HELP FOR THE HOMELESS TODAY!
Each day, the Garden Ministry of St. John’s Church
(downtown) provides a sandwich and water to over 200
homeless people who live in the alleys and on the streets of
downtown Indy. We (Holy Spirit) would like to provide cookies
to this ministry (to be given to the homeless people along with
the sandwich and water).
If you would like to donate cookies (either
store-bought or homemade), please place
them on the tables, (in a plastic bag), in
either the east or west vestibules following
all Masses this weekend. Thanks so much
for your support!
Dear Friends of Holy Spirit,
Thank you for your warm welcome to Fr. Savio who
joined us from the Diocese of Jackson, Mississippi, this
past weekend. As he was leaving to go back to Jackson,
he shared with me, that in his many years of doing mission appeals in over 40 states, he has never experienced
a parish that was more welcoming. He sensed that Holy
Spirit was a strong community where people cared about
each other. Fr. Savio also experienced a real depth of
faith among the people here at Holy Spirit. ‘Thank You’
to each of you, especially those who went out of their
way to help his time here be enjoyable.
You might wonder, “What did we do that created this
positive impression?” We are rarely aware of how much
simple gestures can influence another person. When we
smile, when we greet another with a warm hug or a
strong handshake, when we say positive things to another about them or their family, when we offer to pray
for someone, when we give the sign of peace at Mass
with meaning and sincerity… all these make a difference
when they are witnessed by another who is searching
for God and community.
Sometimes our announcements at Mass also tell a
story. This weekend we asked for cookies for the homeless, for participation in the Life Chain for the unborn, for
volunteers for our Confirmation kids and attendance at a
memorial Mass for Fr. Munshower’s brother. We offered
to the people flu shots and Knights of Columbus breakfast!! These announcements describe what it means to
be a Christian community… think about it!!
Fall Break is this coming week for our school children.
In the changed schedule, our students receive a full
week on the Fall and a full week in the Spring. Say a
prayer that the week will be a fruitful break for students
and teachers!
God’s Blessings and Love,
Fr. Paul

FUN, FUN, FUN!
We will be kicking off Youth Ministry this Fall with a
Bonfire and a Haunted House Trip on Saturday, October
24th! From 5:00-6:30, we will be having a bonfire in the
Rose Garden for any high school teen interested in joining
us. We will have stuff for s’mores, hot dogs, and drinks.
Around 6:30, we will begin to clean up before we leave
and go to Hanna Haunted Acres.
Around 6:30, we will carpool and leave to go to Hanna
Haunted Acres. So if you like haunted houses, make sure
to bring about $30, which will allow you to purchase a
combo ticket for their haunted houses. If you are like me,
and don’t like being scared for fun, you are welcome to
hang out by the bonfire while everyone else runs through
haunted mazes and attractions.
The permission slip for this event is
in on our Youth Ministry Events page
(our website) and also in the parish
office with Quenia. I would like to
have all permission slips returned
no later than October 18 so that I
am able to secure enough transportation. Please let me
know if you have any questions. 353-9404, ext. 7

Padre Douglas has informed us that the
school band in Guinope, Honduras is in need of 2
trumpets. Music is a big part of their culture and so
any donation for musical instruments is truly appreciated. Padre Douglas has transferred to this new parish
in Guinope. If you have a used trumpet that you can
donate or know how to obtain one, please call John
Evans at: 201-4086. !Muchas Gracias!
Thank you, parishioners, for your generous donations last weekend for the Diocese of Jackson, Mississippi. We were
able to raise $4,701.12 for this impoverished diocese in
Mississippi! Your donations will help families
provide basic food needs and an education,
in an effort to break the cycle of poverty.
God Bless!
SUBSTANCE ADDICTION MINISTRY (SAM)
For at least three reasons, people who drink heavily often
do not realize how tired they are. The reasons are three
characteristics of alcohol: 1) It’s full of calories, which give
instant energy; 2) it numbs the central nervous system, so
that one cannot fully feel body discomfort; 3) after its anesthetic effect wears off, it produces agitation that feels like
nervous energy.
After we stop drinking, the agitating effect may persist for
a while, leading to jumpiness & insomnia. Or we may suddenly become aware of our fatigue and so feel worn-out &
lethargic. Or the two conditions may alternate.
Either is a normal reaction that thousands of us have had
at the very beginning of our sobriety. Both wear off sooner or
later and need not cause any alarm. But it is very important
to get plenty of rest when we stop drinking, because the notion of having a drink seems to arrive from nowhere with
greater ease when we are tired.

will be held on WEDNESDAY, October 14th at 7
PM at the Council. We have switched the meeting
from the second Tuesday of the month to the second Wednesday of the month. We hope to see you

My Heavenly Father,
You are great and holy. I am weak and needy. I need your
strength, Lord, for mine is gone. Pour your healing oil over
me. Let it flow from the top of my head to the bottom of my
feet. As my body detoxifies, may the anointing of Jesus
cover and protect me. Lead me into a small activity that will
keep me busy helping someone else, and take my mind off
of myself. As I do for others in your name, Lord, blanket me
with your healing. I ask this with a penitent Heart. I thank
you, my Heavenly Father. I ask this in your Son’s holy name.
Jesus, Amen.

Autor: Su santidad Juan Pablo II
Oh Virgen María, Salud de los
enfermos, que has acompañado a

MINISTERIO JUVENIL
DEL ESPÍRITU SANTO
Directora de Pastoral juvenil, Familiar,
adolecentes y confirmaciones
Mary Kate Shanahan
[email protected]
Empezaremos nuestro programa del
ministerio de los jóvenes con una
hoguera y viaje a Hanna Haunted Acres
s’mores, hot dogs y refrescos. Cerca de
6:30 necesitamos limpiar el jardín y
preparar a salir a Hanna Haunted Acres
como un grupo.
Si le gusta las casas encantadas
embrujadas, necesita $30 para comprar
su boleto combo. Para mí, no me gusta
las casas encantadas embrujadas o sentir
miedo, y me voy a sentar alrededor del
hoguera allá. Y por los que quieren
visitar a las casas, puedan visitarlas.
La inscripción es en nuestro sitio web
abajo de la página se llama Youth
Ministry Events y también en la oficina
parroquial. Las inscripciones son
debidas el 18 de octubre porque yo
necesito segurar transportación por
todos. Dime si hay preguntas.
Próximo Domingo será el
DOMINGO MUNDIAL DE LAS
MISIONES
