Radiodiffusion haïtienne à Miami :
y a-t-il ‘complot’ contre la qualité ?

Dans le monde de la radiodiffusion haïtienne à
Miami, ce ne sont pas toujours les plus professionnels, ni les plus positifs qui réussissent ‘financièrement’ le mieux, mais ceux qui ont le tempérament
fonceur et débrouillard, ou encore qui soient capables
de tout faire (même se faire virer par de petits entrepreneurs sans scrupules pour des publicités peu
rentables ). C'est un véritable combat au quotidien
pour bon nombre de professionnels qui essaient de
maintenir une présence constante sur les ondes dans
ce monde à l'envers.
S'il faut reconnaître que le monde de la radiodiffusion haïtienne à Miami a connu une certaine évolution ces dernières années avec la présence sur les
ondes de quelques professionnels du micro (venus en
majorité d'Haïti après les événements politiques
début 2000), toujours est-il que plusieurs d'entre eux
ont essuyé de sérieux échecs. Ils n’arrivent pas à
maîtriser le concept “PPP’. Ce qui signifie “Peye Pou
w Pale!” dans le jargon haïtien.

monthly event A Conversation
With… Well known to many of our
readers, this event is hosted by the
Northeast
Second
Avenue
Partnership (NE2P), Purforce Group,
and the Little Haiti Cultural Center,
and is a professional networking and
educational
event.
Indeed,
Conversations With… aims to provide an atmosphere in which successful Haitian and Haitian
Americans share their stories of success - offering advice along the way and allows young professional leaders with the opportunity to network
for business and social purposes that
affect the Haitian community be it in
Little Haiti, Miami, South Florida,
Haiti, or elsewhere.
Each month a guest is invited to
speak about various topics affecting
the Haitian Diaspora in South
Florida. The guest speaker is encouraged to utilize French and Haitian
Creole, and to interact with - that is,
have a conversation with - the audience. Previous topics have included
balancing Haitian Culture in
America; words of wisdom to the
emerging leaders in the Haitian
American community; and expressing Haitian pride in spoken word.
Previous speakers have included Dr
Smith Joseph (North Miami Mayor),
Mecca AKA Grimo (Author and
Poet), Evelyn Pierre (Haitian
Heritage Museum), DJ Griot (99
Jamz), and Andre Pierre (Former
North Miami Mayor), to name a few.
Mr. Guillaume is no stranger to the
Diaspora in Miami. Indeed, from
2007 to 2012 Mr. Guillaume served
as the Executive Director of the
Haitian-American Chamber of
Commerce of Florida (HACCOF).
More recently from December 2011
to April 2014, Mr. Guillaume served
as the Consul General of the
Republic of Haiti in Miami. Mr.
Guillaume spoke mostly about his
experience from appointment as the
Minister of Haitians Living Abroad
of the Republic of Haiti, and the
importance of the Diaspora in shaping the future of Haiti. Focusing on
how the Haitian Diaspora can have
increased involvement in the government of Haiti, as well as the economic development of the country, Mr.
Guillaume concluded, "Haiti's true
potential has not yet been realized.
The diaspora doesn't just 'go to Haiti
to visit' but to really make something
out of it. The Diaspora is crucial to
Haiti's future." After his initial dialogue, Mr. Guillaume took many
insightful and poignant questions
from the audience. Afterwards, people enjoyed the evening in the
Caribbean Marketplace sampling
delicious local catering and dancing
to Haitian music provided by DJ Big
Ben. Upon leaving, many from the
audience shared that they were
extremely pleased to have the opportunity to engage with Mr. Guillaume
in such an intimate setting.
The objectives of A Conversation
With… are many. First and foremost,
the founders of the event seek to educate and enhance the knowledge,
issues, and current events of or in the
Haitian community, especially Little
Haiti where the event takes place.
Along these lines, A Conversation
With… is exactly that - a conversation. The founders strategically create an intimate and open atmosphere
that encourages an open exchange of
dialogue with the hopes that sharing
of ideas, information, approaches,
and problem solving will be had.
Lastly, A Conversations With… finds
its home in Little Haiti. As such, the
event acts as a main source of information of preserving the cultural
identity of Little Haiti for Haitian
and Haitian American professionals,
and other invested community members.
A Conversation With… is held the
second Friday of every month at the
Little Haiti Cultural Center. The next
installment is scheduled for May 8th
at 7pm. This month's guest speaker
will be internationally renowned
artist Edouard Duval Carrie who has
exhibited in many countries.

