First Weekend Club’s Canadian Film Lounge
Location: Fairmont Royal York Hotel
Loading up on unique trinkets is all good fun, but this afternoon event feels more like a charging
station for harried, VIP TIFF-goers. Packed into a Fairmont Royal York suite for an afternoon, the
atmosphere is that of a hotel-room party — with refreshments on hand, and plenty of dishing and
networking and yes, even discussion about the films. (First Weekend Club is a non-profit promoting
Canadian movies, after all, and trailers for selections including Antiviral and Laurence, Anyways play
on loop in one corner of the space.)
Need a touch-up before hitting the next red carpet? Vasanti Cosmetics make-up artists and Fiorio
Salon stylists are on hand for touch ups. And miracle workers from Wright Spa are there offering back,
foot and hand massages.
And should you be V.V.VIP, you’re invited to the lounge’s fashion capsule — a bedroom packed with
jewelry and giggly guests — to pick out Canadian-made baubles that’ll look great on a red carpet.
Celebrity guests: Brandon Cronenberg (Antiviral), Emily Hampshire (Cosmopolis), Vik Sahay (Chuck),
Katie Boland (The Master)
The haul includes: Beauty and skincare products from Vasanti, Sappho Organics, Flexitol, Glymm,
Sigrid, Splat, Smart
Mouth; men’s grooming swag from Classic Edge Shaving Store, Cromwell
and Cruthers; Kusmi Tea; Lolë yoga togs; accessories from Green Shag, Keggy, Stella Margaritis
Jewelry; all-natural spreads from Caramoomel; a We-Vibe; Cilque silk bedding; Spin Master toys; the
Wink! Intimates 9 to 5 bra; Dressed’n-case convertible dress.

Harris Poll EquiTrend: Mass-Market Cosmetics Rival Premium Brands
Origins and Physicians Formula emerge as Harris Poll EquiTrend
Brands of the Year in their respective cosmetics categories; massmarket cosmetic brands continue to gain while prestige cosmetics
remain flat
NEW YORK, Sept. 27, 2012 -- /PRNewswire/ -- Designer names and price tags are not prerequisites for strong brand equity
among cosmetics. In fact, the 2012 Harris Poll EquiTrend® study indicates that prestige cosmetics brands, even with all the
thrills of beauty counters and makeup artists, are not necessarily earning the highest brand equity scores. On the contrary,
data show that lower priced, mass-market cosmetics are generally performing comparatively well on key equity measures
included in this study. Harris Poll EquiTrend is an annual brand health assessment of over 1,500 product, service, and
lifestyle brands from Harris Interactive.
To view the multimedia assets associated with this release, please click http://www.prnewswire.com/newsreleases/harris-poll-equitrend-mass-market-cosmetics-rival-premium-brands-171585351.html
"When we compare all the cosmetics brands irrespective of category, mass-market brands perform very well when
compared to their prestige counterparts, particularly traditional department store brands like Estee Lauder and Elizabeth
Arden," says Joan Sinopoli, a Senior Vice President and Senior Consultant with Harris Interactive's Custom Solutions Group.
This finding is borne out in the dynamic between Origins Cosmetics, the Prestige Cosmetics Brand of the Year, and MassMarket Cosmetics Brand of the Year, Physicians Formula Cosmetics. In addition to being the top-ranked brand in its
category, Physicians Formula's equity score outpaces that of the more high-end Origins.
Physicians Formula is a brand to watch; not only is it a clear equity leader in the mass-market arena,
but it maintains that leadership across most measures of Consumer Connection and Brand
Momentum.
The dynamic among prestige cosmetics is quite different. Origins emerges as one of three similarly rated brands, but
looking across three key metrics—Equity, Consumer Connection, and Brand Momentum—no one brand can claim
preemptive leadership. "The variability in the prestige market does add to the impression that it is more niche; each brand
has certain strengths regardless of how much or how little traditional marketing it does," continues Sinopoli. "Physicians
Formula may be a case for how clear differentiation and social media marketing can help boost a brand to a leadership
position in the mass-market."
Physicians Formula is a "Fit" as Mass-Market Cosmetics Brand of the Year
Physicians Formula Cosmetics is Harris Poll EquiTrend's Mass-Market Cosmetics Brand of the Year in 2012.
"The brand's cosmeceutical or quasi-clinical positioning helps it appeal to a sophisticated cosmetics buyer, and they are in
the right segments, with anti-aging and mineral wear. They even have some fun with a mood-boosting product line," says
Sinopoli. "Perhaps most importantly, Physicians Formula is building intimate relationships with their consumers, as their
tagline—'Your beauty. Our passion. We promise.'— suggests. This tagline could be an example of the Fit metric in action."
Three factors appear to be driving Physicians Formula's Brand of the Year ranking. First is the element of Trust. "That
'physician' association may very well be helping to drive both Trust and high Quality ratings," offers Sinopoli. Then, and
very noteworthy, is Fit; 41 percent of respondents consider Physicians Formula a "good" or "perfect" fit with their selfimage. Finally, Physicians Formula posted a category high score in the Social Engagement metric. "Harris Poll EquiTrend's
methodology shows us that 18 percent of those consumers rating the brand have interacted with it in the social media
sphere. This may well be their secret sauce," says Sinopoli.
Physicians Formula holds a comfortable advantage over the second-ranked brand, Rimmel Cosmetics. Olay Cosmetics,
Neutrogena Cosmetics, and Maybelline Cosmetics also outpace the remaining mass-market cosmetic brands by earning
equity scores above the category

