Shree Sarvottam Strotra
29 September 2012
The 9th shlok of Shree Sarvottam Strotra consists of 4 names of Shree Mahaprabhuji. We will
cover the second half of the 9th shlok, which covers the 12th and 13th names of Shree
Mahaprabhuji.
12. BHAKTI-MARG-AMBUJ MARTANDAH
13. STRI-SHUDRA-UDHATI-KSHAMAH
BHAKTI-MARG-AMBUJ MARTANDAH
Meaning:
BHAKTI-MARG-AMBUJ MARTANDAH means the SUN (sun = martand) who made the
Bhakti Marg blossom (Bhakti Marg is compared to Lotus = Ambuj).
By Shriroop Parikh
Like the Sun who is responsible for the blossoming of the Lotus flower; Shree Mahaprabhuji in
the form of SUN is responsible for the prospering Lotus like Bhakti Marg. In both the granths,
Shrimad Bhagwatji and Shrimad Bhagwad Gitaji, including Bhakti Marg, Gyan and Karma Marg
are also shown. Shree Mahaprabhuji chose the Bhakti Marg and was responsible for prospering
it further. He showed that Bhakti Marg is the only marg that is sulabh (soft / accessible /
convenient) for all Pushti Jeevs.
Like a Lotus which is unblossomed before Sunrise, the Bhakti Marg was in shushupt
(sleeping / not fully awake) state before the birth of Shree Mahaprabhuji.
Shree Mahaprabhuji is the glorifier of Bhakti Marg who has his absolute faith in Shrimad
Bhagwadji and Shrimad Bhagwat Gitaji. Shree Mahaprabhuji not only has absolute faith, but
he also loyally follows all the dharmas (characteristics and rituals of Bhakti Marg) shown in
Shrimad Bhagwadji and Shrimad Bhagwat Gitaji.
He believes that Shrimad Bhagwad Gitaji is the ONLY SHASHTRA.
“Ekam Shastra Devaki Putra Gitam” - The one song sung by Deviki's son, Krishna meaning
Shree Mahaprabhuji solely believes that Shrimad Bhagwad Gitaji is the only Shashtra. He said
Shrimad Bhagwatji is it's (Shrimad Bhagwad Gitaji's) vistaar (elaboration) and followed it
completely. This Bhakti Marg, as shown in Shrimad Bhagwad Gitaji and Shrimad Bhagwat was
fully adopted and evolved by Shree Mahaprabhuji.
During the time of Mahaprabhuji, there were a lot of different philosophies on the Bhakti Marg
creating too many branches. This made is really difficult for the daivi jeevs (e.g. 84 vaishnavs)
to understand the true and pure path of Sharnagati. Due to this reason on Shravan Sud
Ekadashi (11) of 1549 (Vikram Samvant) on Govind Ghat in Gokul during midnight Shree
Purna Purshottam (Shree Shreenathji) appeared in front of Shree Mahaprabhuji and gave him
Brahma-sambandh mantra and updesh (message). Thereafter Shree Mahaprabhuji evolved
the Bhakti Marg.
This name signifies “Aishwarya” Dharma.
STRI-SHUDRA-UDHATI-KSHAMAH

