Make a file on your desktop called “Venetian Masks” and drag 5-10 images of Venetian masks that
appeal/interest you into your folder.

Narrow your decisions and sketch out three quick thumbnail sketches of your “final three” choices. Make sure
you make the masks unique in some way-- don’t copy your reference image completely.

Discuss with me which one you decide on and create a more detailed sketch of your final choice. Based on the

Venetian Mask Styles
Jolly Mask- A stunning, full-faced Venetian masquerade mask with points made of highly decorative document
paper.
Volto-A beautiful, full-faced, traditional carnival mask.
Bauta mask- covers the whole face, with a stubborn chin line, no mouth, and lots of gilding.
Columbina mask or Half Mask- usually contains feathers and is worn by holding it up to your face with an
attached stick.
Plague Doctor's mask- has a large, hooked nose. According to tradition, the beak was intended to protect the
wearer from being infected by the plague.
