Greetings To All:
It seems as though Pride 2007 has just ended and once again we are into the Annual
Pride season. This year, like last, the Pride Flag is flying at the front of City Hall: Hence
the theme “Flying High With Pride”. This is due to a majority of City Councilors and
Board of Control who are proud to recognize the GLBT Community within the City of
London. Next municipal election vote and support those who have supported you.
Planning for this years Festival has gone very well. Your dedicated Board of Directors
and Committee Chairs have planned a great Festival for all. In addition to the Annual
Pride Family Picnic (sponsored by Metropolitan Community Church), Annual Pride
Art Show, Literary Night and the 3 Day Outdoor Festival, we have made a couple
of additions. This year, with The Verve Productions, we are hosting 2 nights of Live
Theatre. In an effort to make your Annual Pride Festival more family friendly we have
added a all new Kid Zone. The Kid Zone will feature face painting, a bouncy castle, arts
and crafts etc…
We have a great entertainment lineup with something to suit everyone’s taste; Jazz/
Blues, 50s 60s,Country, Modern Age and Pop. Come out enjoy the music, frequent the
Pride Marketplace , meet up with old friends and have a great time.
We would like to send out a heart felt Thank You to the sponsors, advertisers and
volunteers. Without you we wouldn’t be able to produce the Festival.
This year in addition to our usual dedicated Sponsors and Advertisers we have seen
several new sponsors and advertisers come onboard. As you browse through the Pride
Guide/Community Directory take note of the Sponsors and Advertisers; support those
who have supported YOUR Pride London Festival 2008.

Anti-Harassment
Not out at work?
80% of LGBT employees are not out. Diversity training is
training provided with the stated purpose of problem solving
(educating all parties around a discrimination or harassment
issue) and treating diversity as an opportunity and promoting
the ability of members from a great variety of backgrounds
to cooperate productively and make as great a contribution
as possible to organizational goals.
Harassment Problem?
Education is a proven method of creating, repairing, and
maintaining a positive environment. We provide high energy dynamic workshops on diversity, human rights, harassment, sexism, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ability/
disability. Working with corporations, business, social agencies, schools and community groups to bring an awareness
of diversity, equality and respect for all people.
Want an Inclusive Worplace?
Diversity is the new landscape of our ever changing world.
Increased diversity in organizations is creating interpersonal
challenges and conflict.
fl
Promotion of respect and understanding of all situations is a realistic need of our organizations to maintain a productive workforce, keep morale high,
and avoid lawsuits arising from lack of understanding.

OUR LONDON PRIDE 2008 GRAND MARSHAL
“They say it’s just a phase I’m going through……but I’ve been going through it for 99 years !” said
Bob Lamoreaux, the person chosen to be our Grand Marshal for London’s Pride Parade 2008.
Now in his 100th year, Bob will actually turn 100 next month (on August 20th.) He and his partner
of many years, Cyprian (Sid) Farey, will be in lead car showing Londoners that gays are here
to stay.
To some, “going through a phase” is just that, many people experiment with sex at an early age,
others realize they are gay from the very early years of their development.
Bob and Sid reside in the Palm Springs California area and have given hundreds of hours to gay
causes. They were two of the earliest members of the Prime Timers International and could always
be counted on for their support.
Bob’s family comes from Michigan and Sid moved to North America from Czechoslovakia.
While in London, they will be hosted by Bill Worrall and Eduardo de Oliveira, will attend the
Let’s Dine Out Picnic and enjoy a week of London hospitality.

