comprehensive approach
can be considered in the future
which is described in our Master
Facilities Plan.
We have contracted for the restroom replacements on the East
and South Courses which will be
built to the same specifications
as the restroom on the West
Course that opened in March.
This work will begin this month
and is scheduled to be ready in
late October.

We will also be completing a
project on the tennis courts this
year which will include laser
leveling all of our HarTru clay
courts and replacing the fencing,
gates and wind screens at the
tennis complex. We are looking forward to this improvement
which is planned to begin on July
7th and should be completed by
the end of August.
The East Course renovation
project is moving along very
nicely and we are currently on
schedule for our grassing dates. This week and next we are
completing the majority of the
greenside bunkers in addition to
infrastructure work on the irrigation system and drainage.
The exterior lighting at the
Beach club has all been converted
to amber colored turtle friendly
lighting. This will remain in
effect for the remainder of
the turtle season which ends
November 30th. Approximately
140 new lights are being installed
for the pavilion deck and south
walkway to the beach. We will
also be receiving new umbrellas
at the beach club and replaced
the cushions for the soft seating
areas around the Pavilion.
So far the smoking restrictions seem to be well received

I was driving a golf cart back from the
Beach Club after visiting with a few members on the Oasis Deck when it struck me
just how lucky we all are here at Sawgrass.
Everywhere you look there is something
really good happening. Here in the Golf
Shop, we were busy preparing for The
First Tee Outing Fund Raiser. The First
Tee support by the club membership has been phenomenal!
It was a great day for the game of golf as we had over 180
individuals including members, guests, children and their
parents participate in the day’s activities. The First Tee
organization touches over 750 participants here in North
Florida. In 2012, Sawgrass Country Club was the first private club in the United States to hold a fund raising event.
Since then, several clubs around the country have followed
our lead.
I personally want to thank this year’s Tournament
Committee consisting of Lisa Williamson, John and
Samantha Brantley, Joe Braunstein, Rob Kearney, Doug
Moody, and Bill Newton. They have helped Stefan Brunt
put together another fantastic event. What brought us close
to The First Tee are the “Nine Core Values” that are taught:
Courtesy, Judgment, Honesty, Integrity, Sportsmanship,
Perseverance, Responsibility, Confidence, and Respect. It’s
an outstanding set of principles that serve as a reminder
to all that is good. All of us on the Committee want to
thank Sawgrass Country Club, our members, and guests for
making it another special day to remember.

Week 9 August 4-8 Around the World Week
Pool Towel Concierge Service
9:00am-7:00pm, 7 days a week
Towel pick up and drop off are at the Surf Shack in the beach club
breezeway. There is a 2 towel per person maximum and the towels
must be signed out. Towels not returned by 7:00pm will result in
a $10 charge on the member account.
Week in Perspective: This week, your children will explore a
country a day! As we travel around the world, they will participate in that country's cultural activities! When in Rome, we do
what the Romans do! Kids will enjoy a cooking class, and finish
off the camp with a BIG beach final summer farewell party!
This will be a week they will never forget!

Fitness and Recreation
Soccer In The Sand!!!!
Every Saturday • 2:00-4:00pm • Complimentary • On the Beach
Bring your kids for a fun afternoon of healthy physical activity!
On Saturdays from 2:00-4:00pm throughout summer, we will
divide children up by age group and play beach soccer! Water and
other healthy snacks are provided! Parents, please note that you
MUST remain on premises, as this is not a child care service.
Open Water Fridays
Back by popular demand, we are continuing our beach workouts
and ocean swims every Friday throughout the summer. Challenge
yourself with Tim, Ruben, and our very own Sawgrass lifeguards
by doing ocean training swims and workouts on the beach from
9:15-10:15am. Meet down at the beach rental cabana if you are
looking for an out-of-the-box and adventurous workout that is
sure to put your body to the test.
Sawgrass Executive Surf Club (SESC)
The New Sawgrass Executive Surf Club is holding “board” meetings in the surf at our beach club. Surf club members must bring
their surfboard, Stand Up Paddle board (SUPs), and/or kayak
to attend this “board” meeting. In the event that the surf is flat,
we will still get a session in by surf paddling, kayaking, or stand
up paddle boarding. This club is an adult only club for men and
women. “Board” meetings will be held every Friday at 3:00pm, so
pack up your equipment and head down to the beach for a session! Please contact Ruben at 273-3748 with your information
to receive weekly surf updates. We’re looking for a few devoted
enthusiasts to form the core of the “SESC”. We will be planning
off-property surf and paddleboard excursions in the near future.
Surf & Stand Up Paddle Board Clinics
Apply your zinc oxide and throw on your baggies (surf term for
board shorts) because the water is perfect for our summer surf and
SUP clinics on Saturdays. Kids will learn how to surf from 1:002:00pm. Adult clinics are from 2:00-3:00pm. We have boards
available for anyone who does not have one. Meeting point is down
at the beach club rental cabana. Come hit the waves with Ruben
and Tim! During the Summer, we are offering an Adult Stand Up
Paddleboard Clinic from 10:15-11:00am on Fridays.
Sawgrass Surf Camp Attendees taking a break from the break
Ride Tribe News
The Sawgrass Ride Tribe group ride is held every Tuesday
moving forward. Departure is from the Fitness Center
and we hop on our saddles at 8:30am sharp. Routes are
determined by weather
and wind. Most rides
are in the Ponte Vedra,
Nocatee, and Jax Beach
area and are an hour
in length. If you have
inquiries, please call
Ruben at the Fitness
Center.
Beach Rentals
Come out and enjoy the sun!
Now that the beach season is in full swing arrive early to get
the gear you need for the day. Rentals include Stand Up Paddle
boards (SUPs), surfboards, beach chairs, and beach umbrellas.
