CSR is a corporate responsibility, due to counter the impact of the community’s
and environment policies and activities through a transparent and ethical
behavior; consistent in sustaining the development and community’s welfare;
obey the law; consistent to the international norms and integrated with the
organization’s process.
The CSR Concept of PT Indominco Mandiri (IMM) relates to the company value,
which is the 3P: Profit, People, and Planet. In this case, the Profit stands for the
value of a community empowerment, where the community has to accept the
positive effects (benefits) from the company’s activities. People is about where
the community gets their education and owned their own specialties to develop
SDA (natural resources) and the benefit value of the company’s CSR program.
Planet is about the earth environment, our place to stand, to live, so it must be
managed properly. These three aspects must be integrated in the CSR process so
the sustainable development could be achieved.
Since 2002, the Ministry of Environment has launched the Performance Rating in
Environmental Management (PROPER) as an instrument setup base by the UU law
No. 32 year 2009 about the environmental conservation & management. The CD/
CSR contribution in achieving the GREEN PROPER has become the main target
that needs to be achieved. One of the criteria in judging the GREEN PROPER is to
do the right and responsible social (CD/CSR) effort.
The measures that have been, are, and will be carried out are:
1. The CD policy in allocating their budget.
2. CD structure and responsibilities.
3. Yearly action plan, RENSTRA in every 5 years until the mine closure.
4. Evaluation and reports.
5. Implementing the programs from the CCC meeting.
We hope that by maximum synergy and collaboration, in implementing and
developing the CD-CSR, we will achieve the GREEN PROPER and also the
community’s independence.
Green Regards

Community Learning
Center (CLC)
T
he Community Education
process is a must for all the
citizens living in the city,
country, and even for those who
live in the coastal area, everyone
deserve a proper education as
written in the UUD (Law). The road
and process to education program
which become the pioneer of PT
Indominco Mandiri (IMM) has been
implemented in integrated phase
with the involvement from CSR IMM
partnering with PKBM Malahing as
an effort in changing the paradigm
of the community especially
those who live in the coastal and
country area, so they would have
better social, economy, and culture
condition beneficial with the
community development program.
As the foundation of community
development together with the
main locomotives; The Community
Educational Directorate, Non formal
and Informal Educational General,
The National Education Ministry
in supporting the program, has
managed to do revitalization and
increasing the institutional capacity
of the community education
program providers, especially
through the Community Learning
Center (CLC) institutional quality
improvement programs, also a
number of partnership development
program between IMM, private
sector, and the community.
PKBM is the community learning
activity; manage to empower the
community’s potential in developing
their social, economy, and culture.
The main purpose of PKBM is
to expand the community’s
opportunities, especially the
needed, in increasing their
knowledge, skill, and their mentality
needed to develop their innerself.
In an effort to make the same
perception and harmonizing the
PKBM, with PKBM basic idea as
the center activity of education
outside the school, PKBM grows and
develops based on the community’s
interests and capabilities, and so
the CLC needs to be developed
into a new form just like the ones
implemented in Thailand, Malaysia,
and Singapore.
But the main challenge in the
learning and teaching process
in non formal education is the
participant’s discipline in the
learning process. Because of that,
the management and tutor have
to have innovation in teaching the
participants.
Besides creating innovation, the
management and tutor also need to
spread the importance of education
in their life. One of the efforts to
prevent boring learning phase,
besides performing social activity
such as training and creativity, the
management also presents a study
of local wisdom.
In the implementation of this
local content learning process, IMM
is working together with PKBM
Malahing through a program called
COMDEV to perform a cooperative
agreement in giving the social
aspect a priority called the CSR. In
addition, there is a local life skill
training program implemented by
the IMM Mitra PKBM Malahing.
All of this is written in a book
about how a manager also a
member of PKBM could reflect their
creativity in utilizing mangrove
peeling for home industry products.
The planned learning
process and the one started
to be implemented is training
for journalist. This journalist
training will be introduced to the
community through a learning
program A, program B, and
program C about journalistic. IMM
Mitra PKBM Malahing made a wall
magazine at PKBM, called The
Wall Magazine of Mitra Malahing
Community Children (KAMI).
IMM is more focus on the
development of non formal
and informal education, so the
quality its graduates have the
same level as the formal school
graduates. For next steps, the
tutor and management have to be
more creative and innovative in
developing the process so it would
allure the participant’s interests and
skills.