Haitian Cultural Heritage Month kicks off on May 1
(MIAMI-DADE, FL) - Miami-Dade County
Commission Chairman Jean Monestime is inviting
the community to experience the wonders of
Haitian culture and cuisine during the County's
15th Annual Haitian Heritage Cultural Month celebrations
The theme of this year's festivities - which will
showcase the art, history, music and food of Haiti
throughout the month of May - is "Haiti: Witness
the Renaissance, Relive the Magic."
The celebrations will kick off on May 1 with the
opening of several exhibits of Haitian art around
Miami-Dade County. The art displays will be at
PortMiami, 1015 N. American Way; Stephen P.
Clark Government Center, 111 NW 1st Street; the
Little Haiti Cultural Center, 212-260 NE 59th
Street; the Center for Haitian Studies, 8260 NE 2nd
Avenue; the Haitian Heritage Museum, 4141 NE

“The prosecutor in Port au Prince was
removed because the government was
not satisfied with the performance at the
trial,” Peguy Jean, spokesman for the
Ministry of Justice said on Monday. “At
the end of the trial, the prosecutors
asked the charges to be dropped.”
(Reuters) – The Obama administration
said it was “concerned” about the speed
of a court ruling in Haiti that saw
charges suddenly dropped in the indictment of an accused kidnapper with
close ties to the family of President
Michel Martelly.
On Friday, the judge freed Woodly
Ethéart and Renel Nelfort, two leaders
of the so-called Galil Gang, who had
been indicted a month earlier for masterminding a host of violent crimes, including murder, money laundering and
more than a dozen kidnappings.
Two days later, the Minister of Justice
sacked the prosecutor, saying his
deputies asked the judge to free the men,
arguing they could not win a conviction.
“We are concerned about the ruling,
including the speed in which it was
made,” a State Department spokesman
said in an email on Monday in response
to a request for comment.
“This is an ongoing case in the Haitian
courts, and we understand the ruling
could be appealed.

Galil Gang,” said Saint-Juste, an outspoken critic of the Martelly government.
Martelly’s spokesman did not respond to
a request for comment.
The Ministry of Justice has until
Tuesday to appeal the tossed indictment.
If no appeal is filed, government critics
say it will be a sign the Ministry of
Justice is doing favors for the president.

remarks follow last week’s
announcement that the Bahamas will
deport almost 300 Haitian nationals,
a further sign of Bahamas’ tough
immigration policy.
“Instead of spending money on ports,
roads or airports, we have to spend
on trying to deport illegal immigrants
to their homes,” he said.
In November 2014, Bahamian legislators passed a controversial immigration law which requires legal
immigrants to walk with their passports at all times.
It also states that the government
would not issue work or other permits for undocumented migrants.
At the time, the law was criticized
internationally as being xenophobic
and discriminatory towards a people
from the poorest country in the hemisphere.
According to the United Nations
International Organisation for
Migration (IOM), about 5,000 registered Haitian migrant workers are in
the country, supporting 13,000
dependent family members.

A few Caribbean islands have large
Haitian
populations.
In
the
Commonwealth of Dominica for
example, the Haitian-born nationals
are the main migrant population.
There is also a Haitian-Dominica
Friendship Association.
While some countries have offered
levels of protection to Haitian nation-

in the Bahamas.
The latest announcement by the
Bahamian Minister of Immigration
has once again thrust the plight of
Haitians back into the spotlight. The
Bahamian government has continuously denied allegations that the
country’s legislation targets Haitians.

How will my divorce affect my immigration status?
If you are going
through a divorce and
you are not a United
States citizen, your
divorce may affect
your immigration case
in many different
ways.
A green card is evidence of a person's

States. If you obtained
a green card through your spouse, then you may
have received a conditional residence.
Immigrants are given conditional residence
when they apply for a green card during the first
two years of marriage. A conditional green card
is valid only for two years. If you applied for
your green card in the first two years of marriage,
then you have to petition the United States
Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) to
remove the conditions on your green card within
ninety days before it expires. If USCIS grants
the petition, then you will receive permanent residence in the United States and USCIS will send
you a green card that expires in ten years.
So what happens if you separate or divorce
before you receive your permanent residency?
This is where things get tricky. Normally,
USCIS wants you to file the petition to remove
the conditions on your residency together with
your spouse. But if you are in the process of a
divorce or have already divorced, you will have
to file the petition to remove the conditions on
your residency alone and prove to immigration
that you were in a valid marriage.
If you are in the United States because your
spouse got a visa to work, go to school, or open
a business, then you are a dependent of your
spouse. If you get divorced from that spouse
while you are in the United States, you will
become ineligible to renew your visa when the
time comes around. In fact, you become ineligible for your visa the moment that your divorce is
finalized.
So what can you do to protect your immigration
status? If you are thinking about getting a
divorce from your spouse, it is important that
you first discuss your immigration and divorce
plans with an attorney. It is possible that you
may qualify for the same visa or another type of
visa on your own. For example, you may be able
to stay in the United States to go to school. If
you are working, your employer may be able to
file a petition for a work visa for you. If you
have family in the United States, you may be
able to file a petition for a family visa. If any of
these options work for you, then part of your
divorce negotiation needs to include a discussion
of when to finalize your divorce so that you have
time to change your immigration status. If there
are no other options for you to stay in the United
States, you will need time to create a plan to
return to your country. In the meantime, your
divorce attorney can negotiate to finalize the
divorce at a time that is convenient for
you.
Another common issue that comes up
during divorce is child support.
Generally, when two people have a child
under the age of 18 together, a child support order will be entered in the case.
The child support order requires one
parent to pay the other parent a monthly

has filed legal papers in
which she said she had notified the "Tuesday" rapper of
her daughter and he agreed
to take a paternity test.
The court papers allegedly
stated that Drake "is VOLUNTARILY paying the
woman $15,000 a month in

