Perspectives
Dennis Salerno
Salerno Motors, Inc.
Salerno Motors on Ellicott
Road is a family owned and
operated automotive repair
shop. We will enter our 60th
year in business next year!
When my father opened the
doors to our business in
1954, I’m sure he had no
idea where the automotive
repair business would be 60
years later. The technological changes alone are
enough to make your head spin. I’m proud to say that we’re
adapting constantly at Salerno Motors. We have the tools and
resources needed to repair today’s high tech marvels. I once read
that the automotive computer has more computing power than the
Apollo Lunar Landing Module. That article was written in 1981!
Today, many vehicles are operating with five or six computers.
Keeping up isn’t easy but is imperative if you want to compete in
this ever-changing market.
Keeping up with change is difficult. That’s where I believe the
Chamber is beneficial. With the many changes in government
regulations, a simple call to the Chamber will get you the answer
you need in a clear, concise manner. They do so much of the leg
work for you. You will be amazed at the information you can
gather from Nancy, Dawn or Penny.
They can provide
information on the impact of Obamacare on your business or tell
you what kind of food will be served at the Taste of Orchard Park!
Utilize the Chamber’s website as well. It offers a virtual road map
to the benefits, events and businesses in Orchard Park and the
surrounding area.
Come out and take advantage of some of the social events. Mixers
(one of my favorites!) are a great way to make contacts and talk
with business people who have similar concerns while you eat,
drink a little and have a good time. You also won’t want to miss
the Taste of Orchard Park on July 24th… it’s expected to be one of
the largest ever!
As one of the newest members of the Board of Directors, I am
truly proud and excited to see what impact I can have on the future
of Orchard Park. But as you know, it takes everyone’s
participation to make our community prosper!
Vol. 30, No. 7 ▪ July 2013
“Taste” Kicks Off Busy Weekend
Quaker Days, Orchard Park’s most anticipated celebration, is just
three weeks away! It features the Chamber’s 9th Annual Taste of
Orchard Park on Wednesday, July 24th. To date, 33 food vendors
have registered to participate, providing a variety of treats that are
sure to be crowd pleasers.
North Buffalo Street will be closed between the Four Corners and
NOCO for this exciting event, which runs from 6-10 p.m. Savor
the flavors and musical sounds of the Kokomo Time Band as you
sample the mouth-watering specialties. See the enclosed flier for
more details. It’s not too late to show your support for the Taste of
Orchard Park with a Bronze sponsorship ($100). Call the
Chamber office to learn more.
There are many other activities and events occurring throughout
the week of Quaker Days, including the annual Ice Cream Social
hosted by the Village at the Depot on Friday from 7-9 p.m.,
followed by fireworks. Saturday, the Lions Club Classic Car
Show cruises into the Village at 11 a.m., when North Buffalo
Street will again be closed for the display of vehicles. Festivities
conclude Saturday night when the Village presents the Street
Dance behind the Library from 7:30-11:30 p.m. Boys of Summer
will perform. For a list of activities and events throughout the
Quaker Days celebration, visit QuakerDays.org. Plan to reserve
the week for these enjoyable community events!

during the Taste of Orchard Park?

We are pleased to announce that Lake Shore Savings Bank, 3111 Union Road, is the recipient
of the June Business Community Beautification Award. The Selection Committee, chaired by
Joe Wales of W.G. Arthur Co., has
chosen this property to recognize
its enhancement of our business
community and to acknowledge it
as an asset to Orchard Park.
The building, located at the
northern entrance to Orchard Park,
recently received a facelift. Major
renovations include updating all
columns and accent lighting,
constructing a tower over the
entrance and updating the drivethru roof line. Professional
landscaping along the front of the
building added the finishing touch.
The Chamber applauds Lake Shore Savings Bank for their significant investment in and
commitment to our community. If you would like to nominate a business that has made
physical improvements to its facility, submit their name and address to the Orchard Park
Chamber of Commerce. The next award will be presented in September.

Our 22 Annual Golf Outing, held at Orchard Park Country Club
on June 3rd, was a huge success. Zebb’s Deluxe Grill & Bar
served mouth-watering burgers, hot dogs, salads, brownies and
their ever-popular chocolate chip cookies before the shotgun start.
An open bar and steak dinner followed a challenging round of
golf.
Golfers were treated to chair massages by MarilsHands and a
hospitality area stocked with beverages, candy and snacks, as well
as pizza from Cappelli’s Pizzeria and barbecue pork sliders
courtesy of Armor Inn Tap Room. Beverage carts made the
rounds throughout the day as well, stocked with beverages
donated by Certo Bros.

Chamber Scholarships Are Awarded
Academy of Finance Scholarship
Each year, the Chamber awards a $1,000
scholarship to a graduating senior in the
Academy of Finance, recognizing academic
excellence, leadership and service to the school
and community. Through involvement in a
hands-on business curriculum, the Academy of
Finance introduces students to career
opportunities available in the ever-changing
financial services industry.
Jim Wilson, former Chamber Board member,
presented the scholarship to Katherine Filipski.
Her academic success, involvement in school
activities and willingness to help others made
her the selection committee’s choice.

Byron Brown’s office in Buffalo; and Bald for Bucks, benefitting Roswell Cancer Institute
helped her develop new skills, make social connections, gain new perspectives and develop
and grow as a person. We wish her well as she continues her studies at Niagara University.
