WOWS!
Lectures begin at 9:30 am and conclude by 12:00 pm.
Please register to attend 984-1234.
THE VALUE OF ART
Wednesday, January 20th
9:30 am - 12:00 pm
The art world has been a “hot
topic” in the New York Times
and Wall Street Journal. It raises
some interesting questions
regarding this phenomenon such
as who gets to call it art and
why does some art sell for such
high prices? We will take an all-inclusive look at the economic, societal, and essential values of art and why it is
important in our lives. Moderator: Sam Hollingsworth,
exhibiting artist represented by Marta Hewett Gallery in
Cincinnati.
PERSONALITY IN MIND AND BRAIN
Wednesday, February 10th
9:30 am–12:00 pm
What best describes your personality?
How much of your personality is
inheritable and hard-wired in your
brain at birth? Are there differences in
the size and structure of brain
regions of people who score high on extraversion, emotionality, and conscientiousness? We will explore these
and other current neurobiological and psychological perspectives of personality. Moderator: George Bishop,
PhD, psychology (MI State Univ.), specialized in
personality and social psychology.
BEN FRANKLIN: WHAT A GUY!
Wednesday, January 27th
9:30 am–12:00 pm
From poverty to the courts of
Europe. Inventor, scientist,
diplomat, musician, and
revolutionist! We have all
benefited from Ben Franklin’s
inspiration and drive. Come
and meet him again.
Moderator: Deb Price She is a “jack of many trades”
who has brought us “Ohio Inventions” and other fascinating topics.
THE COLE PORTER STORY
“You’re the Top”
Wednesday, February 17th
9:30 am–12:00 pm
Cole Porter was one of a handful
of composers who also wrote the
lyrics, which are extremely clever
with many innuendos and
double-entendres. Porter wrote
many Broadway shows, including
“Anything Goes” and “Kiss Me Kate”, and composed
movie music as well. We’ll discuss Porter’s shows, music
and legacy. Moderator: Doug Iden is a big fan of
movies and theatrical musicals with an extensive
collection of films and original Broadway scores.
1776 TO 1777: THE NEW JERSEY CAMPAIGN
Wednesday, February 3rd
9:30 am–12:00 pm
CLIMATE CHANGE: WHAT IS THE EVIDENCE?
Wednesday, February 24th
9:30 am–12:00 pm
Learn the nature of climate change
and the evidence for and against it.
If we accept that climate change
is an authentic, established,
scientifically based theory, then we
need to consider the timeline and
predictions for the future, the state
of the oceans, the environment, and the overall effect on
the biosphere. Finally, if we anticipate serious disruptive
changes in world climate, are there technological fixes
that will eliminate or lessen the impact?
Moderator: K. John Morrow, PhD, molecular biologist
and president of Newport Biotechnology Consultants.
A follow up to last year’s
“New York Campaign”
presentation. After losing
a series of major battles in
the New York area, George
Washington’s Continental Army
was forced to retreat across
New Jersey pursued and
outnumbered by British forces. We will follow from the
Hudson to the Delaware River, then detail how, over ten
days in the dead of winter, Washington achieved brilliant
victories at Trenton and Princeton, recovered support for
the Revolution, and forced the British to recognize that
this would be a long and costly war.
Moderator: Stephen Appel, AB and MBA, University of
Chicago.

Volunteers deliver these meals Monday through Friday
and microwavable meals are included for the weekend.
Our program is designed to fit the lifestyle and taste of our
clients by providing a choice in the meals they receive and
days they receive them. Meals provide one-third of the
government's daily-recommended dietary allowance.
Volunteers check on the welfare of our clients; they offer
friendship. If you are interested, or know someone who
may benefit from these services, contact us to discuss your
options. If eligible, the price is on a donation basis.
Private Pay is available at a cost of $5 for each meal.
Whether it’s a trip into the Senior Center for an activity,
meal and companionship, or a check-up at the doctor’s
office, SSC works to ensure that seniors who need help
with transportation can get it. We offer door-to-door Van
Transportation to medical appointments for those who live
in our service area. Those over 60 qualify for Title III
discount for medical services. We ask for, at least, a week’s
notice for all appointments. The Sycamore Shuttle service
runs Monday through Friday to and from the Senior Center
between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm. $5.00 round trip is the
suggested donation for the shuttle.

step-by-step Circuit Workout.
BLACK HISTORY MONTH
During February, we will honor
Black History Month with exhibits
on loan from The John Parker
House and the John Rankin House
(both National Historic Landmarks). Both Ohio Underground
Railroad sites, along with their
Brown County neighbors, aided
more than 2,500 slaves escaping
to freedom. The imprint of Black
Americans is deeply embedded in
the narrative of the American
past, beginning before the arrival
of the Mayflower which prompts
us to reflect on the hallowed
grounds, these places of
America’s history.
Sycamore Senior Center closings or delays are posted to the radio
station 700 WLW, television stations WKRC Channel 12 and WCPO
Channel 9. Closures and delays are usually reported only after school
closings are listed. For accurate and timely information, call the center’s
main number 984-1234 for a recorded report of the Senior Center’s
closings/delays. Typically, if the Sycamore School District is closed, the
Senior Center will also close and Home Delivered Meals will not be
delivered. However, there are times when Meals on Wheels are
delivered even when the center is closed. Please check by calling the
center. In addition, Transportation Services are not available when the
Senior Center closes for weather emergencies. We suggest transportation clients have a backup transportation plan for appointments. You
can have email alerts automatically sent to your smart phone when the
center is closed. To receive a SMS alert via text message, sign up
through your local television station. There is no cost for this service
from the station, but some carriers do charge a small fee to send or
receive a text message. Read more at your local TV stations’ web site.

Are you taking the RIGHT medications?
Let your DNA answer the question….
DNA TESTING
Tuesday, February 23rd
1:00 pm - 3:45 pm
If you’ve ever been prescribed medication, you’ve probably heard this phrase from a doctor: “Take this
medicine, let’s schedule you for a follow-up visit. We will see how you are feeling and if the medication is
working well for you.” Although this is the current standard of care, it is now possible to individualize
medication choices to save time, money and frustration, for both you and your physician. Complete Health
Consultants, in conjunction with MyGentex (a CLIA certified genetics laboratory), through a simple swish
and spit DNA test, can help you and your doctor receive information to determine what medications will
work best, what dosage is most effective and even, which to avoid.
There are many advantages to pursuing pharmacogenetics testing. First, because your DNA is unchanging,
it’s a once in a lifetime test. Second, it tests your DNA against all liver metabolized drugs. Next, it can lower
your prescription drug copays because the trial and error process will be eliminated. Lastly, you may get
well sooner because you will be prescribed the right medication the first time.
The cost of the testing is $498 and must be paid the day we collect the sample. Results are ready in as
soon as 2 weeks and will be personally delivered and explained to you. You will be given 2 copies, so that
you can provide your Physician with a copy. We DO NOT bill your insurance, but we will provide you with
a receipt that can be submitted for possible reimbursement. Please direct questions to Complete Health
Consultants 513-489-0607. Register at the reception center 984-1234.