According to the site, the
love child's mother is "a
BLACK woman who is
BROWN skinned."
Hollywood Life reports he
volunteered to pay the baby's
mother this amount of
money without even know-
ing with 100 percent certainty that he's the dad. This is
interesting
information
because this is not the only
time he's been accused of
fathering someone's child.
But Gossip Cop was quick to
come up with a denial to the
rumor. The site cited its own
source close to Drake that
there's "no truth" to the story.
This isn't the first time Drake
was reported to have
fathered a child. Back in
2014, a Florida woman
named Shirdkevia Myrick
came forward and said her
son was Drake's child. She
shared on Instagram and
Facebook a photo of her son
side-by-side with a photo of
the rapper as a baby. "He
can't deny it. F**k what the
media say," she captioned
the photo. However, after the
picture
went
viral,
Shirdkevia deleted all her
social media profiles.
If this is true, then who else
is going to be outed for having secret children? This
news comes just weeks after
Chris Brown was exposed as
the father of a 10-month-old
baby girl named Royalty.
The controversy caused such
a blow-back that his onagain-off-again girlfriend,
Karrueche Tran, called off
their relationship on Twitter,
declaring that she didn't want
any "baby drama." Luckily
for Drake, he doesn't have
the same kind of relationship

unpaid child support, you will need to resolve the
issue before becoming a citizen. Having unpaid
child support may affect other aspects of your
immigration case because the government generally has the discretion to grant applications or
deny applications. Having unpaid child support
may cause the government to deny an application
that you have filed for immigration status. For
this reason, it is extremely important to be keep
track of all child support payments made and to
verify with the Child Support Enforcement

Consul Gilles Attends the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
for the HANA Fourth Annual Leadership Convention
MIAMI (LF) -- On April 9th and 10th,
the
Haitian
American
Nurses
Association of Florida hosted its fourth
annual Leadership Convention in partnership with Miami Dade College BSN
Program Honor Society at MDC
Wolfson Campus, Chapman Center, in
downtown Miami. It is a convention
that helps to highlight the importance
and value of strong leadership within
the community and to provide information and support to those individuals
aiming to serve their communities in the
medical profession.
The Chief of Mission of the Consulate
General of Haiti in Miami, Consul
Stephane Gilles, took part in the ribbon
cutting ceremony around 9am on April
9, 2015, that kicked off the two-day
leadership convention, which included
lectures and abstract presentations. A
pre-convention press conference was
held earlier around 8:30 a.m.
Addressing the impressive gathering,
Mr. Gilles told the crowd of ambitious
nurses and students, "On behalf of
President Michel Joseph Martelly,
Prime Minister Evans Paul and the First
Lady Sophia Martelly, it is such an
honor for me to be here to witness such
a great moment. H.A.N.A. has been
working for decades to better the lives
of thousands of people throughout
South Florida, Haiti, and abroad.
H.A.N.A. is known for their professionalism and most of all their dedication to
raising awareness to the importance of
healthcare and wellness in our community. I would like to also take this time
to welcome the nurses that have traveled here from Haiti to join us today.”
He added, "Throughout the years,
HANA has shown that they are committed to cultivating nurse leaders and
brought more energy and information to
the attendees and highlights the value of
remaining committed and engaged to
the communities that surround each and
every one of us.
On Saturday April 11, 2015, the organization celebrated its 31st Annual
Scholarship Fundraising and Awards
Gala at the JW Marriott's ballwoom in
Miami. The theme was "HANA:
Cultivating Nurse Leaders & Touching
Lives though Caring, Service and
Excellence, symbolizes the spirit of professionalism and collaboration."

Family and Friends Honor Victims of Fort Pierce Church Van Tragedy
FORT PIERECE (LF) -- The Harvert
L. Fenn Center was home to hundreds
of mourners on April 18, 2015 who
gathered to pay their last respects to
those members of the Independent
Haitian Assembly of God Church in
Fort Pierce who died nearly three
weeks earlier when the church van carrying 18 plunged into a shallow waterfilled ditcha canal -upon return from a
revival in Fort Myers.
According to The Florida Highway
Patrol, the accident happened around
12:30 Monday morning (March 30) at
a dark intersection on SR 78 U.S.
Highway 27 in on and US 27 in
Glades County.
Some of the victims of the crash were
the oldest members of the church,
many of whom helped to build it from
the ground up. The victims included
driver, 58 year old Volsaint Marsaille,
Servilus Dieudonne, 71, Jude PetitFrere, 66, and his 58-year-old wife,
Obernise Petit-Frere, Dazilia Joseph,
79, Madeleine William, 63, Wanie
Larose, 60, and Lifaite Lochard, 58.

saying, "Today is a sad day. We share
and we feel the pain. Because every
time we lost a brother or a sister, it is a
part of us who is gone as well …
"The nature of these kinds of events
show us how frail life is, how life is
important, and how each day on earth
counts. That is why it is important to
show love, affection to people close to
you every day, because we do not
know how tomorrow will be. "
In closing, Stephane Gilles said,
"Througout my voice, President
Martelly wants you to know and
reminds you, the government is here
for you. In good times and bad."
The cause of the accident remains
under investigation, but authorities
have stated that overloading certain
passengers vans can impact stability
but have stopped short as of yet of
pointing to that as being a potential
cause of the crash.
The Haitian community throughout
South Florida has been devastated by
this tragedy, but they remain a resilient
and strong group of men, women, and
children who unite to become even
stronger in the midst of tragedy.

