Vivat Jesus brother Knights!
As we close the year of Matthew and begin the new liturgical year, this time gives us a reason to pause,
perhaps slow down, and to reflect on what the coming of the King can mean to each of us and to our families.
These are difficult times for many of our brothers and sisters. Uncertainty about the future, the challenge of
the present and for some, the burden of the past can hang like a heavy cloud over our heads in a time that
should be one of joy and hope and anticipation.
Perhaps one of the greatest gifts we can give to our brothers is to help them to realize the gifts that they
receive through the grace of God in the Sacrament of the Eucharist. Many times we are far more focused on
what is happening around us rather than on what is happening within us. This can be evident in the way we
decry the commercialism at Christmas, for example, without examining our own thoughts and prayers at this
time of year. We can also find ourselves so focused on the state of our world that we forget to take the time to
recognise the needs within our own community, perhaps even of our brother Knight.
There is a video making the rounds in which a woman with a perfectly cheery Christmas voice, backed by a
children's choir, encourages Christians NOT to shop in stores where the message of Christmas is not evident.
Perhaps you've seen it. What nonsense! What nastiness! This is not at all the message of Christ.
Our Lord came to show us the way to God, live and in the flesh as a helpless baby. A little baby does not
spend time worrying about whether shopkeepers say "Merry Christmas" instead of "Happy Holidays". A little
baby, and this little baby in particular, the Christ, invites us to hold him, to adore him, and to look into his eyes
and see our hope and our future.
This Christmas let's hold the child Jesus in our hearts and in our arms as we would our own child, or a
grandchild. Let's share him with others as we would let a neighbour peer into the crib at our own baby in our
own house. Threats and nasty emails never brought anyone in to see our new baby, and neither will they help
anyone to embrace Christ.
It is only in welcoming others into our Church family, in sharing the wonder of this child and in thinking first
about Jesus, as we would our own newborn son or daughter, that we will stop thinking of ourselves and help
bring each other closer to the joy of the Messiah this Christmas.
Merry Christmas my brothers, to you and yours, and happy holidays as well!

Dear Mr. Burns,
Bishop Fabbro was away at meetings last week and has only recently had the opportunity to view your
request. The Bishop is willing to grant the permission to invite Deacon Jeremy Tyrrell to serve as Chaplain for
Council 1453.
Should Deacon Jeremy accept this invitation, we look forward to receiving the formal request at which time Bishop
Fabbro will write the formal letter of appointment.

I encourage all members who have female relatives uto
invite them to join our Ladies Auxiliary, they need d

Not much to say this month. We had a good
attendance at the Memorial Mass and fish fries have
been well attended and the help has been very good.
Just a reminder that it would help if people would call
ahead. The next fish fries are Jan 20 and Feb 17.
Cards with Essex did not go well, however the
rematch will be on April 11 at St. Cyril's Hall. We need
the A team so give me a call 519-945-8808.I hope
everyone has a safe and enjoyable CHRISTMAS
season and I will speak to you in the New Year.

Brothers and Families
Families, friends and members met November 13th
at Corpus Christi Church to remember our members
which died this past year, and all members who have
gone before us.
Thanks to Holy Family Council 4386, their
Chancellor Shawn Searcy for making the cards and
hosting this memorial, and the GK Gary Norman for
his readings.
Poinsettias will be distributed on Saturday,
December 17th to our sick, homebound and shut-in
members. Names of those brothers must be in by our
dinner meeting, December 14th. Help is needed to
deliver them, please volunteer.
At this time, I want to wish all Brothers Knights,
your families and friends a Blessed and Merry
Christmas, and a safe and Happy New Year. Again
thanks to all who took part in our Council activities
during 2011.

HOW IMPORTANT IS THIS NEWSLETTER?
Recently a PFN FDD confronted me with the news that
this paper is way too expensive and we could do with
one sheet of paper, used on both sides. He stated no one
reads it, and no one cares. I disagreed, we only get less
than 2 dozen members at a meeting, and this goes to
about 200 members, widows, families and other
Councils, bringing them information and news. If the
consensus of the membership is to quit, fine. We can
terminate an 84+ year history. What do you say?
I am happy to report that the raffle
of the ROMANCE BASKET at the FISH
FRY was a great success and once
again I'd like to thank the ladies
and especially Gay Bois for selling
tickets throughout the year.
There won't be a meeting in January
and we will resume in February.
I'd like to remind you again about
our Christmas dinner party at
Koolini Res. on Dec. 11 at 5pm.It
will give us an opportunity to
celebrate together our many years of
friendship and to extend greetings.
If I won't see you then I send you

Five Great Reasons to Join the Knights of Columbus:
1. You Can Change Lives - The Supreme Knight highlighted the Order's partnership with the Global
Wheelchair Mission, which provides low-cost, high-quality wheelchairs to poor people around the world. He
spoke of his experience in Haiti, where he joined others in lifting people into wheelchairs who were injured
in the January earthquake.
2. You Can Save Lives - the Knights of Columbus is dedicated to providing ultrasound machines to
pro-life pregnancy centres across the United States, Anderson explained. Thus far, about 60 machines
have been delivered to centres in 25 states, with more to come.
3. You Can Help Build Up the Church - the Knights of Columbus is the strong right arm of the Church
and the helping hand of every pastor, he said. The Order is an ardent supporter of vocations to the
priesthood and religious life, and many of the newest I vocations today come directly from Knights of
Columbus families and the members of college councils.

4. You Can Discern Your Own Vocation- Whether God is calling you to Priesthood or the lay life,
membership in the Knights of Columbus is a sure way to discern just what God has in mind for you, the
supreme knight added.
In the fraternal company of like-minded young Catholic men; in the process of planning and carrying out
charitable and religious programs with your council, and in prayerful reflection at spiritual events, you
are more likely to hear God's call, and to have the courage and conviction to respond with generosity. I
5. You Can Develop Leadership Skills - As a college knight, young men are called to be not only
tomorrow's leaders, but the leaders of today, Anderson concluded. By joining a Catholic organization of
1.8 million men and their families, a young man has a built-in structure and tradition through which to
express his individual talents and skills and build them as he moves along the leadership positions in his
council. The motto of the college council program is "Leaders for Life."
Knights of Columbus International Bowling Tournament
This coming year the International Bowling Tournament will be held in Fairview Heights, Illinois.
Our council is looking at going the last weekend of the tournament April 21 st & 22nd, 2012.
Anyone interested in going to the tournament can contact Ray Dupuis or Roy Renaud. Riverside
K of C is looking at getting a bus for the tournament. We are also looking at air fare for trip. The
cost for all events is $65 US. Deadline for entries is January 31, 2012.
Knights of Columbus 2012 dues are now due. Please pay your dues promptly.
