Bandung has variety traditional food. One of the most and delicious food is nasi timbel. Nasi timbel is a cooked hot steamed rice in banana leaves. It is made in ways similar to making lontong. It is compressed, rolled, and wrapped. In banana leaves, it then evolves into a complete dish served with various side dishes such as fried chicken, duck or pigeon, meat, fried salty fish, tamarind vegetable soup, fried tofu, fried soy bean cake, sambal and assorted fresh raw vegetable.

Historically, nasi timbel is a traditional food considered as the “ lunch box” menu the farmers’ wives prepared for their husbands before they go to the rice fields to work. The steamed rice were wrapped in banana leaf so that on the lunch time, it is still fresh, pluffy and delightful. They could add any condiments to the nasi timbel, but they will never forget the hot chili sauce called sambal and the fresh raw vegetables, lalapan. It is a must. Nowadays, nasi timbel is served for celebration or ritual meals called selamatan. It is also served in many restaurants in Bandung as one of their main and special menu with the average price between Rp 15.000 – Rp 35.000 per
portion.
Beside nasi timbel, Bandung is also famous with its traditional snack called tahu gejrot. It is slightly fermented fried tofu snack with slices of shallots, chilli, and garlic in spicy-sweet sauce. This snack is easily to find everywhere in Bandung, especially at street food vendor with a very cheap price. It is about Rp 500- Rp1000 each. In addition to that , Bandung also has a special traditional drink called cendol. It is a traditional cold drink made from coconut sugar, coconut milk, and green glutinous rice jelly which is usually served as a dessert. The price of one portion of cendol is cheap. It is just about Rp 5000- Rp10.000. Therefore, it is really recommended to be tasted.