"My name is Billy (The
Shark) Bowers. I was born
in Sendai (Japan) while my
father, an American officer,
was assigned over there. We
lived in Japan for 2 years
before moving to the United
States. Being half-Japanese
and short of stature, I faced
many obstacles living in the
States. The main one was
being bullied by my peers as
I grew up, which had led me
to become an outcast.
Worse, after being bullied at
school, I always feared to
incur my father's wrath
because, according to him, I
should never lose a fight and
come home crying. This led
to my father terrorizing me.
"Outside I was bullied,
inside I was terrorized. I
hated my life. I was struggling with depression and
rejection. I had all kinds of
self-destructive ideas, not
knowing at that time that I
had generational curses,
spiritual strongholds and
demons talking to me. From
that point, I fell into drugs
and alcohol for more than 40
years. I started to distribute
poisonous drugs to drug
dealers. This was my way of

100 charges in 11 different
States, and I spent over 10
years in jails and prisons by
destroying people's lives.
This, I believed, made me
one of the chief sinners on
the earth, but I didn't know
God had a plan for my life.
"Moreover, I had caught
HIV and for more than 20
years I expected to die from
AIDS. I was desperate and
became broken enough for
God's Word to be planted in
my heart. One day, God sent
me Sister Jennifer, one of his
faithful daughters. She invited me to Tabernacle of
Glory (TG) to have a relationship with Jesus. Today I
am glad I've accepted her
invitation, and I'm amazed at
the timing this invitation
was proposed to me. I didn't
realize the Holy Spirit was
doing a miracle through

Emeutes à Baltimore : «il n’y a aucune excuse» selon Obama

Premier président noir des Etats-Unis, il a exhorté
la police et la communauté noire américaines à
«l’introspection» après plusieurs faits divers où des
jeunes Noirs non armés ont été tués par des
policiers blancs, qui avaient provoqué des manifestations virant parfois aux émeutes.
De violentes émeutes ont éclaté dans la ville lundi
après l’inhumation d’un jeune homme noir, Freddie
Gray, 25 ans, mort quelques jours plus tôt dans des
circonstances encore inexpliquées alors qu’il avait
été arrêté par la police.
Militaires lourdement armés
Une enquête a été ouverte mais de nombreux habitants de la ville estiment qu’il ne s’agit que du
dernier exemple en date des brutalités policières
auxquelles ils sont régulièrement confrontés. Des
centaines de militaires de la Garde nationale lourdement armés et de policiers sillonnaient mardi les
rues de cette ville de 620.000 habitants, promettant
d’y ramener l’ordre.
Des manifestants s’étaient de nouveau rassemblés
dans la rue mardi à la mi-journée. Une vingtaine de
policiers ont été blessés depuis le début des incidents et environ 235 personnes ont été arrêtées. La
mairie a prévu l’instauration d’un couvre-feu à partir de mardi 22H00 locales (02H00 GMT mercredi)
et ce pour une semaine.
«Nous n’allons pas tolérer cette violence», a
déclaré au petit matin le gouverneur de l’Etat du
Maryland (est), Larry Hogan, à un point de contrôle
installé par la police, entouré d’hommes lourdement armés et en tenue anti-émeute.
«Nous travaillons pour être sûrs que ce qui s’est

passé la nuit dernière à Baltimore ne va pas se

Les émeutes ont contrasté avec le calme et la

faire en sorte que les choses reviennent à la normale», a expliqué une habitante, Maria Ray, gants
et balai en main, qui a pris une journée de congé
pour participer au nettoyage.

