Cover Story
Classic, Clean, and CREAM….
these were the directives to the design team from
our truly discerning clients. This project was so
special! The owners had traveled and lived overseas
and throughout the world for many years, and as
a result they were ready to stabilize into a quiet
compound. The architecture is monumentally
perfect in its simplicity. The massive front doors
open to reveal the surprise of a striking courtyard
and walkways heading to both the main residence
and the cabana building. Strolling past the huge
glass walls and doors with glimpses inside, you
finally reach the entry. This begins the story of
fine line detailing, on every surface. With “hands
on” intelligence and involvement from our client
who participated in every stage of selections. We
remained loyal to the vision of quality, detail, texture,
and mostly to a layered palette of extraordinary
variety of CREAM. The individual pieces, plus a
collection of gallery worthy art have been selected
and created to enhance the lives of the owners.
FAMILY ROOM
Creating a casual space for entertaining, as well
as the activities of the day, while maintaining the
elegance of the overall residence, was the goal for
this open concept family room.
• The strong architectural presence from the
beams and drop lighting was balanced with
cream painted walls and textures, and traced
pattern on the drapery that served as a uniting
factor in all three areas.
• Thoughtfully designed specifically for the family
room, the television is a replica of an antique
chest and serves to weight the presence of the
stone fireplace feature.
• Custom furniture pieces scaled and designed to
provide ample seating when entertaining guests
or watching TV.

Kitchen
A space that is open to the breakfast and family
room with plenty of room for friends and family
to gather around while the food is being prepared.
• A custom iron design was constructed to fit
within the arched niche above the sink which
mimics the range stone backsplash.
• The reclaimed walnut breakfast table surrounded
by custom cream leather and striped linen
upholstered chairs was strategically placed to
provide additional workspace for the client as
well as a visual continuity between the kitchen
and family room.
• A custom settee under the window and a
circular desk nook adjoining the kitchen allows
for easy access to menu plans and a place for a
guest to sit and visit.

DINING/LIVING ROOM
The double sided limestone fireplace is the
monumental structure that defines these rooms.
The hardcoat plaster walls set the backdrop for the
custom designed furniture in this elegant space.
Because the rooms are adjacent, they share many
design elements, such as the repeated custom mirror.
Every element of the dining room was designed to
fit the clients' specific need to provide a place to
entertain for dining that can seat up to ten once the
table is expanded. The stunning focal point for the
living room is the wood framed chairs with painted
velvet upholstery, which flank the double sided
limestone fireplace (see page 59). These rooms were
desired to be a peaceful retreat but to also be used
as a serene backdrop for entertaining when needed.
• The character piece in the dining room is the
custom hand planed Walnut table with a brass
inlay design and an elm-burl banding.
• The dining room buffet was custom scaled to
remain proportionate in the room even once
the table expands to seat as many as ten.
• The Custom antiqued mirror in the dining
and living room was scaled for the room and
set into an intricately carved wood frame
with a custom hand painted silver finish.
• Both rooms featured the mix of the beaded
crystal and iron chandelier with the use of
the unexpected modern lamps, keep the room
light and interesting.
• Each room had tranquil landscape paintings by
Marty Ricks.
• The custom Louis XII reproduction sofa was
upholstered in an elegant creamy wool.
• Hand painted pillows add a soft pattern to
the room.

MEDIA ROOM
The key inspiration for this media room began
with two original vintage prints from the owners’
collection. The color palette of rich browns and
deep golds were pulled from these images and
created a warm glow throughout the space.
• The variety of custom furniture which includes
leather recliners, mohair chairs, and a woven
patterned linen sofa provide an assortment of
sumptuous textures. Distinctive accessories that
include cowhide pillows, painted table lamps and
exotic plants complete the room.
• Custom window treatment in a golden bronze
linen fabric lined with blackout fabric allow
for complete darkness to enhance the movie
experience. Even the interior glass passage doors
get closed down with inside panels.
• Contrasting the hand planed wood floor is a
leather bound sisal rug which introduces yet
another layer of depth to the space.

MASTER BEDROOM
The clients sought a soft and serene Master
bedroom in which they could relax and enjoy a
cup of coffee by the fireplace or read a book, while
enjoying the incredible view of their courtyard
and expansive backyard. A golden creamy color
palette was selected for the custom furniture and
carried through to the hard coat plaster walls. Hand
painted beams frame the Fortuny silk chandelier
that graces the ceiling.

• A custom shaped settee was designed to
provide an elegant seating area at the end of
the custom reproduction Louis XVI Canopy
Bed manufactured by Manheim Ruseau.
• The delicate antique wood inlay writing desk
is tastefully hidden by the fireplace as a quiet
work space. The soft and serene art pieces above

CABANA
The Cabana provides a fresh retreat for the
homeowner while still acknowledging the clean
and classic look of the home. Architectural
elements such as the sculpted stucco fireplace and
bench serve as an organic backdrop for a variety
of materials and textures. The cabanas proximity
to the pool renders it ideal for use as a pool room
while the inclusion of a sofa bed allows for the
space to double as guest quarters.
• Natural elements such as the bamboo blinds,
linen striped sheers, the horsehair ottomans, and
wood details provide a sense of warmth and
tranquility.
• A two tier custom hand crafted iron chandelier
and the metal round side tables on either side of
the sofa bring another element into the space.
• The clients own art from literally years of world
travel bringing character to this space.
LIBRARY
The striking mix of contemporary art with the
tailored furnishings set the mark for the library. The
Dessin Fournir desk and side chairs are flanked on
either side by floor to ceiling bookshelves to create
a quiet place to work or read. Behind the double
pocket doors is an additional work area for the
library to double as a home office. The Michelle
Williams painting from Area on the back wall is the
quiet anchor for the room, adding interest as well
as ambiance.
