Newsletter - Collegiate Charter School of Lowell
Newsletter
June 2016
Greetings from Our Director
Dear LCCS Parents/Guardians:
It is very difficult for me to believe that I am writing to you on June 1st! Time
is a funny thing; we have very long days and short months, how can that
be? There is a lot going on down the stretch at LCCS and we are as excited as
the students for June.
I want to let you know that I am participating in a radio interview, made
available by the Greater Lowell Chamber of Commerce, to promote the
school. I will be on air at WCAP on Thursday, June 2 at 10am. I have the
perfect face for radio but not sure about my voice...lol.
We are also participating in a wonderful event on June 2nd. There is a ribbon
cutting ceremony at 2:00pm where LCCS will be posted side by side with the
Transfiguration Church at the dedication for Decatur WAY- Water, Art and
You. Please see the attached flier below for your reference. Students will donate
some art work, poetry, and Mr. Parisi will bring one of his classes to sing a song
in tribute. We are proud to be part of such a wonderful dedication!
For parents of Hellenic students: please note that the Hellenic Academy has
asked us to dismantle the Cultural Center portable classroom set up on the
weekend of June 11 and 12. Hellenic Academy students last day is June 10 and
we will move our 4th and 5th graders into the Hellenic Academy School
Classrooms to start the week of Monday, June 13 through the end of our school
year. The Hellenic needs their gym space as they begin their planning for their
annual Festival.
As we head into the summer months, please note that we will continue to
communicate through email, one call system, mailings and our Facebook page
on details and plans for the school. In particular, I will send out a monthly
update in July and August on our moving into the new Middlesex Street facility.
Last, I would like to thank you all for your support and collaboration in making
this school year a positive success. Your children, our students, are wonderful
and have worked incredibly hard this year. I know that they will finish strong
as they head into a wonderful, well-earned summer break.
Best,
Frederick

Important Reminders
From Our School Nurses
We would like to remind parents to please apply sunscreen
to students every day and send them with a bottle of water.
We want to reduce the risk of sunburns that could lead to skin
cancer. Also, the students very often go outdoors more than
once for other activities such as PE, extra recess, etc. We
would like them to stay well hydrated now that the heat has arrived.
Students are welcome to bring a hat or sunglasses to wear during outdoors activities.
They are responsible for bringing home these items.
Lost & Found
June 23rd (last day of school) is the last day to claim any missing items. After this
day, unclaimed belongings will be donated to a charity.
Our last day for AFTER School care will be Wednesday, June
22nd. We will still have BEFORE school care available for the
morning kids on Thursday, June 23rd.
Parents must pay their extended day program balance off
by Friday, June 17th, if they want to be considered in our Extended Day Program in
September. Please feel free to contact Mrs. Vannak Theng-Sanders with questions
and concerns via email to: [email protected].

EOY - Revision Weeks: Grades 3-5 revision weeks will be June 1st – 14th.
Students will be reviewing materials from the entire school year in preparation
for their End of Year (EOY) exams. Please watch out for the revision packet,
your child’s current math, ELA and overall grades, and the End of Year exam
schedule in a red folder that will be sent home on June 1. Other than reviewing
the revision packets with your child, it is advised to review the periodic exams
that have been sent home throughout the school year. Please contact Kirsten
Hunkapiller with any questions at 978-458-1399 ext. 1133 or via email
at [email protected] .
End of Year (EOY) Exams: It is mandatory that students take the EOY exams
since scores count for 40-50% of their entire grade for each subject. Please
ensure your child comes to school on time each day from June 15-23, since
exams will start at 9am each day.
Oral Exams: English and Spanish oral exams for 3rd grade will take place
during June 1-14. Spanish oral exams will take place in grades 4 and 5 during
the same time.
Many have been the accomplishments during this school year for the Parent
Connection (All LCCS Parents)! We enthusiastically look forward to our next school
year at our new location; where more opportunities for fun events are expected.
Opportunities that will only be possible with your support and participation.
Please join us on our next meeting on Monday, June 13th at 6:00 pm at the
Transfiguration Church. We will be holding elections for the Parent Connection
Board on this day. Please feel free to send any nomination for board members prior
to June 10th. See the email sent to parents on May 15th for more information.
Additional Volunteers for 2016-2017 needed!!!! We are looking for people to take
the lead on the following projects: monthly newsletter, fundraising, school apparel,
family fun nights, charity contributions, teacher appreciation week and Box Tops
Parent Connection would like to encourage you to continue your support during the
summer through the two following fundraising programs:
STAR Testing: We will evaluate your child’s reading comprehension range
again at the end of the school year via STAR testing. The results will be sent
home with your child’s report card.
Shoparoo is a free app available at iTunes and Google
Play Store. Through this program, you can help school
earn cash by snapping a picture of your everyday receipts.
Winners of the AR Incentive Program: As informed on the previous
newsletter, grades 3rd - 5th participate every month in the Accelerated Reader
Incentive Program. In each grade, the 5 students that take the most quizzes
every month are rewarded with a special party. Below are the winners for the
months of April and May. In parenthesis is the number of quizzes taken in that
month. April winners were rewarded with an ice cream party and May ones
with a popcorn party.