En dépit de leur bonne formation académique,
paradoxalement ils sont nombreux ces professionnels du micro qui n'ont pas eu du succès financier,
contrairement à certains autres animateurs qui n'ont
souvent aucune connaissance de base dans le
domaine de la radio. Raison : contrairement en
Haïti, ici en Floride du sud, la radio est payante.
C’est tout autre chose.
C'est un monde radiophonique très complexe à
Miami. À chacun(e) de se débrouiller pour trouver
de l'argent pour payer les heures d'antenne allouées.
Trouver de la publicité qui demeure l'unique moyen
de générer des revenus pour payer les heures d'antenne (entre 250 et 300 dollars pour une heure d'antenne en semaine), est un véritable parcours du
combattant. Il est d'autant plus difficile pour nos
hommes et femmes à la radio dans une communauté à faible moyen économique, où il existe des
entrepreneurs (disons de petits commerçants) qui
n'ont pas la culture d'allouer un budget à la publicité pour le bon fonctionnement de leur boîte. La
tâche est plus ardue pour ceux qui s'efforcent de
maintenir un niveau de professionnalisme sur les
ondes, ne voulant pas s'engouffrer dans cette médiocrité ambiante qui règne dans cette jungle, sauve
qui peut.
Les pratiques publicitaires dans le milieu ne tiennent aucun compte de l'élégance et de la parfaite
maîtrise du micro de l'animateur(trice). Fort souvent, tout ce qui intéresse le petit 'commerçant' ou
le soi-disant entrepreneur, c'est de trouver l'animateur(trice) sur les ondes qui soit capable de délivrer
son message publicitaire dans un jargon populiste
capable de faire venir à lui le pauvre client sans
capacité d'analyser ce message souvent truffé de
mensonges éhontés.
Un ancien animateur qui bossait dans le temps sur
la station WLQY 1320 AM, qui a longtemps abandonné cette carrière professionnelle, a récemment
fait part de sa déception, en racontant comment son
ami médecin l'avait un jour méchamment lancé en
plein visage une triste réalité, quelque chose qu'il
n'oubliera pas de sitôt. Alors que le médecin ami
l'avait toujours fait part de son admiration pour la
qualité de l'émission qu'il produisait à l'époque sur
les ondes, ce professionnel de la santé qu'il contacta un jour pour une publicité, n'était pas allé par
quatre chemins pour lui dire clairement qu'il n'aurait aucun problème de lui confier une publicité
pour sa clinique que néanmoins s'il pouvait seulement utiliser un langage comme l'animateur X
(dont nous conservons l'anonymat), car lui avouait
le médecin, le langage utilisé pour animer l'émission étant d’un niveau académique trop élevé pour
les patients qu'il (le médecin) recherchait, et ceci
pour diverses raisons.
"Se ti gran mounn ki gen medicaid map chache,
mounn sa yo pa konprann preske anyen nan sa wap
di yo nan radio a ! (Je suis à la recherche des personnes âgées qui bénéficient du programme
Medicaid, ces gens là ne comprennent absolument
rien dans ce que vous dites à la radio) ", se rappelle
amèrement ce professionnel de la radio. Et d'ajouter : "son point de vue est compréhensible en
qualité d'homme d'affaires, mais inacceptable la
façon dont il encourageait en quelque sorte la médiocrité. Me demander d'élocutionner comme l'animateur X, c'était un affront mêlé d'une certaine
stupéfaction qui me faisait comprendre à ce
moment là que cette communauté est condamnée à
évoluer dans la médiocrité, que les professionnels
du micro n'ont pas leur place dans le milieu et que
de nombreux hommes d'affaires qui savent lire et
écrire ne font qu'encourager cette situation éhontée
sur les ondes tant par leur action et leur mode de
pensée. "
De nombreux professionnels de la radio n'ont pas
pu malheureusement joindre les deux bouts dans le
milieu. Les deux plus récents cas sont ceux de
Phares Duverne et Ludner Plaisir, deux professionnels qui ont fini par se retirer en toute discrétion,

