Official School Motto
“Victory, through knowledge,
courage, strength, honor”
Official Alma Mater
Long live the Royal,
Brave, wise and loyal.
Oh, Alma Mater, your
Knights vow to you,
Your honored endeavor,
To uphold forever,
Oh, Alma Mater, we bow to you.
To our Alma Mater pledge anew,
Hail the Red, White and Blue.
Official Fight Song
The Royal banners are waiving on high,
With the colors of red, white & blue.
In regal splendor they’ll reach for the
skies,
In our hearts will always be true.
Forevermore will our pride fill the air.
On to victory we sing to you.
Heart to heart, young and old,
We’re fighters rough and bold.
We’re the Royals of red, white and blue.
Meaning of the
Official Crest of
Overfelt High School
Torch
The torch and open book are ancient
symbols for knowledge. It is knowledge
that allows people to learn from the past,
see the world that exists around them and
face the future with confidence.
Castle
A castle is the home of a royal family; it
is a symbol of community. Just as a castle
provides shelter for growth and protection
from danger, so does W.C. Overfelt High
School, through its community-the people
who care about Overfelt.
Lion
The lion is a symbol of courage. People
must stand up for those things in life which
have meaning. High school provides
a setting where values can be openly
discussed and personal ideals may be
developed.
Helmet
In the Middle Ages the helmet was the
symbol of a knight’s identity. Through
knowledge, courage and the shelter of a
caring environment each student has the
opportunity to develop a strong personal
identity.
W.C. Overfelt High School
Absent!
In the event that you must be absent from school, please have your parent:
1. Contact the Attendance Office at 408.347.5900. The parent or guardian must contact the school the first day of the student’s
absence. If the call sounds suspicious, the Attendance Office staff may verify the absence by calling the parent or guardian.
2. Absence Notes: If your parent sends a written verification, it must include your (student’s) name and identification number,
date of absences, reason for the absence, signature of your parent or guardian, and a day-time telephone number where your
parent can be reached. The absence note must be turned into the Attendance Office upon your return to school. Immediately
upon arrival to school, you are to drop off the note at the Attendance Office and then without delay report to your first period
class. If your parent previously called your school, you must report directly to class.
3. After three days, unverified absences will be considered a “cut”. “Habitual cuts” will be referred to the District’s SARB program
(Student Attendance Review Board). Phone calls, warning letters, and the school’s telephone auto dialer will inform the parents
of your uncleared absences.
4. If you will be absent from school for more than three days, have your parent call the Attendance Office regarding your condition
and also contact the Guidance Office at 408.347.5933 for lesson and homework assignments.
5. Advance Absences: If you know in advance that you will be absent, you should bring a note from home to the Attendance
Office before the absence takes place. When it is not possible for you to bring such a written excuse in advance, the parent or
guardian must telephone the Attendance Office by 10:00 a.m. on the day of the absence.
6. Medical verification by a health professional may be required for medical/dental appointments or excessive absences due to
illnesses.
7. Closed Campus: You may not leave campus during the school day, without authorization from the Attendance Office. An
“Advance Admit” must be issued by the Attendance Office, and only with the parent’s consent, prior to you leaving campus
during school hours. Unauthorized leaving of the campus will result in disciplinary action.
It is crucial that students attend class every day. Poor attendance will affect grades.

CLASSES
Class of 2009
Class of 2010
Class of 2011
Class of 2012
Freshman, Sophomore, Junior and
Senior classes are run by elected
student leaders. Classes participate in
fundraising activities, homecoming
events, rallies and dances. Elected
officers are encouraged to enroll in the
school’s leadership class.
Student Photo I.D.’s
All students will be required to carry
and wear a school-issued photo
identification card and present it upon
request. Lost photo identification cards
will be replaced for a $5.00 fee, paid in
advance by the student. Consequences
for failure to produce the Photo I.D.
card upon request from staff or school
officials will range from a warning
to community service. In a situation
where frequent requests have been
made to present a Photo I.D. card
without success, consideration will be
given for an involuntary transfer due to
insubordination.
Student Body Cards
A student body card is a must for all
students. All athletes, spirit team members and student body officers must
buy Student Body Cards. The card will
provide students with free admission to
all athletic events as well as discounts to
dances and many other school activities.
The card also allows students to receive
discounts at local merchants. The card
is the main source of income for student
government and may be purchased at
the school bank. The price is $15.
W.C. Overfelt High School
Student Government
Participation in school management is one of the most interesting and educational phases of school life. You have the experience of real democracy in action
when you make decisions, rules, and laws that enable democratic principles to
come to life. The Associated Students of Overfelt are composed of three main
divisions.
1. The Executive Council - Members see that all student body activities are
carried out well and assist in making laws.
2. The Activities Council - Members review the records of the clubs and help
them act as service groups for various school functions.
3. The Supreme Court - Determines the constitutionality of disputed laws and
judges the qualifications of students running for Student Body Office.
Student Bank
The school bank keeps track of your student body monies. It is also the place to
buy T-shirts, sweatshirts, ASB cards, yearbooks, bids for dances, school supplies
and souvenirs. Don’t wait until the last minute to do business at the school bank.
Lots of students have the problem of waiting until the last minute and find long
lines.
Dances
Dances are held on campus approximately once a month from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00
p.m. with the doors closing promptly at 9:00 P.M. The cost for dances will be $5.00
w/ASB card and $8.00 w/o ASB card. Students who do not attend Overfelt are
allowed only if accompanied by a student who attends Overfelt. Only one guest
per Overfelt student with the approval of W.C. Overfelt Administration. Dances
at Overfelt are extremely successful, and it is the intent of the school to keep them
that way.

only during their actual participation in such activity, or as part of their JROTC

change their clothing and shall be disciplined for each subsequent offense for willful defiance per school and district policy.
7
Need Health Care or
Insurance?
The District does not provide medical
insurance coverage for school
accidents. This means that your family
is responsible for your medical bills if
you get hurt during school activities.
An insurance brochure, showing the
coverage options, is available at each
school site. The student Health Care and
High Option 24-Hour Accident plans
are especially recommended for those
families with no other insurance because
they provide the most help when injuries
occur. Student Health Care covers
illness as well and injury, 24 hours a day.
If your family does have other health
coverage, student insurance may also
be used to help pay those charges not
covered by your family insurance.
1. No-Cost Insurance: Medi-Cal
has expanded so more students
can receive free health care.
2. Low-Cost Insurance: Healthy
Families is a new program
that will give health care to
families who earn more than
Medi-Cal allows. Healthy Kids
insurance is also available to
some students depending on
their parent’s income. This
program provides full medical,
vision, and dental coverage.
*To qualify for one of these programs
you must be younger than 19 years old,
be a resident of Santa Clara County, and
your parents’ income cannot be above
the 300% Federal Poverty Level. For all
questions or to apply call 1.888.244.5222.
