GOOD NEWS! It is not too late to help your child to pass these requirements.
We urge you to request a face-to-face meeting with the counselor or principal as
soon as possible.
We want 100% graduation participation this year. Help us to prepare your
child to stay focused, come to school each day, attend tutoring sessions and work
harder to earn required credits to graduate.

The first Trunk or Treat was sponsored by the West Tallahatchie PTO President (Mrs. Essie Adams) and Vice President
(Ms. Wynde Bailey). The parents and students of the West Tallahatchie School District were very excited about this event.
The intended purpose of the Trunk or Treat was for the students to enjoy a safe Halloween. The Trunk or Treat was held
on the campus of the West Tallahatchie High School where the
children were welcomed by decorated cars and trunks filled with
delicious treats. The children were dressed in costumes. The
Best Costume Awards was awarded to Little Miss a Kaylin
Wright, a 3rd grade student at R H Bearden School. A school
bus was decorated as a haunted house with spooky music and
sounds. The candy used for the Trunk or Treat was donated by
parents and staff of the West Tallahatchie School District.
The West Tallahatchie High School PTO would like to thank
everyone who donated and participated in this event.

West Tallahatchie Food Service celebrated National School Lunch Week during the
week of October 10-14, 2011. Theme: Let’s Grow Healthy!
'If you want to

of a pear, you
must change
the pear by
eating it.'

National School Lunch Week is a time to recognize the valuable contributions made
by the National School Lunch Program since its inception in 1946. This program is responsible for providing over 29 million children with access to fresh fruits, vegetables, milk, and
other healthy foods while in school. During National School Week we celebrate the impact
that this program has had on childhood obesity. School lunch program will help students
understand where food comes from while highlighting the overall benefit that school lunch
helps our children grow strong and healthy.
The school lunch program is set up to meet children's nutritional needs while they
are away from home. The nutrition goals are based on the Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDA). Breakfast meets ¼ of the RDA while lunch meets 1/3 of the RDA for protein,
vitamin A, vitamin C, iron, calcium and calories for children. The meals served are based on
the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, which indicate that no more than 30 percent of calories should come from fat and less than 10 percent from saturated fat. All food served is also
moderate in sodium and sugar.
The school lunch program strives to promote variety, balance and moderation in
meal planning. The goal is to teach children to make healthy food choices and understand
the importance of those choices to their overall health. Emphasis is placed on the nutritional
components of various foods to promote a healthy body.
The school nutrition manager has been trained to understand the role nutrition plays
in children's health so that information can be passed along to the students in order to empower them to make healthier food selections.
Theme days and promotions were very popular with children as they enjoyed trying
different dishes.

Homecoming Door Decorations
During recent Homecoming festivities, teachers and
students were asked to be creative with door decorations. Ms. Taylor, along with her fifth period class,
went beyond expectations and created a door with
3D attributes. This earned them first place in the
competition. They will be rewarded with a pizza
party for their hard work and creativity.