Phares Duverne est un journaliste de carrière doté
d'une culture générale et une bonne connaissance
des diverses thématiques qui lui permettent de bien
gérer le déroulement de son émission. Aussi doté
d'une bonne élocution, Ludner Plaisir qui popularise en quelque sorte l'expression "ancien jeune "
sur les ondes à Miami, est une encyclopédie
vivante de la musique haïtienne en générale, particulièrement le compas direct créé par l'immortel
saxophoniste Nemours Jean Baptiste.
Leur présence sur les ondes était de nature à faire
évoluer le niveau de la radiodiffusion haïtienne à
Miami. À l’écoute de ces personnalités à la radio,
on doit comprendre qu'ils sont en fait des professionnels qui prennent de longues heures à préparer
leur émission d'une heure d'horloge. Ils sont de
ceux-là qui prennent très au sérieux le métier de
présentateur/animateur radio aujourd'hui perçu par
certaines personnes comme un métier facile et très
banal. Aisance au micro, bonne humeur et culture
générale constituent les points forts de ces deux
personnalités susmentionnées et plusieurs autres
encore. Un peu dégoutés par le fonctionnement de
cette industrie, ils sont forcés de se retirer. Et
Personne ne semble être concerné par le vide laissé
sur les ondes par leur absence. On dirait qu'ils n'existent même pas.
Joint au téléphone, Phares Duverné qui a déménagé
à Orlando, est direct dans sa réponse à une question
pour savoir comment expliquer qu'un professionnel
comme lui n'a pas pu réussir 'financièrement' dans
le monde radiophonique haïtien à Miami. L'ancien
journaliste-présentateur à Radio Vision 2000 (Portau-Prince) répond pour dire : " dans cette communauté, il y a un complot contre la qualité. Faire de
la radio demande un minimum de professionnalisme. Pas question de m'abaisser au même niveau
que la majorité pour produire des émissions
médiocres. Je ne suis non plus du genre de personnes à me faire rouler dans la farine pour une publicité. J'ai fini par me rendre à l'évidence que ma place
n'est pas dans ce monde, donc je me retire."
Ludner Plaisir rencontré récemment à Port-auPrince semble n'avoir aucun regret d'avoir pris la
décision d'abandonner son émission payante sur les
ondes de la station WSRF 1580 AM. Il abonde
presque dans le même sens pour expliquer sa décision de se retirer.
Plaisir critique particulièrement les responsables de
la station haïtienne de North Miami Beach qui,
selon lui, priorisent la quantité et l'argent au détriment de la qualité, n'ayant fait aucune abnégation
pour son émission assez instructive où il plonge
souvent en archives dans l'univers du créateur
Nemours Jean Baptiste pour remonter dans le
temps avec ses auditeurs leur rappelant de bons
souvenirs de jeunesse.
" Outre les responsables de la radio qui n'ont montré aucune appréciation pour ce genre d'émission de
nature à augmenter le taux d'écoute de la station,
les commerçants eux aussi sont pour la plupart des
gens malhonnêtes qui n'hésitent pas à vous offrir
$200 mensuellement pour une publicité à auditionner dix à quinze fois durant les cinq jours opérationnels de la semaine. Le pire, c'est qu'ils (les
commerçants) peuvent vous faire revenir deux à
trois fois avant finalement de vous verser la
pitance. Et parfois le chèque est retourné pour
insuffisance de fonds, " confie-t-il.
"Certes, ça a été une décision personnelle d'aller
louer des heures d'antenne à la radio. Cependant
après plusieurs années passées à verser près $1250
par semaine, vu le manque d'appréciation pour la
qualité constatée dans le milieu, je croyais qu'il
était temps de me retirer, et ceci sans regret. Je ne
pouvais plus continuer à faire de la radio pour
seulement payer les factures des heures d'antenne,"
a déclaré l'ex-animateur de l'émission 'Plaisir
Ambiance' qui bosse joyeusement depuis plusieurs
mois sur la Radio Nationale d’Haïti à Port-auPrince, entre 2hr - 4hr en semaine.
À l'évidence, les 'propriétaires' des stations de radio
haïtiennes ne sont pas des animateurs, mais plutôt
des hommes d'affaires qui investissent leur argent
avec l'objectif de maximiser leur profit autant que
possible, l'ex-animateur de 'Plaisir Ambiance'
répond pour dire: "mon ami, je partage un peu ce
point de vue, cependant les agissements de ces 'propriétaires' de radio me font croire dur comme fer
que la notion de communauté n'existe pas pour eux.
Parfois, il faut faire abandon du bénéfice personnel
pour le bien communautaire. Un bon citoyen doit
contribuer à l'éducation des membres de sa communauté."
C’est un triste constat. La tendance générale dans le
monde de la radiodiffusion haïtienne à Miami est
de faire de la médiocrité la puissance dominante.
Malheureusement certains professionnels (disons
mieux, d'anciens professionnels) se laissent
entraîner dans cette voie pour produire des émissions poubelles juste pour le besoin de maintenir
une présence continue sur les ondes.
La frustration exprimée par nos confrères Phares
Duverné et Ludner Plaisir est compréhensible. S'ils
n'ont pas pu réussir 'financièrement' leur vie professionnelle dans le milieu, il faut cependant avouer
que malgré un contexte économique encore difficile et une industrie radiophonique haïtienne sans
presque aucune régulation, il existe encore sur les
ondes quelques professionnels bien formés. Bien
qu'ils soient en minorité, ils ont le mérite de naviguer dans le système pour continuer à faire carrière
tout en produisant des émissions de qualité.
Une vraie question à se poser : quand une personne
aussi compétente arrive à réussir dans un environnement difficile - sans compromettre son professionnalisme - là ou d'autres n'ont pas pu, que faitelle et qu’a-t-elle de différent qui fasse la différence
? Le leadership, la créativité, le tempérament de
challenger ?
En tout cas, il est dommage que ces deux hommes
soient forcés de se retirer des ondes. Car leur
présence était incontestablement un plus pour le
monde de la radiodiffusion haïtienne à Miami.
C’est un fait incontestable. Il en sera ainsi tant qu'il
n'y aura pas un changement de mentalité chez
l'homme haïtien pour apprécier et supporter la
qualité sur les ondes.

