“The School of Choice”
Term 2 Week 8
Friday 12th June 2015
Good afternoon Parents and Friends,
It never ceases to amaze me how many wonderful things our students are getting up to.
We’ve had a Zone Cross Country Carnival, Premiers Debating Challenge, Didjeribone
Aboriginal performance, Chess competitions, ICAS assessments, Waste Free Lunch Week,
Gardening, Be Skilled Be Fit Athletics sessions as well as classes busily creating their
wonderful class artwork for the Kenthurst Art Festival. This truly reflects our dynamic and
engaging school.
On Monday June 15 our Stage 3 students, Mr Vella, Miss Puddy
and I will be travelling to Canberra to visit many exciting
attractions. The 3 day excursion will be a valuable learning
experience for all of the students and I know they will be
outstanding representatives of our school. We look forward to
sharing their experiences with you in the next newsletter.
Our Debating Team participated in Round 3 of the Premiers
Debating Challenge on Tuesday. We debated against
Londonderry Public School and the topic of the debate was
‘Parents should give their children pocket money’. Kenthurst
were the negative team and developed some very strong
arguments against the topic. As a result we won the debate.
Congratulations Oliver, Tyra, Alyssa and Douglas on a great
debate.
This week we watched a fantastic Aboriginal performance called ‘Didjeribone’. Students
were musically entertained by Tjupurru. He played an instrument called the didjeribone
which is a combination of didgeridoo and trombone. The students layered their own
sounds to create music to accompany the didjeribone. Tjupurru played the National
Anthem and students sang along. He also played many other familiar beats for the
students to clap along to. I spoke to some of our students after the show and their
responses were “I would love to see the performance again” , “ It was really
funny and entertaining!”.

Congratulations to all students who represented Kenthurst Public School at the Ridges
Zone Cross Country. All students who attended the carnival proudly represented
Kenthurst and strived to achieve their personal best. Their behaviour was outstanding
and they displayed our school values of Respect, Responsibility and Personal Best at all
times. Thank you to Mr Vella and Miss Puddy for organising and supervising our zone
team. Special congratulations to students who placed in the top 8 within their age
groups: Jessica - 8th, Douglas - 4th and Steven - 8th. These three students were members of
the Ridges Cross Country Team and competed at the Sydney West Carnival this week. We
are yet to receive their final results however, it is a wonderful achievement to reach this
level of competition. We are very proud of you Jessica, Douglas and Steven.
Thank you to those families who have been donating food items for the Dural District
Anglican Churches Food Drive. Your generosity is greatly appreciated.
On Tuesday June 23 we will be holding our ‘Winter Wonderland’ Disco. Students are
encouraged to come dressed in appropriate winter clothing and bring plenty of energy so
they can dance the night away! All money raised will be contributed towards updating
our interactive whiteboards.
Have a wonderful fortnight!

Stage 1
In Stage One we have been learning about different types of punctuation like speech and exclamation
marks, so we have used them in our story writing.
We also have a saying in S1E which is BAN THE BORING BEGINNINGS!
We hope you enjoy a sample of our writing and you are hooked right from the beginning.
Michelle Year 2
Cough, laugh, cough, laugh!
I learnt yesterday that sounds can be put into a beat and become music. Tjupurra made Year Six do the
limbo. Tjupurra said the teachers are better at the limbo.
He said “Which teacher will come up and demonstrate?”
Miss Armstrong went up. Then Tjupurra said she could choose another teacher and she chose Mr Vella.
They did the limbo and the teachers were pretty good.
Everyone yelled because he was so funny!
Axel Year 2
“But wait ….there’s more!”
We heard Tjupurra say this in his show called Didjeibone and we
laughed every time.
Tjupurra had a seismic sensor for vibrations in the ground and in
his mouth. It sounded gross when it was in his mouth, but that’s
how he used it.
Sasha had his birthday on that day so he went on the stage and
struck a pose in front of the school.
Twelve Year Sixes went up on the stage to do the limbo.
“But wait…there’s more!”
Unfortunately I can’t think of anything!
Cooper Year 1
“But wait… there’s more” said the aboriginal man.
I began to laugh. He played music on his didjeribone. It sounded
like a trombone.
The Year Six boys and girls did the limbo. The Year Six boys won
the limbo competition.
Callum and Sienna did the chicken dance. They made me laugh.
Bethany Year 2
Clap, clap, clap!
That is the whole school clapping to the beat of the music while Tjupurra played the didjeribone.
Sasha was asked to go on to the stage and he had to strike a pose. While he was walking we clapped to
the beat of his walking.

Our stage two and three students have been competing in separate chess competitions. There have
