Quality LP Gas Products from a Company You Can Trust
Bob’s Corner
By Bob Bailey
Executive VP of Operations, COO
Teeco Products, Inc.
You know I am not one who likes to wish his
life away, but here in California, I can’t wait
for winter. Being born and raised in California I can’t remember a warmer, dryer winter
than we had last year. I know a lot of marketers out West feel the same way. The rest of
you in the good ol’ USA had your challenges
too, with fuel shortages. You know, I think
we are all ready for some happier times.
Speaking of happier times, Teeco will be having our Open House October 16th at our Sacramento facility. We have 19 of our vendors
planning on attending and providing product
information and training. We will also have
a live pull away demonstration provided by
Smart Hose. Lunch will be served, raffle
prizes won, & fun will be had by all.
If that doesn’t make you happy, then you can
join us for the second Teeco Invitational Golf
Tournament, co-sponsored by Quality Steel
Corporation, on October 17th at WildHawk
Golf Course (If you’ve watched me golf, you
will understand why I won’t be very happy).
TEECO Topics is published four times yearly by TEECO
Products, Inc. as a service to our customers. 3,000
copies are distributed to customers and selected LPG
industry leaders.
Executive Vice President & COO
Bob Bailey
This will be a best ball tournament, so don’t
worry about your skill level. The way I
look at it, if I pay $50.00 for golf and have
110 strokes, I am paying about 45 cents a
stroke. If you finish with 85 strokes, that’s
about 58 cents a stroke. The way I see it,
you might be a better golfer, but I am getting
the better deal. Lunch will be served and we
will be having a raffle and awards presentation after golf.
So, to get ready for winter and to bring cheer
to all, come join us for these events. It will
be a unique opportunity for your employees
to gain product knowledge and training. To
make it easy, we have provided you with a
signup sheet in this issue of Teeco Topics.
Mary, our Marketing Manager, puts a lot of
effort organizing this event and has promised me that all of you will be attending. So,
I guess I will see you there.

Inside
TEECO Corporate Headquarters
Tom Valverde began working at Teeco in October of 1969.
He started in Teeco’s Southern California Headquarters in the
Shipping Dept. He moved in to Customer Service, and eventually became Regional Operations Manager. Then in September
2001, when the opportunity arose, he moved to our Sacramento, CA branch. Tom celebrates his 45th anniversary with
Teeco this October.
Steve and Tom Valverde
Tom’s oldest son, Steve, enjoyed coming in to work with his
dad, and remembers riding around on the cart in the warehouse as a child. He began working in the Irvine office when
he was in high school and also worked summers through
college. He came to work full time in 1988 after graduating
from Cal State Fullerton. Steve is now Corporate Purchasing
Manager, and will celebrate 27 years with Teeco this January.
Tom’s younger son, Tommy, has also spent some time at
Teeco. He helped with Teeco’s annual inventory during his
Tom’s earlier days
high school and college year, and he now comes in from time
to time as an IT consultant.
If you’ve been to Teeco’s Sacramento location, you’ve probably seen Tom’s father, Chuck
Valverde, making hose assemblies. At 86 years old, he’s as quick on his feet as someone
half his age. Teeco is very fortunate to have 3 generations of Valverdes. Perhaps someday
we’ll have a 4th…

Keeping you compliant with NFPA 58
NFPA 58 - 2014 Edition was recently released, and incorporates
several changes and updates. One of the more significant updates
requires the facility hose to have a passive safety device that will
shut off the flow of LP Gas caused by a complete hose separation
(see 6.19.2.6-3)
6.19.2.6 Where a hose or swivel-type piping is used for Liquid transfer, it shall be
protected as follows:
(1) An emergency shutoff valve shall be installed at the Railroad tank car end of
the hose or swivel-type piping where flow into or out of the railroad tank car is
possible.
(2) An emergency shutoff valve or a backflow check valve Shall be installed on
the railroad tank car end of the hose or swivel-type piping where flow is only into
the railroad tank car.
(3)*Where a facility hose is used at a LP-Gas bulk plant or Industrial plant to
transfer LP-Gas liquid from a cargo tank vehicle in non-metered service to a bulk
plant or industrial plant, the facility hose or the facility shall be equipped with an
emergency discharge control system that provides a means to shut down the
flow of LP-Gas caused by the complete separation of the facility hose within 20
seconds and without the need for human intervention.
NFPA 58, 2014 Edition - Notable Changes:
 LP Gas bulk plants have been redefined as a facility that
stores LP Gas in containers of 4000 gallons (water capacity) or
larger.
 A leak check is required on all vapor piping systems operating
at 20 psig or less.
 NFPA 58; 2014 has added numerous new requirements for
vehicle protection on new LP Gas facility installations.
 The hose used at an LP Gas facility to off load a cargo tank
vehicle into a bulk plant or industrial plant must be protected
with an automatic safety system capable of stopping off the
flow of LP Gas in both directions in the event of a complete hose
separation.
 Underground metallic piping greater than 1” must be protected
by a cathodic protection system.
Smart-Hose Technologies is committed to making the LPG
industry safer. Our Smart-Hose Safety System represents a
passive safety device that will make your customers compliant
with NFPA 58, 2014 regulations
Smart-Hose assemblies are designed and engineered with a valve
integrated in each end fitting. If the hose assembly experiences
a catastrophic hose failure, the Smart-Hose Safety System is
designed to instantaneously shut off the flow in both directions.
Designed as a passive safety device, the Smart-Hose Safety
System meets the requirement of NFPA 58; 2014 Edition for the
facility hose.

Women in Propane Council to Present at the World LP Gas Forum
The Women in Propane Business Council (WIP) will co-host a discussion focused on the role of the World LP Gas Association
(WLPGA) in the creation of a global network for women in the propane industry. The roundtable discussion will take place during
the 27th World LP Gas Forum & 29th AIGLP Congress on Wednesday, October 29, 2014, from 11:00am-12:30pm in Miami, Florida.
WIP’s Founding Chair, Nancy Coop (Business Development Executive, Ferrellgas), and WIP’s current Chair, Jill Hopkins (CFO,
Sheldon Gas Company), will share with attendees the history of the U.S. Women in Propane Council, its successes and challenges,
and the group’s future plans.
Following Coop and Hopkins’ presentation, they will be joined by a distinguished panel moderated by Nikki Brown. The panel
includes international industry leaders, and will address forming a group similar to WIP through the WLPGA, along with the mission
and goals of such a group, and recommendations for moving forward.
“I am thrilled to be able to share the story of the U.S. Women in Propane Council with a global audience. While we are still a
relatively new group, our reach is expansive and we are delivering results for our members. I’m looking forward to seeing our
concept applied on an international stage.” said Hopkins.
For more information about the Forum, please visit the event website at http://www.wlpgas2014.com/ or contact Esther Assous at
[email protected].
Women in Propane Council
The Women in Propane Council was established to provide positive opportunities for all members of our industry to support the
advancement and success of women in every scope of business operation and professional development.
