Saint John the Evangelist
“We are not nourished, some from one body, others
from another, but all from the same Body!”
... Our celebration in honor of the Body and Blood
of Christ dates back to the 11th century as a response to the heresy of Berengarius of Tours, who
denied the presence of Christ in the consecrated
bread and wine. The Belgian, Blessed Juliana of
Mount Cornillon, began to promote a festivity that
eventually became the feast that it is today!
... Monsignor Timothy Harnett guided and directed
our Saint John parish family for 27 years until his
retirement in 2006, and still assists to this day.
Congratulations to Monsignor on his 57th Anniversary of Ordination this Monday (3).
... Striving to guide and direct us today are Father
Joseph, whose 8th Anniversary of Ordination is
also this Monday (3), and Father Brian, whose 41st
Anniversary is this Tuesday (4). Ad multos annos!
... And how about Deacon Bob Beiner, whose 7th
Anniversary of Ordination is this Sunday (9).
Congratulations to Bob and Liz!
... Our Saint John ‘Class of 2013’ and their families
celebrate their graduation this Thursday (6), at
5:30pm, in the church. All are welcome.
... On Wednesday (5), our ‘Class of 2013’ celebrate their Ribbon Mass at 9:30 am, with the entire
School, and gather with family for Dinner and
Awards, in the Hall, at 5:30pm.
... Tickets for our Fiesta Grand Drawing, on August 18, with prizes of $5,000, $2,500, $1,000 and
$500, are $2 each or a book of 30 for $50. Watch
for the early bird’ drawings!
... Tickets have gone home with our children. Try
to return them by the end of the school year! Parish families will receive them in the mail very soon!
... Please make a pledge to our Annual Catholic
Appeal, which assists the extensive ministry of our
Diocese. Response cards have been mailed. To
date, just 208 families have responded. Have you?
... Our Holy Name Society meets on Monday (3),
Saint Vincent de Paul on Tuesday (4), both at
7:00pm, the Men’s Fellowship on Wednesday (5) at
7:00am, and on Thursday (6), the Knights gather at
6:00pm and the Altar Society at 6:30pm! Serving!
... The first Friday of each month, that’s this Friday (7), is a special day of prayer here at Saint John
for vocations to the priesthood in San Diego. The
8:00am Mass is followed by Adoration and Benediction of the Most Blessed Sacrament. Wow!

APRECIAR LA EUCARISTÍA
Durante siglos, la
fiesta
que
hoy
celebramos se llamó
Corpus Christi (Cuerpo
de Cristo) y se
conmemoraba el jueves
siguiente al Domingo
de la Santísima
Trinidad.
bendijo a Abram.
