And, don’t let our size fool you. The Williamsburg area is a major
conference destination that has served as host to some of the world’s
most prestigious and demanding groups. In January 2006, the Virginia
Gubernatorial Inauguration moved to Williamsburg for the first time since
Thomas Jefferson’s in 1779. In 2007, capping a year-long commemoration
of America’s beginnings here in the Historic Triangle, over 500 leaders
from mature and emerging democracies met to explore the future of
democratic institutions around the world.

We can’t forget those meetings held with Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, George
Mason and Patrick Henry debating the ideas of liberty, independence and personal freedom
that led to the founding of American democracy. And how about that “meeting” between
Generals Washington and Cornwallis on the battlefield at Yorktown in 1781? It seems safe to
say that meetings here have been known to change “the course of human events.” In 2007,
after a 50-year hiatus, Britain’s Queen Elizabeth returned to the Historic Triangle for the 400th
Anniversary Commemoration. President George W. Bush also attended ceremonies during
the Commemoration year here in Williamsburg.
Over the years, we have enjoyed the honor of accommodating numerous other prestigious
world visitors including the late Emperor Hirohito of Japan, Lady Margaret Thatcher, Prince
Charles, and more recently Supreme Court Justice and Chancellor of the College of William &
Mary, Sandra Day O’Connor, former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, and former Secretary
General of the United Nations, Kofi Annan. Captain John Smith and the early colonists found
their perfect meeting site at Jamestown. Washington, Jefferson and Patrick Henry found
theirs at the Capitol and the Raleigh Tavern. You’re sure to find yours here, too.

first meeting held in the new world was in July of 1619 in the Church at Jamestown when
America’s first legislative assembly met. In January 2008, the Virginia legislature returned to

Offering 295 quality guest rooms and 53,000 square feet of meeting space, The Williamsburg

ntroducing 125 acres of majestic woodlands, ravines, rolling fairways and dramatic hazards.
This is the Gold Course — 18 holes that Robert Trent Jones Sr. called “my finest design.” Par
from the championship tees is 71 over 6,817 yards. Seven holes pose water hazards. The longest
par-5, the 15th, measures 631 yards from the championship tee. The shortest hole, the par-3
16th, plays without fairway to an island green. Equally impressive are the accolades. Golf Digest
ranks the course as one of Robert Trent Jones Sr.’s top six designs, and GOLF Magazine listed
it in the “Top 100 You Can Play” and selected holes 16 and 17 for inclusion in its ranking of the
“Top 500 Golf Holes in the World.” Condé Nast Traveler Magazine named the Gold Course and
the adjacent Williamsburg Inn among its choices for the “75 Top Golf Resorts in the World.”

he Green Course, designed by Rees Jones and opened in 1991, perfectly blends the
challenge of championship golf with a spectacular mix of natural terrain that accommodates
varied playing skills. “It’s rugged land, with lots of ravines and draws,” Rees said. “This is a
shotmaker’s course.” Offering fairways and rough carved from 250 acres of mature woodland, the
Green Course plays 7,120 yards from the championship tees. Water comes into play on six holes,
two played over water and four with lateral hazards. No stranger to excellence, the Green Course
has been a constant among Virginia’s top 10 courses since it opened for play. In fact, it received
4 1/2 stars in Golf Digest’s listing of “Places to Play” and was noted in Zagat Survey: America’s
Top Golf Courses.

Kingsmill features three distinctive layouts created by some of
golf’s biggest names. Pete Dye’s River Course has 30 years of
memorable PGA and LPGA tournament play, and is currently

trace Jamestown’s beginnings in England and
the first century of the Virginia colony, and
describe the cultures of Powhatan Indians,

Civil War in Williamsburg
In a harshly fought May 5, 1862 battle, 73,000 combatants met on the very
outskirts of Williamsburg for a single day that took the lives of nearly 1,000
men with twice that number wounded. From that day until the end of the war,
Williamsburg and its citizenry served under an occupying force. And the line
dividing two countries was drawn just north of the College of William & Mary,
located in the very heart of Williamsburg.

Gardens in Williamsburg
Springtime in Williamsburg is filled with the colors and scents of flowers blooming

Colonial Williamsburg’s Historic Area, as well as the more contemporary gardens

Christmas in Williamsburg
Williamsburg has long been recognized as one of America’s favorite
Christmas destinations. Each year, throughout the Historic Area of Colonial
Williamsburg, homes and taverns are decorated in holiday finery. Boughs,

In Christmas Town, stroll under a canopy of more than two million lights at
Busch Gardens’ celebration of the season. Enjoy the shows, foods, sights and
sounds of Christmas throughout the park. Visit Santa’s Workshop where you
can meet St. Nick himself.
Continue the celebration throughout the Historic Triangle where the season
comes alive at Jamestown Settlement and the Historic Yorktown Village. And leave time for that Christmas
shopping you have yet to complete.
