NIPEC has refreshed its website to make it more user-friendly and
responsive to the needs of the user.
Within the revised design, news features have been incorporated,
including Meet the Team (a dedicated section devoted to the

Loneliness and ageing: Ireland, North and South
Paper prepared by Brian Harvey & Kathy Walsh, The Institute of Public Health in Ireland, March 2016.
The authors’ aim is to contribute to enhanced understanding of loneliness, and their research suggests
that approximately 10% of older people are affected by chronic or persistent loneliness; the report
finds that, amongst older people, it may be linked to depression, increased nursing home admission,
decreased quality of life and cognitive decline, and argues that it may be tackled by health and social
policies

This report provides a thematic analysis and evaluation of Serious Adverse Incidents (SAIs) relating to
patients with a fall resulting in moderate to severe harm. It advises Trusts of a new process for a timely
debrief of the incident to ensure local application of learning and report into the Regional Falls Group

Freedom of the City for Belfast Nurses
Belfast City Council is to award the Freedom of the City of Belfast to nurses who have worked or
trained in Belfast at an event to be held on Wednesday 25 May at Belfast City Hall. To celebrate this
occasion, a number of places for the gala event will be allocated to nurses via a ballot to be drawn by
the Lord Mayor of Belfast at the end of April. If you wish to have the opportunity to attend the event
you must participate in the allocation process by completing an application form. Applicants will have
an opportunity to nominate a guest to accompany them to the event but the nominated guest must

This project overseen by a steering group appointed by BMA Council was launched in November 2014.
It aimed to examine both the public and medical professionals' attitudes on aspects of end-of-life care
