The MEd degree can be completed through three different routes: coursework, thesis, or portfolio. The MEd can be completed in one to two years full-time depending upon route chosen, or up to four years using the flex-time schedule. In all fields, this professional program prepares graduates for a career in public health practice. Applicants to the MPH program may choose either a full-time (two years) or flex-time (four years) schedule. Applicants to the general MPH program may apply to either a Thesis Option or a Course Option. Candidates must meet Lakehead University’s regulations for Master’s degrees, as well as additional requirements of the MPH Admissions Committee. The annual application deadline is February 1. These are on-campus lectures that are delivered simultaneously between Thunder Bay and Orillia campuses. Instructors communicate with students through a variety of tools such as email, discussion, message boards, chat and presentations. Students are able to communicate with one another both in the “live” classroom and with the class learning at a distance, just as if they were in a traditional classroom. ÌSpring & Summer Courses - Distributed Learning JAnthropology Special Topics: Anthropological Perspectives of Young People Special Topics: Consumer Culture & Identity Anthropology 3811 ADE (.5 credit) Anthropology 3811 SDE (.5 credit) Prerequisite(s): None This course explores the intersections of consumer culture and identity formation. We will examine media culture, the normalization of consumer lifestyle, and people's identification, complicities, and resistances. The course interrogates neoliberalism, the shift from citizens to consumers, and draws on media literacies and interventions. Areas explored include entertainment culture, fashioning lifestyles, shopping, disposable society, and tourism. Prerequisite(s): None This class focuses of the recent explosion in anthropological research on childhood and adolescence. A key shift has been to move away from adult-centred to young person-centred approaches. We will explore early cross-cultural research on child-rearing, socialization, and enculturation processes as well as recent research that considers such processes from the perspective of children themselves.