Mission Statement
Pride London’s Festival’s mission is
to provide an annual opportunity to
generate celebratory, cultural, artistic
and educational events which affirm
the lives of GLBTT2 (gay, lesbian,
bisexual, transsexual, transgender,
two spirited) people and supporters
through activities which promote unity,
inclusion and awareness of sexual and
gender diversity.
Organization Vision
Pride London Festival operates within
a set of principles and ideals that
encourage community investment
and development; health and wellbeing; safety and the advancement of
Canadian art through an annual artistic
and cultural festival.
and culture of the GLBTT2 (gay, lesbian,
bisexual, transsexual, transgender, two
spirited) community.
Artists and artistic works are chosen
based on content, availability, diversity,
focus and cultural merit.
Ideally
professional/amateur artists who are
of the GLBTT2 community and whose
work deals directly or indirectly with
related gender, sexual or discrimination
issues are chosen. Generally they are
under representated in the commerical
arts community; their work may be
marginalized due to content; it is a
great opportunity to expose work to
the elements of the community which
would most likely be affected by it. It is
also an opportunity to show examples
of successful professional/amateur
GLBTT2 persons.
Artistic Vision
The goal of Pride London Festival is to
present a variety of works in the various
mediums (music, photography, writing,
painting, film, video and performance)
that highlight, explore, expand and
deal with identity and gender issues
Artists are not chosen strictly on
sexual orientation.
Heterosexual
artists whose work is somehow related
or aligned with GLBTT2 culture, deals
with discrimination or gender issues
are also considered.

Do We Still Need Pride Celebrations?
By Eugene R. Dustin
I have heard some people say “we don’t need Pride anymore”. And I have to admit I have sometimes
wondered if they were right. The GLBT community has made great strides within the City of
London, the Province of Ontario and throughout Canada. Numerous members of City Council/
Board of Control have shown, and continue to, show their support for the GLBT community. The
Federal Government now recognizes same sex couples when it comes to CPP benefits. Same Sex
Marriage is now recognized. Numerous MPs support the GLBT community. Numerous MPPs
support the GLBT community. The majority of employers are no longer discriminating against
a person who is within the GLBT community. Many businesses from the “straight” community
support the GLBT community. It makes one wonder are they (the ones who say “we don’t need
Pride anymore”) right?
There are still some within all levels of Government that cannot separate church from state. Therefore
they do not support the GLBT community. You can still walk on the streets and hear “faggot”,
“queer”, “homo”, “fairy” and some other comments that I will not repeat. I recently heard of a
young man who had “come out” to his parents. As a result he was kicked out of his family home
and was “couch surfing” with friends. There are still some employers who practice discrimination
because of sexual orientation; something we have experienced in our own household. While it is
considered an illegal practice they, the employer, have become more articulate when dismissing a
person because of their sexual orientation.
So now I would have to say YES we still need Pride Celebrations. We have to be forefront in
an effort to show we the GLBT community is here and are not going away. Until all levels of
Government can differentiate between church and state, until that son or daughter can “come out”
to their family and friends without fear, until employers no longer dismiss a person because of
their sexual orientation, until it is realized we are family living normal lives WE NEED PRIDE
CELEBRATIONS.
To quote the renowned author, Michael Riordon, “wherever those who hate us can get away with it,
they still crucify, torture, drown, bomb, burn, poison, stone, impale, shoot, imprison, beat, starve,
shock, shun, drug and exile us.” “Yet still and always, here we are”.
Enjoy YOUR Pride Celebration and remember this not just a big party it is a opportunity for you
to show your community who you are and PROUD OF IT.
Happy
Pride!
Congratulations
on celebrating
over 25 years of
Pride in London.
Have a fun &
enjoyable Pride!

PHOTOCELL
Pop for People Who Hate
Pop Music
Creating music that speaks to a generation about their social
landscape and wrapping that message in a fresh and exciting Pop
package is no easy feat. Especially when the artist’s vision is Pop that’s unique and ‘cool’ AND
catchy and undeniable. Photocell’s recipe is ‘No Boundaries’. A mash-up of musical influences
from New Wave and Rock to Electro and Euro Pop, a bold fashion style and a sexy, high-energy
live spectacle make Photocell one of the hottest new acts on the Canadian Music Scene.
Under the name ‘Stutter’ the band quickly achieved notoriety including 2 Toronto Music Awards
for ‘Best Pop Group’ and ‘Best Song’; a Top 100 single on satellite radio; a music video in
rotation on MuchMusic; songs placed in network television shows; a successful tour of Canada;
and sales in excess of 5000 units of their debut indie release. As the group’s sound and image
evolved, the members no longer felt the moniker ‘Stutter’ represented the new artistic direction.
After much deliberation, ‘Photocell’ just said it all.
Photocell is currently writing and recording material for their debut release and are busy
performing to North American audiences. For more on the group visit www.photocell.tv or

