Editor’s Note
Happy (Belated) New Year.
Have you made your new year’s resolution to train harder, and more efficiently? Now seems to be the time
to take stock.
I think mine should include actually completing everything I plan to do. How often I decide at the last
minute,’I’m too tired, it’s too hot, too cold, too early, too late…. Yes I can dream up any number of different
excuses! And yes I’ve just missed the Sunday swim…. But for those who are totally dedicated and guilt
free, don’t forget, recovery is also part of your training!
May your New Year resolutions be carried out and you achieve your goals. For some it will just to keep fit
and enjoy the training. For others it will be competing in various races.
There are so many choices of events to choose from, it is often hard to keep up with what’s on and who is
competing in what events. One of the things I would like to see as an outcome of the club newsletter is to
hear what club members are doing. Facebook and the club website are also good ways of keeping in
touch and I know many members use these however, others don’t.
Let me know when you compete in an event. It would be great to share your
achievements. And while it is good to hear of a podium finish, If it’s an achievement for you to have
just participated, then let me know. I also want to share what events people are doing. Triathlon is a
very individual sport but we are a CLUB and we need to feel a club spirit and identity.
While the committee can organise various events and activities, it is the members who make or break a
club. …And relating to that, don’t forget that for every club event, there is a minimum of are 8 volunteers
needed. Every club member is expected to help at some stage.
Good luck and happy training.
Penny Hearn
Message from the President
Happy New Year to all our members. I’m sure you have all set yourselves some goals for
the new year and have started the process of getting fitter and faster over the next 12
months. Whether your goal is to complete your first triathlon, run a half marathon or
complete an Ironman we are here to help and encourage. One bit of advice make the goal
achievable and tell everyone you know what that goal is. It will help keep you focused!
Hope to see you all at the sprint event on Australia Day weekend.

Event Report
A total of 10 training events were held by NTC during 20014, not including the upcoming Christmas
teams event to be held on 21 December at Lion’s Park.
The latest Sprint Distance training event was held on Sunday 30 November 2014 (results and
photos are posted on Noosa Tri Club website and Facebook).
This year we held a 1000m swim/20km cycle/6km run for the senior club members and
simultaneously a junior enticer event of 200m swim/12km cycle/3km run. 30 participants
registered (including 6 juniors) however, on the day only 27 competed. Despite the lower than
expected numbers the quality and enthusiasm of the field was excellent and enjoyed by all. First
over the line was Angus Luhrs for the junior group who is developing into a very quick and
professional athlete. Look out Aaron Royle!! In the senior sprint event Nick showed good form to
see home the pack. Well done to everyone who competed.
Special thanks to all the volunteers who make these events possible. Also welcome to new club
member Mel Benjamin who competed for the first time.

“The Punisher” Wednesday Run session
5.45am Wednesday mornings – meet at the Noosa Tri Club car park.
Cost – Free, Nil, Zilch
We have been running the Wednesday morning run sessions for over a year now and we have
seen runner numbers continue to grow. This is a great session for those wanting to improve their
running. Each session is designed to be a bit different to keep things interesting, they might
include, sand, beach access points, Jess’s National Park hill repeats, beep test and everyone’s
favourite Steps. Most sessions will be between 9 to 12 km and should be finished by 7.15am.
Everyone is welcome, so if you have not joined us yet for a Punisher run session make it your New
Year resolution to get along. And if you have time afterwards most of us catch up for a quick
coffee. If you have any questions feel free to give me a call.
We also now have our own “Punisher” run t-shirts cost $35 which are available at each Punisher
run session.

How I got into Triathlons: A friend who had done a couple of triathlons encouraged me to give it a
go - my first ever triathlon was a Triathlon Pink event at Kawana at the end of 2012. I loved
it! Since then I've done some Gatorade and Bribie sprint events and my first Olympic distance
triathlon was the Noosa Tri in 2014. Dave (husband) bought the photos and put them on the
lounge room wall - he is a bit proud of me!
Sporting background: Nothing specific and only ever for fun - I was involved in a few team sports
at school and enjoyed athletics.
Highlights: So far, the Noosa Tri and in particular the run leg with the crowd cheering me on!
Lowlights: Falling off my bike and breaking my wrist in 2013. Luckily my orthopaedic surgeon was
a keen cyclist and after some talk about bikes, triathlons etc he put me in a waterproof cast so I
could still swim!
Other interests: I've been in the Army Reserve for 17 years. I play clarinet and saxophone in the
Royal Australian Artillery Band in Brisbane. Also, a little over a year ago I joined the Noosa Surf
Lifesaving Club and enjoy beach patrols.
Favourite training sessions: Tuesday morning wind trainer, Tri Club transitions, and a bike-run
brick I do from home.
A typical training week: I try to do a bike-run brick once a week, and then try to fit in a few swims,
a few bike sessions and a few runs. I do Noosa Parkrun on Saturdays when I can and in the past
few months I've enjoyed doing Pilates. At the moment I'm on holidays so I've been trying to get to
as many Tri Club training sessions as possible. When I go back to work I'll have to figure out what
I can still get to...
Triathlon strengths: I really enjoy the swim, but the run is probably my best leg at the moment.
Triathlon weaknesses: The bike - I think I enjoy it the most but need to put more time and effort
into it...
My bike: I love my bike! It is an Orbea bought second-hand from Greg at Le Cyclo sportif about
two years ago. I'm getting aerobars soon (Santa gave me some cash!) so I'm looking forward to
that.
Events in 2015: Noosa Tri Club events, Bribie Tri in early February, Mooloolaba in March, Noosa
in November, and hopefully a couple of events between March and November.
