Area Characteristics
Dallas’ Southwestern Medical District is home
to the city’s most significant medical facilities.
The University of Texas Southwestern
Medical Center & Medical School has a 400
acre campus with one of the premier research
institutions in the nation. It features four (4)
active Nobel Laureates, more than any other
medical center in the world. Dallas’ largest
hospital, Parkland, is located here along with
Children’s Medical Center, St. Paul Hospital,
UTSW Biocenter, Zale Lipsky Hospital and
the Center for Brain Health.
Parkland Hospital is building a replacement
campus at a cost of $1.27 billion, scheduled
for completion in 2014. UT Southwestern is
replacing St. Paul Hospital at a cost of $800
million, scheduled for completion in 2014.
These are the 2 largest hospital construction
projects in the United States. Most of Dallas’
construction is occurring within the District.
In fact, 61% of jobs expected to be created in
Dallas over the next few years will be in the
Medical District. This will compliment the
5,000 businesses currently in the area

The Stemmons Corridor is also home to
several new Dallas Area Rapid Transit System
(DART) Substations. Plans are underway to
better link the District with commuter
services.
This will include Love Field,
currently undergoing expansion, home to 500

The Dallas Design District is adjacent to the
Medical Center with the Apparel Mart, World
Trade Center, Trade Mart, Market Hall,
Infomart and the International Floral and Gift
Center, combining to generate over $7.5