Happy Pride 2008
Taking Pride In Your Pride
Hello my fellow friends of London. Chadwyck Chung is back wishing you a safe and Happy
Pride 2008! What is/was Pride? Twenty years ago, Pride was known as two gay men wanting to
be accepted by straight people. They saw us as disgusting guys hopping in bed with each other,
get HIV/AIDS and eventually die. If that’s what Pride means to you this article is not for you.
Please stop reading. If you found out someone close to you is gay or lesbian, you might want to
take in some information. Knowledge is power… only if it’s put to use!
This year, I would like reflect on why we are here today and for many years to come. As a gay or
lesbian individual, do you ever remember a day in your life eating dinner with family, friends or
acquaintances and someone brought up a gay joke? Do you remember feeling stabbed because
you knew they were also talking about you? But you were the only one that knew the truth and
humbled the pain by laughing it off? Do you see in public washroom stalls today written on the
walls, all fags should die? Has a student at your school gossiped to you about some queer? You
“were supposed” to laugh at the trashee of the hour but instead you knew you were an additional
so called, queer, being verbally bashed. So, because of the experiences at home by your own
father, mother, brother, sister and at school by someone you think is a friend, thanks to those bad
experiences, that’s why Pride is still here! We are here to break down past and current barriers to
our future successful happy lives.
Remember the liquid cement of adversities poured over us? It has now hardened into solid concrete. It is now the foundation
behind our success. Embrace those painful days gone past because it is the reason why we have so much to look forward to. It
is going to be the reason why our Pride network is known to the world. Pride has come a long way since it first started but we
still have quite a journey left to go. All of our accomplishments are just the tip of the Pride ice burg and most of it is still
underwater waiting to happen. You don’t believe me? Look at the person that is currently or that was previously in your life.
Do you remember the day when you said to that person, “Hi my name is….”?? Remember when you were both strangers and
all of a sudden you see that person every day? Yes, you were once unknown and now being talked about all the time by a loved
one. Future relationships that haven’t started yet are going to start. Future adopted children will soon be adopted. Gay
marriages that haven’t been planned yet will soon be attended. That’s the underwater portion of the Pride ice burg that we need
to plan for.
So, in order to build a happy future for yourself and others surrounding you, we need to come together as a growing community
and make Pride take off like a 747 jumbo jet. In order for this sucker to get off the ground we cannot be going at it two miles
per hour, we must be going full speed ahead. Everyone of us has at some point been dictated by society how we’re supposed to
live, who we date, why we’re not going to last with a particular person, who’s going to like us and how we’re going to fail at
what we haven’t started. That’s not a gay thing; it’s a real world thing. I am originally from Kingston, Jamaica. I have already
been told I’m not allowed to be gay because of my heritage. Who makes all these stupid rules anyway? It was hard enough
experiencing racism as a child going into my teenage years. Today, black people are more accepted than we were years ago, but
we still, we have Caribanna every year. So, if I’m allowed to show off my black heritage pride down a busy street, downtown
Toronto, why is it a problem to show off my Gay Pride and march my gay butt down the streets of London, Ontario? Let me
first say, we had Martin Luther King, Rosa Parks and Bob Marley pave the road for some of us. Who’s our current Martin
Luther King of Gay Pride? If we don’t have one, we have a lot of work ahead of us!
I feel very privileged to say, my current employer, TD Canada Trust has truly shown me how far we’ve come since the days of
“if you’re gay shut up” has arrived. Not only is diversity talked about and shown on posters on the walls but it is practiced. I
was shown a video about diversity at TD for a monthly team meeting and when I saw the Pride flag recognizing our Gay Pride
network, I felt a feeling of relief. It shows that if it wasn’t for our pain in years gone past we wouldn’t be where we are being
recognized in the work place. So now, what is Pride? I would say Pride is feeling good about who you are, not just by who
ends up in your bed. If you are a married man with a wife, kids and family oriented, a man with a man, a woman with a woman,
etc., take pride in that. If you’re happy, show your Pride. That’s what this celebration is. Take Pride In Your Pride and show it
off because it represents you!