PT Trubaindo Coal Mining
T
he West Kutai Regency
has just recently been
formed and very much
needed professionals, that is
why PT Trubaindo Coal Mining
(TCM) implemented a program
to enhance their human
resources through a Community
Development (CD) program
cooperating together with PT
United Tractor (UT). The program
have successfully creates their first
graduates in 2011, especially in
heavy equipment mechanic. All of
the participants are provided with
a rented house located in Jengan
Danum Village where they could
walk on foot to their training place,
UT office.
Every CDO who is incharge
and responsible in their own area
hoped to be able to socialized the
plan in the criteria of the training
participants, which are graduated
from highschool, physically and
mentally healthy, understands and
able to follow the rule of disciplines
made by the training company
also the company organizing the
training program.
The participants chosen in
each of the TCM fostered villages
are only 12 people. There are quite
a lot obstacles in the process of
participant’s selection, especially
the problem with maximum age
between 18-30 years old. While in
the fostered village there are lots of
higschool graduates unemployed
8
Heavy Equipment Training
Organized by PT Trubaindo Coal Mining
with PT United Tractor in West Kutai
over 30 years old. Because the younger
highschool graduates are mostly have
already worked in a company or doing
other business activity.
The MOU signing with the UT
shows that the activity has finished.
This was attended by the Education
Department as a part of West Kutai
Regency Governmental member. They
always monitored the activity from
the start to the finish. At first there are
12 participants, only 11 graduated, 1
person resigned because he could not
followed the rules and the discipline
of the training. Six of the graduates
got a job right away and distributed
to every UT sites where there are
mining activities. The UT wanted every
participant who made it in the training
could work in the company.
In the closing ceremony, Kancilius
represented Herlando as the Head
Department briefs the participants
related with the continuity training
plan and their future prospect after
graduating from this training, especially
in heavy equipment. Besides that, they
were also reminded to have strong
mentality in facing the problems
at work. The same thing also being
delivered by the leader board of UT.
There are some briefing and
Bubuhan - Edition 31th/VI/January - February 2013
hopes from the Education Department
represented by Juhariah related with
the participant’s member from outside
the TCM ring I, so they could reach out
to the Mahakam upstream, because
there are still many young people who
does not have the right kind of skill to
work in a company operating in their
surround village area.
This TCM and UT program has
proven that it is able to create reliable
workers for companies available; either
it’s the mining company, farms, wooden
industry using heavy equipment,
especially in mechanic forces. This
program also proved that in each of
TCM operational location there are
local forces who needs to be trained
so they could become a reliable and
trusted heavy equipment workers, so
the company would not have to deliver
any workers from outside the West Kutai
Regency.
Thanks to good cooperation and
well support by the government of West
Kutai Regency, we closed the show with
a group photo from all parties.
Final words, a good program if it
were really done honestly could mean
a lot also useful for every person who is
willing to try to develop themselves for
their better future.

Wise in Educating
the Children
by Hypnoparenting Technique
B
ONTANG-PT Kitadin (KTD)
has conducted a series
of health events started
in November to December 2012.
On December 13-16th 2012, KTD
conducted a Hypnoparenting
Seminar, “Wise in Educating the
Children by Hypnoparenting
Technique” as the theme.
The first day of the seminar
went well, attended by 300
participants from Bontang City
and 6 fostered villages from
Teluk Panda Sub-District. The
participants consist of pregnant
women from Bontang City,
parents (mother and father),
educational staff (PAUD, teachers),
health departments, and public
community. On the 2nd and 3rd
day; the hypnobirthing training,
pregnant women class, and
insertions using hypnotherapy
(without anesthesia).
The background of this activity
is based on what time demands
to the parents and educators
to improve their children’s and
student’s educational state, they
were faced with new problems
10
and questions, this facts will bring
difficulty towards the parents in
handling those problems.
Many scientific study
show that parent’s role is very
important in performing the
children’s quality and personality,
because the parents are the first
social group introduced to them
and through parents, children
would be able to gain many
experiences also the fulfillment of
their needs, which have become
the strong foundation for the
development of their personality.
The truth is being parents is
not an easy thing to do, because
there is no formal education
from school or colleges in how
to become a good parent. That
is why, problems and difficulty
could not be avoided in daily life,
such as the difficulty in giving
discipline, irresponsible child,
not independent child, conflicts
between parent and children, and
so on.
Based on the learning in
helping the parents which have
difficulty in facing their children,
Bubuhan - Edition 31th/VI/January - February 2013
it show that they need simple
and practical guidance on how to
communicate with their children,
and also they need to be creative
on implementing the technique.
Touched by the problems
above, we the CDO synergized by
the Bontang Utara II Health Clinic
(representing the government)
tried to search for a solution by
conducting Hypnoparenting
seminar.
Hypnoparenting is a parenting
technique works right through
the children’s subconscious.
Parents would be able to apply
this parenting technique including
discipline their children easily
without coercion.
Through the activity with the
parents and the teachers, it is hope
to be a wise solution in educating
the children.
To support this seminar
activity, CDO KTD invited a
psychologist and practitioners
of Hypnoparenting, with Fonda
Kuswansi, S. Psi as the facilitator
and trainer.