By Shriroop Parikh
Meaning:
STRI-SHUDRA-UDHATI-KSHAMAH means the one who is capable to do udhdhaar
(rescue / save / reform) of women and untouchables/lower castes (shudra)
The Ved shashtras don't give the rights to women and shudras to learn and read them. Only
men have those rights and that also men who are either Brahmin, Kshtriya or Vaishya can
study Ved. Shree Krishna Dvaipayana Vyas classified the Veds into 4 parts and wrote the
supplementary texts of Veds called Purans; 18 Puranas were written by him. These Puranas
opened up the path of reformation of women and shudras as they were allowed to read them.
But Shree Mahaprabhuji went further by creating Pushtimarg and making it easy and simple
for them (Women and shudra).
Shree Mahaprabhuji accepted Kshatrani of Mahavan and Yaadavendra Kumhaar in Pushtimarg
and in this way he did their udhdhaar. Shree Mahaprabhuji's this act can be understood by
understanding this shlok from Shreemad Bhagwad Gitaji:
“Mahi Parth Vyapa-shritya yeapi syuhu paap-yoneyah |
striyo viashya-statha shudra-stoapi yaanti param gatim ||”
Meaning: Shree Krushna says, “ O Parth, by taking my shelter
(aashray) even women, prostitutes and shrudra can get the best
of best salvation of their soul.”
Based on these words spoken by Shree Krushna, Shree Mahaprabhuji accepted the women and
shudras who came to His shelter in Pushtimarg and gave them the right to do Seva by giving
them Brahmasambandh.
Shree Mahaprabhuji mentions in Subodhiniji :
“Ye bhakta shastra-rahitah stri-shudra-dvij bandhavah |
Teshaam-udhdharakah krushnah stri-ana-matra visheshta ||”
Meaning: Women, prostitutes and shudras who don't have the
knowledge of Shastras, their saviour is Shree Krushna, especially He
is The saviour for women.
Following his this faith in Shree Krushna, Shree Mahaprabhuji proved that he is capable to do
udhdhaar of women and shudras by accepting them in Pushtimarg and allowing them to do
Seva (of Shree Krushna) by giving them Brahma-sambandh.

ANGI-KRUTYEV GOPISH-VALLABHI-KRUT-MANAVAH
ANGI-KRUTAU SAMARYADAH
MAHA-KAARUNI-KAH
VIBHUHU
ANGI-KRUTYEV GOPISH-VALLABHI-KRUT-MANAVAH
Meaning: One who makes humans (daivi jeevs) the loved ones of Shree Krishna
just by accepting them (in Pushtimarg)
By Shriroop Parikh
Shree Mahaprabhuji just by accepting (angi-kaar) the (Pushti) jeevs makes them loved ones of
Shree Gopish (Shree Shreenathji). In Shreemad Bhagwad Gitaji, Shree Krushna has
mentioned 30-35 characteristics of his favourite ones (his bhakts). For these bhakts he
mentions - “sa mey priyah”, meaning – these bhakts are my favourite. Moral being that jeev
(bhakt) tries to become favourite/loved one of God.
In Shree Gitaji it is mentioned, in order “to become one of the favourites of Prabhu”, jeev has
to achieve those type of characteristics. But Shree Mahaprabhuji, just by accepting the jeev
who has come to his shelter and giving Brahma-sambandh to the jeev, makes him God's
favourite (priya).
Shree Krushna will never let go of the jeev, he has promised that (to Shree Mahaprabhuji).
This is only possible if the jeev is so favourite (one of the loved ones) to Shree Krushna. Once
the jeev says, “Daaso-ham, krushna tavaasmi” and Prabhu accepts the Daasatva of the
jeev, thereafter Shree Shreenathji never let goes of that jeev – this is the bhaav of Shree
Mahaprabhuji's this name.

We have the example of Ramanand Pandit in front of us, who just by accepting was one of the
closest jeevs to Shree Shreenathji.
Shree Shreenathji has said, “Whosoever hand I will hold, I will never ever let go of that hand.”
And Shree Shreenathji is “Satya Sankalp”. (Explaining shlok below)
“Satya Sankalpto Vishnur-nanya-thatu karish-yati |”
Meaning: Shree Vishnu is a true and loyal promiser (Satya
Sankalp). He would never act against his own promise.
In order to show and prove this to the Pushti Bhakts, Shree Mahaprabhuji lets go of Ramanand
Pandit due to some fault (apraadh) of his. But Shree Vishnu (Shree Shreenathji), the Satya
Sankalpi, didn't let go of Ramanand Pandit. Shree Shreenathji accepted (ate) the Jalebi with
complete Bhaav that was bought and offered by Ramanandji in the market. By doing this
Shree Shreenathji showed to the Pushti jeevs that he has accepted the angi-krut jeev
(Ramanandji) and he is also his priya (favourites).
We should always remember that Shree Shreenathji did angi-kaar of Ramanand Pandit
through Shree Mahaprabhuji. Hence the name - “one who just by doing angi-kaar of the jeevs,
they become favourites/loved ones of Shree Shreenathji” - ANGI-KRUTYEV GOPISHVALLABHI-KRUT-MANAVAH.
This name signifies “Yash” Dharma.
ANGI-KRUTAU SAMARYADAH
Meaning: One who accepts with Grace (Maryada = Pushti-maryada = Anugrah)
Shree Mahaprabhuji accepts the jeevs with grace/Pushti-maryada (Anugrah). Shree
Mahaprabhuji looks at the situation and the eligibility of the jeev while accepting them.
He accepts some by giving the Mantro-updesh, some by just looking at them, etc.
Pushti-maryada is nothing but “Krushna-nugrah”. Shree Mahaprabhuji first takes
the jeev in his shelter. Thereafter the jeev accepts the shelter of Shree Krushna via
Shree Mahaprabhuji. This is Brahma-sambandh. The right to do Bhagwat Seva is
obtained as soon as a jeev takes Brahma-sambandh. Shree Krushna says to jeev,
“Once I have accepted you, I will never ever leave you” - This is Krushna-nugrah.
Following this pushti maryada Shree Mahaprabhuji accepts the jeevs. Shree
Mahaprabhuji did anugrah on Gopaldas, from Vaansvaada, by just sprinkling water from
the palm of his hand. And also just by looking at a trader's horse, who was a daivi jeev,
near Paan Sarovar in Nand gaam.
This name signifies “Shri” Dharma.