You know, Bettys, sometimes I marvel at how smart cosmetics and body products have gotten. Would
you have ever thought that someone would invent, say, a type of blush that can actually turn itself into
the perfect shade for your skin tone as soon as it hits your face? Me neither—but lo and behold, it
exists!
PJ told you all how much she loved Physician’s Formula’s Matchmaker pH Powered Bronzer a month or
two ago—and I’m happy to report that I had an equally awesome experience with the bronzer’s blush
counterpart. Physician’s Formula Matchmaker pH Powered Blush ($12.95, physiciansformula.com and
drugstores nationwide) employs two secret ingredients: Fluorescein baked dyes and photochromic
powders. These two ingredients react with both the natural pH levels of your skin and the light and
environment around you to transform the blush into just the right color for you within 60 seconds of
application.
Read Beauty Road Test: Essence Stay All Day Shadow Does the Trick!
And Bettys? It’s like magic. Seriously—when I swept the blush onto my cheeks, I swear I could see it
shift oh so subtly until it arrived at the perfect shade for my face. It took me from day to night, too, with
a quick touch up later in the day working with the change in light for a more dramatic look. The
packaging is also super cute; the compact comes equipped with its own light-up mirror and a mini
blush brush, so you can freshen up your look anytime, anywhere. And finally, like all Physican’s Formula
products, the blush is hypoallergenic, fragrance free, dermatologist approved, and non-comedogenic.
Cosmetics that both look good AND are good for you? It’s a win-win situation!

Viviscal and MICRO Pedi will be featured in
one of the most popular “swag” lounges at
the Toronto International Film Festival, which
is one of the biggest film festivals in the
world, and attracts a host of A-list celebrities.
I have attached the invitation here, as you can
see, Viviscal and MICRO Pedi will both be
featured in all Tastemakers PR.
TIFF just wouldn’t be the same without its annual Tastemakers Lounge, put on by RockIt Promotions. Local and international guests and celebrities can sit back and relax in
the three-room spread while indulging in a wide variety of products. The lounge will be
opening its doors — by appointment only for directors and talent — from Sept. 6 to
Sept. 13 between the hours of 10 a.m., and 5 p.m. Below, we guide you through what
it’s like for each of your five senses to visit the lounge:
Touch: It now exists, the perfect portable and hand-held pedicure machine.
Emjoi’s MICRO Pedi actually allows you to pedicure your feet on the run
(not literally). But if you are in a car or even on the subway, this portable
pedicure machine will get the job done. Just be sure to wash it under cold
water because you don’t want the dead skin building up.

TASTEMAKERS LOUNGE AT TIFF 2012
September 6, 2012
It's TIFF time in the city of Toronto and while we dream of walking in the shoes ( preferably Louboutins ) of a
celebrity, yesterday, we were fortunate to get a taste of how we support them with TIFF celebrity lounges around
the city. Did you know that TIFF ranks as the #1 film festival in the world in all categories, it's a very well kept
secret that you won't hear anywhere else.
As with any type of job, a celebrity does have to perform certain tasks associated with their work. Sometimes the
days are less than glamorous with days starting and ending at the crack of dawn. Battling traffic, weather, high
heels and time, can be very stressful. Getting to where you need to be looking and more importantly feeling your
best can be challenging on the best of days. Herein lies the beauty ( pun intended ) of the TIFF lounges:
Hair Rescue - because a bad day affects your mood and definitely pictures! Viviscal
supplement contains AminoMar C Marine Complex supplies nutrients to feed thinning
hair making it stronger and promoting growth; courtesy of Viviscal.
Heel Rescue - because heels can hurt and cause calluses and dry skin sometimes ( and
we do love our heels ). Getting rid of dry skin on our heels has never been easier. MICRO
pedi is a rotating filing hand held at-home device that safely removes skin in seconds;