of local culture content. One of
them is by giving more facilities

Those two traditional dance

including Gantar which means art.

dance representing a unity. Gantar

The cultural art conservation
such as dances and singing are
not just the responsibility of the
local community as the direct heir
of the culture, but it has become
the responsibility of the company
as an organization located and
active in the area for quite some
time. Through the CD program, the
company has become one of the
promotional agents of local cultural
heritage.
Local arts can be one of the
“selling points” of an area if it can
be preserved. With the right kind of
mentoring and training also using
the appropriate promotional media,
surely the cultural heritage of Dayak,
either it is Gantar Dance, Belian

The road show gives basic knowledge about how to
extinguish a fire the simple way and using basic home
utilities; one of them is using a wet blanket. The road show
is very useful in helping the housewives to always be alert
and not panic when there is a light fire in the kitchen.

Getting to know unique
fruit from inland
The famous Butter
Durian in West Kutai
D
urian Butter is one of the unique durian of West
Kutai. The diameter is about 20-25 cm, its skin is
white brownish and greenish, longer and thicker
spines. Its seed is quiet large, the fruit taste delicious,
tasty, thick, and it has yellowish color. Durian only creates
one fruit each season in a year. The famous places to
get this durian would be: Dempar Village, Eheng Village,
Jontai Village, Bluuq Village, and Intu Lingau Village.
About 65 – 100 km from West Kutai Regency.
The children watching over the stand to sell durian
near the durian trees, full of spirit and not feeling
shameful at all, all they are thinking is that they could
help their parents once they’re home from school.
Meanwhile the parents are searching and gathering
durian as many as they can to ease up the gatherer as
soon as they come buying all of their durian, they would
take it all to Barong Tongkok, West Kutai Regency. This is
one of their efforts for their children’s school fees.
Try eating this butter durian, it is very tasty. You
can feel the sensation from your head to your toe. The
gatherers of this butter durian are often racing to find
their own customer. There are some who come to the
location and buy the entire stock for only Rp 10.000,- to
Rp 15.000,- each. There are also some who just wait
at Mencimai Village and just stopped any motorcycle
carrying butter durian. There are bargaining process if
the two parties agreed then the butter durian will all
be sold to the buyer without being checked. If it were
taken to Samarinda, the durian will have to go through a
selection process, because the Samarinda’s people knew
well the quality of Melak’s Butter Mentega. Commonly
they would sell it between Rp 50.000 to Rp 70.000 each.
The delicious taste of this local durian also spreads
through many activities. Some of them are in the CDO
Forum 2013, one of the best practive being visited is
Trubus, exposing about durian, from the seed, planting,
fertilization, until the durian selection according to
anyone’s taste, because from many variety of durian,
there is also Kalimantan durian and Thailand durian.
These makes the Bangkok CD team (Khun Visut Lamaram
and Khun Suthiroj Mongkolsinpong) amazed and say
that it is very outstanding. Also by the time there is a
visit to TCM and BEK, President Director of ITM, Khun
Pongsak Thongampai accompanied by AVP CC-CD, Tri
Harjono were being treated by durian Bentian by head
district of Bentian Besar and it tastes really amazing, it
turns out that it is tastier than Thailand durian. And so it
also happened when there is a visit to Besiq Village, after
dinner they were being treated by the “great” durian also.
But as for now, the government has not made the Butter
Durian their superior product. This is an opportunity
for a program idea as an evidence of environmental
preservation and economical impact.