MAHA-KAARUNI-KAH
Meaning: One who is greatly merciful.
Shree Mahaprabhuji is known as Krupa's (grace) Nidhi (treasure). Due to this he is also
extremely merciful because Krupa's other form is Karuna (mercy). One cannot be Merciful
without being Graceful. Since Shree Mahaprabhuji is greatly merciful, following the karuna
dharma and by anugrah, he has done the angi-kaar of women, shudra, untouchables, etc.
Shree Mahaprabhuji never looks at the sins and faults of a jeev, but looks at them with mercy
and accepts them in Pushtimarg. He donates the best fuits of Bhakti to these accepted souls.
By giving them Brahma-sambandh, he also resolves their (jeevs') Panchvid Dosh.
Shree Mahaprabhuji is worried that this jeev, who is now pure and clean after his acceptance,
might fall in the traps of sins, so he being extremely kind shows the jeev the way to stay out
Page 7 of 9

of this trouble. He says, “Stay away from Anyashray, Asatsang and Asamarpit things”. Shree
Mahaprabhuji orders(agya kare che) the pushti jeevs, “Asamarpit vastunam tasmad varjanmacharet |”.
Greatly merciful Shree Mahaprabhuji first cleanses the jeevs of any sins, then to avoid those
jeevs falling in the traps of the sins again he shows the solutions. He truly has no limits to his
mercy. In Adail, He accepted, in Pushtimarg, a brahmin woman by forgiving her unforgivable
sins and by giving her Pushtimargiya Seva by just following the karuna dharma.
Shree Mahaprabhuji has accepted many pushti jeevs in the same way. Like Damordas Harsani,
Krushnadas Meghan, Padmanabhdas, Rajo Kshatrani, Madhav bhatt Kashmiri, Surdasji, etc.
This name signifies “Gyan” Dharma.
VIBHUHU
Meaning: One who is capable of doing everything (even the immpossibile)
Shree Mahaprabhuji shows his capability and competence by doing grace on Pushti jeevs.
Shree Mahaprabhuji gave darshan to Pahmaa Raval, Mavji Patel and Veerjo in the form of God.
Pahmaa Raval, Mavji Patel and Veerjo had attachment (aasakti) with Shree Ranchodji's
Page 8 of 9

Swaroop. Due to this Shree Mahaprabhuji gave darshan to them in the form of Shree
Ranchodji.
In Maha Raas, Shree Thakorji took the same number of forms as there were Gopijans.
Similarly when Shree Mahaprabhuji arrived in Vadnagar, the Brahmins over there were eager
to go to Shree Mahaprabhuji's sharan. The entered into a competition that I want to be first. In
order to fulfill this wish Shree Mahaprabhuji took as many forms as the Brahmins and took
them in his sharan at the exact same time.
Without thinking about jeevs eligibility or ineligibility, even if the jeev is ineligibile, to make
jeev eligibile and to bind the Jeev and Prabhu in a relationship is only possible for someone
who is capable of doing everything. Hence the name Vibhuhu.
This name signifies “Vairagya” Dharma.