Le parcours modèle d'Adrien Castera
" Haïtien aimant son pays, il ne m'est
en effet pas difficile d'expliquer les
multiples raisons pour lesquelles la
banque centrale et le Group
Croissance ont fait choix de lui pour
recevoir ce grand honneur ", a
expliqué Karl Braun à propos
d'Adrien Castera, qui a débuté à la
Banque de Boston en mars 1974. Il
est l'exemple d'un homme qui a gravi
tous les échelons du système bancaire et financier haïtien, pour en
atteindre les plus hauts sommets.
Pour introduire Adrien Castera
comme membre au panthéon de la
finance haïtienne, il a eu droit à la
connaissance et la proximité de son
collègue et ami de longue date, Karl
Braun, lui-même doyen du panthéon
en 2011. L'homme, qui vient de fêter
ses 41 ans de carrière, a une vie remplie. Le P.D.G. de la Unibank
présente son ami comme banquier
chevronné, un homme affable, un
ami sincère, premier directeur
général et cofondateur de la première
banque d'Haïti : la UNIBANK.
Seulement neuf ans après son entrée
ainsi pendant trois ans une excellente
expérience internationale.
Décidé de revenir au pays pour continuer à exercer son métier de banquier, et après avoir passé plus de
douze ans à la Banque de Boston, il
rejoint la Banque nationale de Paris
(BNP) en tant que contrôleur de 1986
à 1989. " Comme vice-président-trésorier du conseil d'administration
d'alors, et cofondateur de la SOGEBANK (ancienne Banque Royale du
Canada), je lui fais en 1989 une offre,
qu'il accepte, pour rejoindre cette
institution d'abord comme directeur
de crédit, et ensuite comme directeur
général ", rappelle le patron de la
Unibank.

" un mémorable standing ovation " à
la hauteur de ses efforts et de son vaet-vient constant entre Haïti et
l'Amérique du Nord quand la UNIBANK lança en 1998 la UNITRANSFER. Finalement, en 2001,
pour mieux diriger la croissance des
opérations internationales de transferts de la Diaspora, M. Castera s'est
basé à Miami et y est resté pendant
14 ans, avant de revenir cette année,
chez lui en Haïti et à la UNIBANK,
où il continue à exercer ses fonctions
comme membre du conseil et du
comité exécutif.

Au Népal, les rescapés sans abri craignent l'émergence d'épidémies
Avec un système de traitement de l'eau
très endommagé, des cadavres en
décomposition sous les décombres et des
centaines de milliers de personnes sans
abri, le Népal est engagé dans une course
contre la montre pour éviter un désastre
sanitaire, selon les experts.

qu'avait connue Haïti après le séisme de
2010. Un contingent de Casques bleus
népalais avait été mis en cause mais
l'ONU n'a jamais reconnu sa responsabilité.
Selon lui, la situation est probablement
meilleure dans les villages qui ont accès
à des sources.
"Dans un environnement où l'hygiène est
mauvaise et les gens boivent de l'eau
d'une provenance douteuse, il y a toujours le risque de maladies provenant de
l'eau, de diarrhées et de maladies respiratoires", décrit à l'AFP Patrick Fuller,
porte-parole du Comité international de
la Croix-Rouge.
"Nous sommes déjà au sixième jour et
nous avons dit au gouvernement que
faute de mesure d'ici 48 à 72 heures à ce
sujet, il sera trop tard", met-il en garde.
Des milliers de personnes ont déjà passé
cinq nuits dans des tentes dans le froid à
Katmandou, sans accès à l'eau courante
et sans toilettes, contraintes de faire leurs
besoins dehors.
Des milliers de rescapés ont quitté la
capitale depuis le séisme d'une magnitude de 7,8 survenu samedi, pour rejoindre leur village en zone rurale, certains
inquiets de l'émergence d'épidémies.
Les craintes d'épidémies se répandent
dans les camps de rescapés qui revêtent
de façon croissante des masques chirurgicaux, tout comme l'a fait le Premier
ministre Sushil Koirala lors d'une visite
auprès de ces personnes.
Pour ceux qui restent, l'horizon est sombre, certaines familles s'entassant à 15
dans une tente et nombre de sinistrés se
plaignent des toilettes qui débordent
dans les camps provisoires qui ont éclos
sur les vastes étendues de Tundikhel et
Khula Manch.
"L'hygiène et l'approvisionnement en
eau sont une réelle préoccupation dans
ces camps", affirme le Dr Babu Ram
Marasini, de l'organisme de contrôle et
d'épidémiologie du pays.
"Nous appréhendons d'aller dans ces toilettes et il ne reste plus beaucoup de
place sur le reste du terrain", explique à

de paludisme ou d'autres maladies transmises par le moustique ne peut être exclu
non plus en raison de l'humidité",

Shahi, l'oncle de Gaurav Kalki, ressent la
même peur devant cette incertitude sur
l'avenir et les craintes d'épidémies que
lorsque la terre a tremblé.
"Je me demande ce que nous allons
devenir et combien de temps nous allons
devoir rester dehors", se désole-t-il.

il s'est mis à pleurer. Il a dit, je veux que
tout ça soit derrière moi, je veux que ça
finisse. Je crois qu'il était fatigué de
cavaler, et; médicalement, il est à un
point de sa vie où il a besoin d'aide ".

NBA : un Haïtien futur n°1 de la draft ?

Il s'apprête à jouer pour l'Université du Kentucky après le départ de 7 Wildcats vers la Draft.
À 19 ans, Skal Labissiere attire déjà le regard des scouts NBA.
MIAMI (Le Floridien) -- Entrer en NBA n'est pas
toujours chose facile pour les aspirants qui sont
chaque année plusieurs dizaines à s'inscrire à la draft
organisée à la fin du mois de juin, en général deux
semaines après les finales - dans l'espoir de
décrocher un juteux contrat pour une belle carrière
professionnelle.

voient attribuer les 14 premiers choix par une
loterie. Les futures stars sont issues de l'université,
du lycée, ou de l'étranger.

