SEASONS CHANGE...
gradually. As a summer
of revelry and fundraising
in the Hamptons came
to an end it was briefly
all quiet on the Eastern
Front. In the blink of
an eye, however, New
York City was very much
in full gear for the Fall
benefit season. This year,
however, Hurricane
Katrina’s destruction
of a vast section of the
southeastern United
States, in and around
New Orleans, Louisiana
resulted in the alteration
of plans for many in the
fundraising community.
Scheduled fundraisers
for certain worthwhile
charitable organizations
shifted their focus to
raise funds for victims
of Hurricane Katrina. A
national tragedy became
a local priority. New
Yorkers from all walks
of life and not just the
corridors of power and
privilege seemingly got
involved in one way or
another with assisting in
the relief effort.
At the D&D Building’s
40th Anniversary Lenox
Hill Neighborhood House
Benefit Celebration, guest
of honour was Mayor
Michael Bloomberg.
