Isn’t the Internet great!? I stumbled upon the Airelist one afternoon in January whilst searching
for some techniques to manage my young ‘full-on’ Airedale Arj Barker’s less desirable behaviors. l was at my wits end. My cry for help was heard and l received a lovely email from Sue
Forrester reassuring me that Airedale puppies were ‘different’; and suggested it might help to
meet some other Airedale owners and their dogs.
The morning of February 17th dawned and l packed Arj into the station wagon. True to his breed
Arj was happy just for a ride in the car. Little did he know, as we drove up the winding Highway,
that we were on our way to the Warburton Wander – Big Aire-day out.
On arrival at Warburton Arj’s confidence evaporated upon being presented to his own kind en
masse. We were eased into the group with the help of Jules and her friendly youngster Orla. Arj
needn’t have worried. Soon he was surrounded by dogs with wagging tails investigating him
with their BBN’s (big black noses), and l was meeting fellow AireNetters who were interested in
Arj’s particular coloring, ‘doormat’ type coat and even his long gangly adolescent legs!
The Wander began along the Yarra River, sparkling in the morning sun. The dogs familiar with
the area were straight in to bathe at their favorite swimming holes. This was all new to Arj, who
had a ‘incident’ involving a river at a young age. He watched the other Airedales in fascination,
and was even lured in for a paddle or two by the end of the day!

Warburton Wander – Big AireAire- day out!!
Meeting the ‘senior’ Airedales, many of who were rescues, was a highlight of my day. These dogs were no longer flying the black
and tan, more of a fawn and grey, and were enjoying their wander at a leisurely pace; who could ignore the lovely Sweetpea’s
flying ear.
After our wander, as the heat of the day set in, we headed to Julie and Rolf’s property where their dales Laika and Tanner welcomed us to their shady backyard area. The signal was given to ‘Release the hounds!” so leads were unsnapped and the dogs
were able to meet and greet each other in an informal atmosphere. Arj was minding his P&Q’s and being a model young dog,
thereby making a liar of me (l’m pleased to say!).
Over a BBQ lunch it was great to chat to other owners, Marcia about her young dog Bobbi, Michael, who had made the journey
from Bendigo, with George and Princess Mandy and Brendan with his very sweet dog Coco showing us what lay underneath the
famous Airedale coat with her shorn-for-the summer clip.
Of course l can’t finish without mentioning the dog whose name was on everybody’s lips, Wesley. In doing his best to enjoy the
Sausage Sizzle he made everybody laugh, thereby reminding us exactly what we all love about Airedale Terriers … handsome,
talented and funny! By Suellen Entwistle

New Regional Contacts……….
Please welcome three new Regional Contacts who have volunteered to be extra ears and eyes for AireNet, two in Queensland and
one in NSW.
Camilla Murphy and Donna Prescott are in the Brisbane Region and are happy to assist with any Airedale enquiries up there, or in
Queensland generally. We are discovering a surprising number of Airedales in that State, and many are coming together via
AireNet. Camilla and Donna just organised their first Social Day for AireNet last Sunday, at a Brisbane park and beach area that is
safe for dogs. We are delighted to have you both doing so much for Airedales up there.
In the Coffs Harbour /Northern Rivers Region of NSW, we also welcome Gerard & Jo Kitt, who are passionate Airedale owners
and have just this week rescued a little one year old Airegirl from the Hunter River Regional Pound in Scone. They will foster her
for a time then she will be adopted locally by a friend of theirs who has a 4 month old Airedale boy. A great outcome and one that
has brought two more dedicated people into our network.
Contact details are all on the website.

Adding Another Dog to Our Family…..
Brendan and I had talked about adding another dog into our little family one day in the future, Brendan desperately wanted a German Short Haired Pointer, I knew we would have another dale one day
This brings us to the 1st February at 8am, Krys posted on Airenet that an Airedale was needing to rehome a 6 yr old and the advertisement was on Dogzonline. I quickly had a look at the website and at that stage didn’t realise that the rehome was our
breeder so got Brendan to ring the mobile number just to find out more information
Brendan rang back after a few minutes and said it was Saachi and Barb , after my initial shock I rambled away with questions ..
Poor Brendan.
So it was decided that we would take Saachi for a 2 week trial and after then if she is happy and we are happy then she will become part of our family,
On Friday 15th of February Barb dropped Saachi off with her bed and her beloved Duck.
Saachi and Rogue had a little play then Saachi went off and explored the yard with Rogue alongside.. The behavior they both displayed from that moment on has been like they have always been together, they play together, walk together, lounge around
together .
Friday the 3rd March Barb came over she was so happy to see Saachi looking good and obviously happy. We filled out the paperwork and Barb brought over a beautiful Chocolate Gratin Cake which we all enjoyed..
Saachi is very affectionate, she loves a cuddle has a special connection with Brendan, she loves the girls, especially Tegan, I often
find her asleep on Tegan’s bed. We enjoy a snuggly cuddle on the lounge each night..
Barb said Saachi is very sedate and quiet, I think being apart of our busy family is livening her up, She loves our morning and afternoon walks and becomes very excited when we grab the walking collars, we are even seeing her cheeky inner puppy coming
out, she loves enticing Rogue to play with her , she puts up with Rogues robust puppy excitement very well I love watching them
interact ..
Life with two dales is just beautiful ….

February Queenaireday..
Finally we have blue sky and the sun was shining for our first real Aireday . I must say leading up to the day we were getting
worried, as the past couple of weeks were quite wet.
We decided to meet at Nudgee Off lead park, I chose this park because it was hidden and really quiet, the dales can play and run
around in bliss. Unfortunately once we got there most of it was flooded, muddy and the mosquitoes were very bad, we made the
decision to move to the Dog beach park so the Dales could also have a swim at the beach.
The park was right on the beach so the dales could have a play in the fenced area then go through a gate and have a swim, the
view was lovely.
All the dales had a wonderful time running around saying high to the other Dales and the other dogs in the park. It was a lovely
day, getting to meet people in person was really nice too.
Rachel came with Sasha who especially enjoyed paying attention to the little fluffy dogs
Donna came along with the beautiful Ruby and Miles; Donna’s daughter Elliot had a great time in the mud and splashing around in
the water.
Wendy and John made the trip from the Gold coast with Charlie Brown, Charlie once again took Rogue in for a swim and played
fetch with John. Wendy was wonderful and took Saachi in the water, from the pictures she had a lovely time..
Sarah hobbled in with Hudson Veyron Crocker , thank you Sarah for coming with your broken foot, Hudson had a lovely time and
was very spiffy in his stud collar..
Andrew and his daughter came with Rufus ..
Brendan, myself, the twins Ashlyn and Shannon and of course Rogue and Saachi who had a wonderful day running and meeting
everyone.
It was lovely seeing all the dales together having a lovely time , I for one cannot wait to catch up with everyone again soon for
another play and wet beard licks

Holidays for Airedales
We are looking for Airedale friendly people out there who could mind an extra Airedale or two (or three….)
on a temporary basis in their own home. That way Airedale families could go on holidays knowing their 4
legged furrkid was staying in an Airedale friendly environment, with other Dales to play with.
We would need your Name, Suburb, State, Phone & Email address and also the number of dogs you could
take temporarily. Once we have the database up and running, it can be used by Airedale families to help
with holiday arrangements.
Please contact Roz Eldridge on 0408 689 158 or [email protected]