Testing: Viviscal's Micro-Pedi
Testing Period: Two weeks
Tested By: Sarah Kelsey, Editor, Style
What It Is: A battery-powered way to get pedicure-smooth feet without having to pay for an actual salon service.
How To: Roll the Micro-Pedi over calloused areas of your feet to buff away dead skin cells.
What We Thought: Using a micro-mineral roller that rotates 30 times a second, the tool is said to gently and effectively
remove the gross, dead skin cells that make feet feel rough and dry. There are two rollers to choose from: one that's
blue (for extra rough skin) and one that's magenta. So what did I think?
The product definitely works. After rubbing the tool over my heels for about five minutes (which crack easily because
of all of the running and working out I do), they felt smooth and soft. And, as an added bonus, the pain associated with
my cracked heels all but disappeared. The product is simple to use.
The Downfalls: I like going to a salon to get a pedicure -- it's relaxing. That being said, sitting in a chair and having
someone else work on my feet is time-consuming and expensive. So if you like the experience of visiting a spa, you'll
feel like you're missing out by only using this product. It should also be said, the Micro-Pedi cannot fix cuticles or paint
toenails (so you'll have to do that on your own once the foot rolling is done). Be sure to add moisturizer to your feet
after you treat them.
Tips: This product should only be used on dry skin (the rollers aren't meant to get wet). You can brush dead skin cells
from the object by using a cleaning tool the Micro-Pedi comes with.
Final Remarks: If you want to keep your heels from cracking on a regular basis (and can't afford or don't like spa
pedicures) this product is a must-use beauty tool.

Fall beauty saviours
Win the fall beauty battle against fall’s elements – we’re talking different hair texture, watery eyes, dry skin and
even acne.
Autumn is such a juicy month for fashion and beauty: as the leaves turn colour and the days get shorter, we can look
forward to wearing deep red lipsticks, and sumptuous wools and rich embellishments. But the fall weather also brings
with it dry, cold air and allergies that can knock you out of your happy beauty status faster than a Kim Kardashian
marriage. But there’s no need to suffer through the season miserably or (gasp!) looking less than your best. Here’s how
to put on your prettiest face forward for fall no matter what’s ailing you in the fall beauty department.
Fall beauty crisis: Hair that’s behaving differently
Beauty cure: Your hair may be damaged by the sun from the summer, and there’s not as much humidity in the air so
you may find your hair acting differently with the change of season, says Greg May, owner of Greg May Hair Architects
in Toronto. “Woolly hair texture types may find their hair is not as frizzy, for example.”
To help with the transition into autumn, deep condition your hair every week or so. “But depending on your hair
texture, you may not want to go with as heavy as a conditioner into the fall,” he says. Resist going for the deepest
conditioning product you can find as hair could be oily or greasy looking if you overdo the conditioner, says May. Save
that for when winter arrives and the air is even colder and dryer (and we all know that's going to happen soon!). With
this in mind, he also suggests paring back a little from your leave-in treatments and smoothing creams you’ve been
using for combating frizz.
Don’t overlook rejuvenating your hair from the inside out as well, not matter what your hair texture. Just launched in
Viviscal
Canada,
is a nutritional hair supplement that’s helps to nourish hair and promote existing hair growth,
which may be what your summer-damaged hair needs. The Finnish product’s key ingredient is AminoMar C (a
proprietary blend of proteins and ingredients such as acerola cherry, silica and oyster) and Reese Witherspoon, along
with many top models, attributes her healthy hair texture (which gets put through so much what with styling it for the
red carpet and for photo and movie shoots)to the supplement.

Product Launches! Viviscal & Micro Pedi
We recently had a chance to try a new products at a Beauty Product Launch
downtown Toronto. We had a fabulous time, just because we actually
needed the products we were introduced to. We were introduced to
Viviscal, a nutritional hair supplement that is clinically proven to nourish
thinning hair and promote existing hair growth. For myself, I was shocked!
Being diagnosed with Alopecia for a few years, I had never heard of this
product! So I’m going to give the Viviscal supplement a go for a few months
and see how it does.
The second product was really fun & functional!
Named the Micro Pedi, the portable device cleans
up your ragged feet and heels. Micro Pedi easily
remove dry, rough callused skin. We wouldn’t write
this if we didn’t try the device ourselves, so we were
given a demonstration, which was amazing. Not
only did the device remove all the dead skin, but it
was easy to operate and it’s easy to clean.
