Thursday and Friday
Student/Parent/Teacher conferences
begin next Thursday, Dec. 12, at 12:30
p.m. and continue on Friday from
8:00 - 3:30 p.m. If you have not yet
signed up, here’s how:
• Grades PK-5: sign up with your
child’s homeroom teacher. Signup sheets are located outside each
classroom
• Middle & High School: sign-up
forms were emailed to you before
Thanksgiving Break. Please
contact the Office if you have any
questions.
Classes are dismissed before
lunch on Thursday, Dec. 12
Dismissal for all students is 11:15.
Buses depart at 11:25. Late bus leaves
at 5:15. Santa’s Workshop from 11:153:00. Do Drop until 5:15. There will
be no classes on Friday, Dec. 13.
Help the Island School chorus raise
funds for their trip to O‘ahu for the
Ho‘olokahi All-State High School Choral Festival. Tonight, Dec. 5, Bobby V’s
Italian Restaurant & Pizzeria in Kapa‘a
will donate 25% of patrons’ lunch or
dinner tabs to the fundraising efforts
of the Island School Chorus. Located
on Kuhio Highway across from the
Foodland plaza, Bobby V’s serves
reasonably priced, authentic Italian
meals prepared with the freshest locally available ingredients. Stop by on
your way home from school or work
and pick up dinner! Diners must turn
in a flyer (see page 5) in order for the
chorus to receive the donation.
Slipper Tree
Needs Slippers
Each year, the
Island School
ohana donates new
slippers to decorate
our Norfolk pine
in the elementary
courtyard. This idea
came to Joan Shaw from a friend back
east whose school collected mittens in
a similar way. Slippers can be of any
size or color and will be donated to
Hale Ho‘omalu for distribution to needy
families. Slippers may be dropped off in
the front Office.
The Mānoa Experience
You are invited to attend an
informational meeting about the
University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa
(UHM) on the island of Kaua‘i. Learn
about academic programs, campus
life, and the many opportunities UHM
has to offer. Saturday, December
7, at the Kaua‘i Beach Resort from
1:00 - 3:00 p.m. Registration begins
at 12:30 p.m. and heavy pupus will
be provided. Prospective students
need to register for the reception
and can register directly online at
manoaexperience-kauai.eventbrite.com.
Santa’s Workshop for PK-5
Student Government is organizing
lunch and a festive holiday afternoon
for children in PK-5. Registration
deadline is Wednesday, Dec. 11 by
3:30 p.m. in the Office or at the table
in the elementary courtyard. Online
registration is also available at http://

midnight on Dec. 11. Just fill out the
information on the top, scroll down
to “Other” in the payment section,
and specify “SANTA.” For more
information, see the flyer on page 7.

ROBOTICS – Over Thanksgiving
break, our LegoMasters met at school
to work on team building, which is
one out of three judging categories
at the State Lego Tournament this
coming Saturday on O‘ahu. Thanks
to Traci Sullivan for creating the
practice activities. Watch this space
for news on how they fare at the
tournament.
LRC – In addition to the fish
mobiles made by our PK students,
the LRC is currently displaying
Rainbow Fish paintings made by the
Kindergartners. Stop by and have
a look!
INTERACT CLUB – Interact Club
will begin selling T-shirts to raise
money for those affected by Typhoon
Haiyan in the Philippines. Sales will
begin on Monday. They will also shop
for and wrap presents for Nana’s
House on Dec. 10, in cooperation with
Po‘ipu Rotary Club. On Saturday,
Dec. 14, the gifts will be presented to

MONTESSORI HALE ELEMENTARY OPPORTUNITIES:
Holiday Gift Workshop - students ages 6-12 on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, Dec. 21, 22, and 23. Large
selections of crafts that can produce precious handmade gifts are being offered while parents have the
chance to get their chores done. Choose your days.
One time $10 material/admission fee. The cost per
day is $50. Outdoor Adventure Vacation Week - Hiking, fishing, exploration in nature and lots of
healthy exercise await participants during Winter

classroom and away from technology as they immerse

and bring in their Secret Santa gift by Dec. 17.

Middle School students have adopted one
family and High School students have adopted two
Kaua‘i families in cooperation with Pam Chock of
Child & Family Service. Instead of exchanging gifts
among themselves, they have been meeting in class
groups to design ways to make the holidays a little
more cheerful for their families. If your student
is participating in this voluntary activity, their
unwrapped gifts are due on December 20. If you