Comme lors de la draft de l'année 2013 où le jeune
haïtien-américain Nerlens Noël (actuel pivot des
76ers de Philadelphie) était pressenti comme le pick
no. 1, un autre jeune haïtien, Skal Labissière, fait
déjà sensation pour l'édition 2016 de cet événement
majeur. Il attire déjà le regard des scouts NBA et
pourrait devenir n°1 de la draft de l'an prochain.
Skal Labissière, premier garçon de la famille
Labissière (ses parents vivent encore en Haïti) a fait
ses débuts au Collège Canado-Haïtien, qui participait alors aux championnats scolaires de basket-ball
organisés respectivement par le CIBA (Comité interscolaire de basket) et l'ASI (Association de basketball interscolaire). Il mesure 2 mètres 16 et joue au
poste de power forward. À en croire les spécialistes
du basketball américain, Skal a le potentiel pour
révolutionner ce poste.
Sa maison s'est éffondrée lors du violent séisme qui
avait frappé Haïti en janvier 2010, mais pas ses
rêves de rejoindre la Grande Ligue nord-américaine.
Il est actuellement en bonne voie pour atteindre son
objectif. Cette future star de la NBA a été décou-
verte pour la première fois, il y a environ cinq ans,
par Pierre Valmera, dit Titanic, un ancien basketteur
professionnel haïtien qui a fait carrière en Europe,
notamment en Suisse, France et Espagne, à travers
son organisation "Power Forward International" qui
a déjà permis à 23 jeunes basketteurs haïtiens, dont
les très talentueux Antoine Joseph, Samuel
Danache, Joseph Antoine, Samuel Jean-Gilles et
Djery Jean-Baptiste de s'installer aux Etats-Unis
d'Amérique dans l'espoir de décrocher prochainement un contrat professionnel.
Skal Labissiere a quitté Haïti en 2012 après le tremblement de terre pour se rendre à l'Evangelical
Christian High School de Memphis grâce à une
bourse. Selon Rivals.com, il est aujourd'hui le 4e
meilleur prospect de sa classe. À 19 ans, la
prochaine étape de son rêve est sur le point de se
réaliser. Son principal scouter Pierre Valmera, qui
avait emmené en Haïti en septembre 2014 la star des
Sixters, Nerlens NOEL ( #6 de la Draft 2013) pour
un camp d'été dans le cadre de la promotion du bas-
Labissière vient d'être recruté par les Kentucky
Wildcats qui viennent de perdre sept joueurs souhaitant rejoindre la NBA. C'est de cette équipe que John
Wall , DeMarcus Cousins, Rajon Rondo et Michael
Kidd-Gilchrist sont sortis.
" J'ai toujours voulu jouer pour Kentucky "lâche
l'ancien élève du Collège Canado Haïtien à Port-auPrince à Yahoo Sports. "J'ai vu le record établi par le
coach John Calipari. Il te prépare physiquement et
mentalement pour le prochain niveau, et c'est ce que
je veux faire, jouer quotidiennement face à des
joueurs qui sont très bons. "
Un scout NBA n'a pas tari d'éloges au sujet de
Labissière, expliquant qu'il pourrait devenir un first
pick l'année prochaine, le comparant à LaMarcus
Aldridge ( Portland Trail Blazers (#12 / Power forward, Center). Il explique : "De mon point de vue il
sera numéro 1 parce qu'il a une très bonne coordination, il est très fluide, a de très bons skills. Ce n'est
pas encore un grand shooteur, mais il va le devenir.
Il a un très bon équilibre, fait de très bons déplacements et a toutes les capacités de contres pour
devenir un très bon intérieur. C'est quelqu'un que
personne (dans la NBA) n'a déjà vu. Tous les recruteurs en parlent… C'est la première fois que je le
vois, et je suis très impressionné. "

- OBITUARY Beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend,
Jacqueline Francois, passed
away on Monday April 20,
2015 in North Miami Beach,
Florida at the Jackson North
Medical Center. She was
born in Port Au Prince, Haiti
on May 15, 1940 the second
child of Fausta Laurenceau
and Saturnin Francois.
She touched many lives and
was loved by many for her
generous, warm, caring and
jovial nature. She lived her
life on her own terms, injected humor into everyone that
ability to see your pain as
well as to heal it.

May 15, 1940 - April 20, 2015
she met and had the uncanny
Ms. Francois, a loving mother of four, was predeceased
by her sisters Marlene
Francois and Marie Jose
Francois and is survived by
her children, Raynalda
Milord, Fabrice Milord,
Hans Milord and Joanne
Milord. She is also survived
by her two grandchildren,
Makenna Metayer and
Tristen Lindor and her brother Dr. Emmanuel Francois
and her half-brother Saturnin
