Effective 24 January 2012, the US Department of Transportation (DoT) has
mandated for trips wholly within the U.S. or to/from the U.S. that full baggage
allowance and baggage charges data must be displayed at fare quote, added
to e-ticket receipt at ticketing, and included in email trip confirmations.
Impact Summary:
The impact extends to travel agencies, Meridian hosted airlines and airline IT
subscription customers

Beginning on 9th February, the hyperlink that was added to the passenger

itinerary/invoice documents effective 24 January will be enhanced. The new
hyperlink will take the customer directly to the validating carrier’s baggage
information webpage. Documents include the Apollo DYO, Galileo ETKT
Receipt, and Worldspan LLI.

Overview

Effective 24 January 2012, the US Department of Transport (DoT) has mandated for trips wholly within
the United States, or to/from the United States, that free baggage allowance and baggage charges data
must be displayed at fare quote (specific itinerary pricing) and added to e-ticket confirmations.

From 24 January 2012, Travelport will be providing the following enhancements:
1. Travelport ViewTrip™ (all versions) will provide a link to the baggage details for the operating
carrier of each segment in an itinerary
2. Travelport corporate products Traversa and Trip Manager will have a link to the baggage details
for the operating carrier for each segment placed on their consumer confirmation pages
3. Travelport will provide an advisory on the passenger itinerary/invoice, issued at ticketing time,
that includes a baggage information hyperlink to direct the customer to an indexed alphabetical
list of carrier baggage detail hyperlinks. These documents include:
• Worldspan LLI
• Apollo DYO
• Galileo ETKT Host Receipt
Beginning February 9, the advisory baggage information hyperlink on the itinerary/invoice will
now direct the customer to the validating carriers’ baggage information webpage. If the carriers’
hyperlink does not take the customer to its webpage, the indexed alphabetical
mytripandmore.com/baggage.aspx page will display.
The existing mytripandmore.com/baggage.aspx page with the indexed alphabetical list of airline
URL’s will stay in place for customers who wish to download for their own purposes.
4. Baggage Allowance data contained within pricing/fare quote displays in Galileo, Worldspan and
Apollo will enhance processing to return the first marketing carrier data for trips wholly within the
US or US Territories and the most significant marketing carrier for trips to/from the US or US
Territories. That carrier’s baggage rules will then apply to the journey.
Please note that Fare Quote Best Buy and Low Fare Finder (FQBB//$BB/4PLF) products are not
subject to change as a result of these enhancements.

Detail and Customer Examples
ViewTrip
ViewTrip is Travelport’s electronic itinerary/invoice solution that can be used to email itinerary and
electronic receipt information to passengers. A direct link (URL) to the operating carrier for each
segment present in the itinerary/invoice will be provided. The link will direct the customer straight to the
airline baggage pages. Until such time that interline and codeshare itineraries are fully governed by this
ruling (targeted for June 2012), it is acceptable for ViewTrip to provide a link for the operating carrier of
each segment in an itinerary.
Corporate Products
Traversa and Trip Manager will include a direct link (URL) to the operating carrier for each segment on
the Traveler UI (consumer confirmation page of completed purchase).

Electronic Ticket Confirmations Documents
An advisory message to instruct a consumer to contact the carrier for baggage information will print on
the passenger itinerary/invoice document.
Effective from 9 February 2012, Travelport will provide an advisory on the passenger itinerary/invoice
issued at ticketing time that includes a baggage information hyperlink to direct the customer to the
validating carrier’s baggage information webpage. This link will automatically re-direct customers from
the mytripandmore.com webpage directly to that of the baggage information for the specified carrier.

Carrier Baggage Hyperlinks Page
The hyperlink to MYTRIPANDMORE.COM/BAGGAGE.ASPX when pasted into an internet browser will take
the customer to an indexed, alphabetical list of carrier baggage detail hyperlinks.
These hyperlinks will provide the consumer access to a carrier’s website for baggage allowance/charges
and information on 1st and 2nd baggage details as well as carry-on baggage information.
If you operate an online consumer-booking tool or produce confirmation documents from a nonTravelport GDS source, it is required that consumers are informed that additional fees for bags may
apply and where consumers can go to see these fees.
Should you have any questions or concerns regarding DoT compliance, please contact your booking tool
provider or Travelport account representative to ensure you have necessary updates in place.
