OSHAWA MILITARY & INDUSTRIAL MUSEUM
The Lynn Philip Hodgson Camp-X Collection memorializes the contributions
of the air force during World War II. In addition, the exhibit details the
once highly secret exploits of Camp X, a nearby spy school that operated
during the war, sprawling over the town lines of Oshawa and Whitby. This
permanent collection is located at the Region of Durham Headquarters.
The museum houses the largest collection of operational tanks and military
equipment in Canada. On display is the Ontario Regiment’s (RCAC) long
history of service and gallantry. Also on display is the Ontario Regiment’s
Ferret Club’s extensive collection of restored military vehicles, which
includes a number of tanks, wheeled and tracked vehicles. Check the
website for “TANK DAYS” where history comes to life.

Automotive Museum to preserve the automotive history of Canada.

OSHAWA COMMUNITY MUSEUM & ARCHIVES Located in Oshawa’s beautiful Lakeview Park the museum depicts
local history through the interpretation of three restored historic homes,
providing a greater understanding of the lifestyles of Oshawa’s early
inhabitants. Henry House portrays the lifestyle of the minister’s family from
1850 through 1890s and gives insight into Thomas Henry, an activist in
the development of early Port Oshawa. Gift Shop, archives, group tours,
changing displays and children’s programs are offered year round.

DARLINGTON PROVINCIAL PARK
McLAUGHLIN BAY WILDLIFE RESERVE TRAIL – 1.5km
Enjoy camping, birding, hiking and a groomed sandy beach along Lake
Ontario. Just minutes from downtown Oshawa, and the Oshawa Centre.
Conveniently located at Exit 425 off Hwy. 401, just east of Oshawa.
OPEN: Park open year round. Camping May to October.
Owned and maintained by GM for community enjoyment. Located within
the Reserve is a 1/2 km ‘multi-sensory’ (touch, smell and hearing) trail
loop for partially sighted or visually impaired individuals. A series of 11
trails in the McLaughlin Bay Wildlife Reserve — connected to Second
Marsh Wildlife Area and Darlington Provincial Park — part of the provincial
waterfront system. No camping, open fires or dogs* are permitted (*except
for certified guide dogs on the Dogwood trail).

Come out and have some fun along the OPG Waterfront Trail. Explore

HARMONY CREEK TRAIL – 4km

This paved trail is surrounded by lush vegetation and meanders through
the valley along Harmony Creek. Discover native plants such as Jack
the Pulpit, Ostrich Fern and Horsetail. Bird watching and sport fishing
opportunities also exist.

MICHAEL STARR TRAIL – 5km
This urban trail follows a former CN Rail spur line that once connected
Oshawa industries with the rest of North America. The trail recognizes
Colonel Michael Starr’s many contributions to the City of Oshawa and
Canada. This trail provides quick access to Downtown Oshawa. Relatively
flat in nature, the trail has many road crossings.

OAK RIDGE MORAINE TRAIL
This geological phenomenon stretches across the top of southern Ontario,
covering a major stretch through Durham Region. Hikes are coordinated

JOSEPH KOLODZIE OSHAWA CREEK BIKE PATH – 7km
The Oshawa Creek is home to the spring and fall trout and salmon runs;
truly a spectacular event that everyone will enjoy. Surrounded by lush
vegetation this paved path meanders along the picturesque Oshawa Creek
valley with connections to Downtown Oshawa. A number of parks along
the trail provide both passive and active recreational activities.

Purple Woods Conservation Area, the site of the Central Lake Ontario
Conservation Authority’s Annual Purple Woods Maple Syrup Festival,
is a 17-hectare sugar maple forest and open meadow located in the
midst of the provincially significant Oak Ridges Moraine. Here one can
use the viewing platform that is only steps from the parking area to get a
tremendous view south all the way to Lake Ontario from the crest of the
Oak Ridges Moraine.
