UNDERGRADUATE DEGREE PROGRAMMES
All of our 4-year programmes - Finance, Marketing,
Accounting and BA/Management offer a flexible
degree structure that enables the students to build up
a broad knowledge base and also to specialise in an
area that particularly interests them. The organization
of the educational process and the teaching methods
conform to the ones applied in the leading universities
in Western Europe and USA.
What can you expect in your first 2 years?
During the first and second year students take the core courses which build their
basic economic knowledge in the fields of Macro- and Micro Economics, Maths,
Informatics, Statistics, Accounting, Basics of Management, Marketing, Sociology of
Economy, Organisational Behaviour, Basics of Law.

Students are supposed to cover during the first
four semesters 120 credits from all subjects in the
curricula - 20 subjects.
From the fifth semester begins the specialization.

UNDERGRADUATE DEGREE PROGRAMMES
What happens next - your 3-rd and 4-th year?
From the 5-th semester begins the specialization in four business knowledge fields:
FINANCE
ACCOUNTING
MARKETING
BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION / MANAGEMENT
After the 6-th semester every full-time student takes a 45-days placement in
a company operating on the Bulgarian market. This is concentrated learning
experience designed to consolidate critical analytical skills and to deveop
reflective learning and interdisciplinary perspectives.
The placement aims to integrate the students into a work environment and
provide them with experience of work place structures and demands.
The 4-th year finishes with a written state exam and the total credit amount for
the Bachelor’s degree programme is 240.

MASTER’S DEGREE PROGRAMMES
The Faculty offers 4 major Master’s degree programmes which cover the main
demand for business education in the contemporary society.
Master’s Degree in Finance
The financial degree focuses on the knowledge and skills required for the efficient
management of a company’s finance resources. The students will study modules
examining how firms raise and utilize finance in the short, medium and long-term
perspective, together with the financial opportunities provided by the global
financial market. The subjects to be covered are Financial Engineering, Bank
Management, Financial Control and Auditing, Public Finance Management, Financial
Strategies of RU, Business Games etc.
Master’s Degree in Accounting
The accounting degree is designed to help the students develop the techniques and
skills needed by accountants in the business and public sector. In addition to
studying core modules covering financial and management accounting, the students
learn a range of subjects including Taxation Law, Financial Control and Auditing
Standarts, as well as accounting for different sectors of the economy: insurance,
transport, agriculture.

MASTER’S DEGREE PROGRAMMES
Master’s Degree in Marketing
Marketing is a growth subject area at the Faculty of Business Studies at Burgas Free
University. The Master’s Degree curriculum offers the students a great opportunity
to acquire a wide range of managerial knowledge and skills in the field of Consumers
Goods Marketing, Services Marketing, B2B Marketing, Web-Relationship Marketing,
Management Games and Simulations, Multimedia and Computer Animation,
Marketing Management etc.
Master’s Degree in BA/Management
The BA/Management degree curriculum is designed to provide the students with the
general skills required to maximise their potential as a manager.
The course combines theory and practice and during the study a range of important
management issues and problems will be taskled by simulating business situations
in operations, Human Resource Management, Finance etc. Among the subjects are
Financial Management, Operations Management, Strategic Marketing, Investment
Management and Financial Engineering.

CAREER PROSPECTS
After graduation our students find employment in at management level within
the industry or commerce, services sector - banking, insurance, transport, tourism
and travel sector, public sector services and local and central administration.

ACADEMIC STAFF
The academic staff of the Faculty of Business Studies includes 30 lecturers and
assistants in all teaching subjects. A big part of our lecturers took part in different
upgrading cources and training in other countries and have been visiting lecturers
in other universities. Every year the Faculty welcomes visiting professors from our
partner universities in Germany, UK, Portugal, Spain, Turkey etc.
As the modern business world requires sophisticated thinking, confident decision
making and cutting edge performance, the Faculty for Business Studies is striving
to produce graduates with exactly those qualities and to help them excel in their
chosen careers. Our programmes and academic staff don’t focus purely on academic
theory - though that’s obviously a crucial part of studying with us - you’ll be putting
what you learn into practice with practical work - course projects, assignments,
applied tasks, seminars.

INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION
The Faculty of Business Studies has signed
agreements for cooperation and has been working on
joint projects together with universities such as the
University of Barcelona, The University of Liverpool,
The Technical University in Chemnitz - Germany,
Sheffield Hallam University in UK, The University
College Cork in Ireland, the Finance Academy under
the Government of the Russian Federation in
Moscow, and Trakya University in Edirne, Turkey.
The lecturers and assistants of Faculty of Business
Studies participate regularly in scientific conferences
of the partner institutions.
The academic staff of FBS was involved during the
last 15 years in a big variety of international projects
over the schemes of TEMPUS, PHARE, ACE PHARE,
Research Support Scheme, Leonardo da Vinci,
6-th and 7-th Frameworks programmes of EC.
The Faculty of Business Studies is well-regarded
for the academic quality and practical emphasis
of the business and management courses it offers
and on that reason it is a long-term partner of
the Bulgarian branches of many big international
companies like Mercedes, Citroen, Toyota, Shell,
Danone, OMV, Procter& Gamble, Henkel, Metro,
Kaufland, Societe Generale Expressbank and others.

ERASMUS EXCHANGE
The Faculty has Erasmus exchange with
the University of West Schottland
(Paisley, Schottland), the Polytechnic in
Beja (Portugal), the Technical University
in Chemnitz- Germany, the University
in Tartu-Estonia and the High School for
Business in Prague. Since this year the
Faculty has signed an agreement for
teachers’ and students’ exchange with
Hallich University in Istanbul.
The majority of the academic staff
visited as lecturers the partner
institutions and a lot of foreign
professors had lectures in the Faculty
for Business Studies.
Many students take the opportunity
to go on exchange in these universities
and have added new knowledge in their
learning fields but in addition a new
intercultural experience as well.

RESEARCH ACTIVITIES
Our academic staff is very active
in the field of research and
scientific activities. The subjects
of the research projects are all
important problems and aspects
of contemporary regional,
national and global markets.
We enjoy close research and educational links with other universities in Bulgaria
and Europe.
Every year the Faculty of Business Studies organizes
and hosts a big international conference on
different financial, marketing and other managerial
problems and challenges which the managers at
different levels are facing. Papers and research notes
have been presented by academics and researchers
from Germany, UK, Turkey, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus
and all Bulgarian Universities and Business Schools.

ACADEMIC SERVICES AND FACILITIES
We at Burgas Free University and the Faculty of Business Studies are proud of our
supportive academic community and the variety of resources on offer to our
students. Studing at university level requires the students to manage their time
effectively and take responsibility for their studies.
A full range of resources and services are available to help the students to improve
their study methods. The students have at their disposal a rich library, well equipped
study rooms with state-of-the arts PCs and free Internet access.
For the international students the University offers intensive courses in Bulgarian
before the start of the academic year.
