Dear Parent/Guardian
As Executive Head of the Federation of Carno, Glantwymyn and Llanbrynmair I
would like to thank everyone for their support since the beginning of my post in
September 2014. I wish to give my personal thanks to school staff, parents and
children for their continued hard work over the school year. I also thank the
members of the Governing Bodies of Carno, Glantwymyn and Llanbrynmair for their
work and dedication to their schools.
A special thanks to Mrs Bethan Jones as Acting Head, for her important contribution
over the last academic year and for her support since September 2014.
However, the most important element of all is the children; they are the key to a
good school. I thank them sincerely for their diligence and enthusiasm.
We had a lot of success last year - staff, parents, children and governors. We must
build on this success so that all children reach their full potential.
Since the establishment of the Federation of Carno, Glantwymyn and Llanbrynmair
in September 2014, the staff of the schools have been working closely to ensure a
successful future for the three schools. Since November 2014 one new governing
body exists.
The Chairman and Clerk of the Governing Body for Carno, Glantwymyn and
Llanbrynmair Federation is:
Mr Iwan Morgan (Chair), Brynaerau Isaf, Llanbrynmair
Mrs Eleanor Jones (Clerk), Y Garth, Llanbrynmair
The membership of the new governing body can be found on the school website and
on the next page for information. Details of the forthcoming annual meeting with
parents are outlined below with a copy of the Annual Report.
Thanks for your support, assistance and cooperation.

Governors’ Annual Report to Parents
2013 – 2014
A word of welcome from the Chairman
Dear Parents
During the last three years discussions have been held on the future of schools in this area.
The decision to federate Carno, Glantwymyn and Llanbrynmair was eventually made and a
new Governing Body has been formed. Mr Nigel Hughes was appointed Executive
Headteacher, and we wish him well in his new post. In addition three assistant
headteachers have been appointed: Mrs Bethan Williams, Carno; Miss Llinos Roberts,
Glantwymyn and Mrs Bethan Gwawr Jones, Llanbrynmair.
I am pleased to present the Annual Report to our parents. You can see that pupils have
taken part in a wide range of activities in addition to their academic work. Many of these
activities involve people other than our school staff and parents and we are grateful for their
contribution to school life.
The Governing Body wishes to congratulate the children on their efforts and achievements
in their school work, Eisteddfodau, sports and many other community events. Thanks and
praise is of course owing to all school staff for their excellent work throughout the year.
I am confident that everyone in our local community will continue to support the work of the
school.
Yours sincerely

Curriculum Statement
Curriculum Development:
The school aims to provide a balanced curriculum in accordance with the requirements of the
National Curriculum in order to stimulate the development of educational, emotional and
social each individual child. The practice and procedures of the Foundation Phase are in
place.
Discriminatory procedures are used to develop the potential of every child to its full
development. We aim to achieve the goals in a lively, intimate, interesting and creative way.
The school policy documents can be viewed at the school in all subject areas; planned work
in each subject area is also in place - in accordance with the guidelines of the National
Curriculum.
The policies and work plans are being continuously monitored and reviewed in accordance
with any update changes. They are checked annually by the Governing Body in June.
Action Plans:
The School has a Development Plan and is fully operational. There is a close link between
the school's self evaluation documents that are reviewed annually.
Progress in setting and meeting targets:
Targets are set by the school and are part of the School Development Plan. Targets include
the school, the classes, the groups and individual pupils. The school sets targets,
commensurate with their ability and achievement, for each pupil. The children set personal
targets as independent learners.
These are the most recent targets for pupils' attainment by the end of the Foundation Stage
and Key Stage 2.

Staff Development / Performance Management
Performance Management is the term used to describe the process of agreeing annual
performance targets involving discussions between teachers and their team leaders,
Headteachers and the Governing Body. Performance management supports the work of
teachers as individuals and in teams. It establishes a framework for teachers and their team
leaders to agree and review priorities and objectives in the context of the school’s
development plan. It motivates staff to be more effective in their teaching and subject
leadership. This in turn leads to the raising of standards for the whole school.
All teaching staff set targets with the Headteacher and review meetings take place and new
targets are identified and discussed for the forthcoming year.
All teaching assistants also go through the same process as above.
All teaching assistants received training in ICT during the year from an external company to
improve skills using a variety of programmes including power point and word processing.
Moderation Day
All teachers from across Powys came together in the different regions in April to moderate
work across the schools. The work that was being assessed included Language,
Mathematical Development and Personal and Social Development for Foundation Phase
(Year 2) and English, Maths for Key Stage 2 (Year 6).This process ensured that all teachers
assessed pupil’s work effectively and accurately ensuring that the appropriate levels were
awarded to pupils at the end of Key Stage.
Local Education Authority & ERW
During the year the school have had 2 core visits from the School Development Officer. The main
purpose of the 1st visit during the Autumn term was to discuss the schools performance data, Self
Evaluation and Performance Management and the second visit during the Summer Term was
based on book scrutiny. At the end of the second core visit the Authority placed the school in the
good to excellent category.
School Council
The Council invites Mrs Heulwen Jones, a member of the School’s Governing Body to their
meetings, to promote the link between the school and the Governing Body.
This year representatives from the School Council were invited to interview the new Head teacher
as part of the interview process. The School Council also contributed to the Eco School Action
Plan and talked to Mrs Esyllt Davies form Eco Schools Wales when she came to reward the
school with the 2nd Eco flag. They discussed all suggestions within the suggestion box, planned
and held a Christmas Party and arranged a spots and stripes day to raise money for the PLAN UK
project.
Healthy Schools
The school is part of the Powys Healthy Schools programme. Pupils are
encouraged to eat fruit at morning snack times. The Foundation Phase pupils have
a free drink at morning break and pupils in the junior class are able to buy a glass of
milk for 25p a day. The school cook follows the healthy menu set by Powys Country
Council. The Foundation Phase pupils grow vegetables in the garden to sell in the
Farmers Market during the Summer Term.
Eco Schools
The school was awarded their 2nd Eco School Flag during the Summer Term.
ADDITIONAL LEARNING NEEDS
The Governor for Additional Learning Needs (ALN) is Mrs Heulwen Jones.
Objectives:

Learning Needs co – ordinator, the Headteacher and support staff within the school. The
aims of the ALN provision is that all tasks, resources and materials are differenciated in
order to match work to pupils needs.. This is reflected in the work schemes and any
planning work being developed at the time. We recognise More Able and Talented pupils
and encourage all pupils to work to their best potential through formal and informal activities.

of one term’s notice to the Head of Schools, with one non-pupil day being deemed to
be the equivalent of 3 twilight sessions of 2 hours each.
