How to attract companies and learning/working desks to participate in Life Long Learning and the Festival To strengthen the radiation and potentials of toppers and masters in a role model New strategies to invite politicians and policy makers closer to the Festival New models of promotions of expert knowledge of tutors within the LLL communities Adult Learner’s Week Wales 13-­‐19 June 2015 WYTHNUS ADDYSG OEDOLION 2015 Adult Learners Week is a UK wide celebration and promotion of learning, coordinated in Wales by NIACE Cymru. They have 350 partners in 22 counties. In 2014 22.266 people developed their skills by participating in the 872 taster sessions delivered through Adult learners Week across Wales. These activities were organized by 22 learning festival Groups (covering all the counties of Wales). The campaign team of NIACE Cymru supported the local groups. Every local group received 200 pounds and backing through the media promotion (radio, advertisements, social media, specialist websites, press advertisements and articles. They have different ideas about this week comparing with the activities that are happening in Wales. But now in 2015 they are showing interests what is happening in Wales, based on local ideas. In Wales they start this festival of Dangerous ideas: •

Give individuals the opportunity to explore the many different kinds of learning; whether they want to get a better job, try something they’ve always wanted to, and be able to help their children at school or discover something new about the world around them Recognize the achievements of outstanding individuals and inspiring learning projects through national and regional awards Attract widespread media coverage, highlighting the stories of people who have transformed their lives and proving that adult learning really does matter Adult learner’s week celebrates all kinds of learners and promotes the benefits of every type of learning Learning can also be fun. You can be a winner. Learning is not cool /trendy, message must be like that. How did you reach your goal? How learning can change your life! In earlier years there was more budget for making short videos. The campaign team ha a good schedule for publicity on radio, local/national newspapers and on-­‐line means. They have a very up dated website with course possibilities in the whole country Re-­‐tweeting is a very important during the campaign, e.g. during/ after the awards ceremony The local marketing via www.alwcymrfu.org.uk and www.careerswales.com/skillsgateway They have a good monitoring/evaluation format that measures who attends the Adult Learner’s week and signs up for a course Project ideas •

How do you get there? What do you love to learn? How can you reach this goal? Live stories need to be showed because they are very motivating for future learners •

The Welch festival is enthusiastically supported by Welsh Government, Department of Education and Skills The Welch Festival is highly supported by press and media NIACE represents a unique forum for collaborative organization of outreach activity across Wales (inclusive companies) Life Long Learning projects in Wales: formal and informal learning and statutory and non-­‐
statutory sectors are described There have three strategic areas (North And Mid, South West And South East ) with three preparatory meetings a year NIACE has 100,000 Pounds for the Festival, without counting salaries In Wales they receive more nominations for the awards In Wales they have an updated website with all the learning possibilities under post code Professional PR Information about local need and benefit of education: use of info graphics Good Practices and Learner Stories are used a lot Qualitative evaluation with indicators Celebrities and politicians are involved and engaged Digital Day Conference on Digital Futures including an awards’ ceremony for secondary school students who participated in the Dangerous Ideas on Digital Future. 17 % of the population of Wales does not have any connection with Internet /or they have not skills * What are 21st century skills? •
