Worshipping God with Passion
Music and Arts
God has provided WUMC with different gifts and talents. The music ministry is part of the body of the church that meets
together to worship God with passion. Every week we practice together, pray together, learn new songs and hymns and
meet together for worship.
All are called by God to praise Him with joyful songs, instruments and voices. WUMC has different services for you to be a
part of in order to experience different worship styles. Adults, children and youth gather together for the same purpose: To
worship God with passion. Whatever service you attend, you are gathered in spirit to worship with all members of Weddington United Methodist Church.

turn-of-the-century Sanctuary. You have the opportunity to hear

Intentionally Growing in Faith
Adult Ministry
Rev. Mark Curtis
Associate Pastor
Our goal for Adult Ministries at Weddington UMC is to intentionally grow in faith. In addition to finding a worship service
that is meaningful, we encourage everyone to find a place of connection in a small group or bible study experience. As
Weddington UMC continues to grow, it is important that we build personal connections through bible study, small groups,
Sunday School classes, or one of the many opportunities we offer for spiritual growth. Take a moment to look over the
opportunities for discipleship offered here at WUMC. If you have questions please feel free to contact Rev. Mark Curtis at
704.814.1308 or [email protected].
Disciple Bible Studies
Information for the Mind, Transformation for the Heart
Disciple Bible Study is in many ways the heart of discipleship here at WUMC.
Disciple studies will take you on a journey through the Bible. You will set out
on a biblical adventure together, yet you will each be on your own journey of
discovery and personal growth as you grow closer to God and deepen your
faith in Jesus Christ. Disciple Bible Studies begin in September and end in
early May.
Classes offered are Disciple I - Becoming Disciples through Bible study,
Disciple II - Into the Word, Into the World, Disciple III - Remember Who You
Are, Disciple IV - Under the Tree of Life, Jesus in the Gospels, and Christian
Believer.
This is to my Father’s glory, that
you bear much fruit, showing
yourselves to be my disciples.
John 15:8

Intentionally Growing in Faith
Children Ministry
Carolyn Nelson
Minister of Children
At Weddington UMC, we are dedicated in partnering with families in the cultivation of their spiritual growth. Our mission
is to provide the best possible care, comfort, guidance and instruction in the Word of God for children and their leaders.
The Bible is the focus of our curriculum, and adult volunteers are living examples who demonstrate the love of God and
life-changing principles to your child. Our goal is that children will be loved, valued and nurtured in their faith.
The Ark
Noah’s Nursery: Birth through age 2
For your convenience, we offer a professionally staffed nursery
from 9:15 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. on Sunday mornings and for special
church events.
Noah’s Kids: Ages 3, 4, & Kindergarten
Noah’s Crew: Grades 1, 2, & 3
Noah’s Shipbuilders: Grades 4 & 5
We consider Sunday School to be a foundational hour of Bible instruction for children, age 2 through the 5th grade. It is
a time of exciting Bible stories and personal application of God’s Word to a child’s life. We hope all children will be active
participants in this time of discovery. A loving, caring team guides your child to learn the truths about the Bible.
Sonshine Safari: Sunday mornings at 11:00 a.m.
Sonshine Safari is an alternative worship service designed especially for children who are in Kindergarten through 3rd
grade. Join the fun as the puppets lead worship with music, praise, Bible memory and lots of laughs! Sonshine Safari
is held in the chapel across the street from the sanctuary. Board the Blue Bus outside Helms Hall at 10:55 a.m. and at
11:15 at the FLC. Pick up is in the same location after the 11:00 service. This program meets every Sunday during the
school year, except the first Sunday of the month, which is dedicated as Family Worship Sunday.

in their relationships with each other and with Jesus. Each year is an action-packed theme that includes praise and
worship music, Bible games, special crafts, and Bible stories.

Lifegroups are small groups for youth. Each group meets at various times and places throughout the week. Some
read through books and devotionals together, while others focus on community service and other ways to serve within
our church. Lifegroups provide our youth with an opportunity to be in a discipleship group with a small number of youth
their own age and gender.

Intentionally Growing In Faith
Education and Childcare
Weddington Christian Preschool
Weddington Christian Preschool is located on both the Weddington and Bonds Grove campuses. WCP is a ministry
of WUMC welcoming children ages 2 years through Transitional Kindergarten.
Curriculum Using the Bible, The Creative Curriculum (TeachingStrategies.com), and Handwriting Without Tears
(HWTears.com), children in our program are offered opportunities to meet a variety of Christian, academic, physical,
social and emotional goals. The goals and objectives for our 4 and 5 year old programs (5 year old program offered
at Weddington camps only) are designed to prepare a child for Kindergarten. However, the Bible basis of our program
plants seeds of a Christian faith in a child’s heart for a lifetime.
Calendar WCP follows the Union County Public School calendar for holidays. We start our preschool year after Labor
Day and finish in the third week of May. Children attend from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday.
Depending on age, children may attend 2, 3 or 4 days per week.
Registration and Tours Registration is in January for the following school year. Monthly tours are offered throughout
the school year. Facilities are open every Sunday, and guests are invited to walk through the classrooms. WUMC
members receive priority registration.
Enrichment At WCP, children in the 3, 4, and Transitional Kindergarten (5’s) classes attend music for 30 minutes
each week, as well as a monthly chapel service. The 2-year-olds participate in a music & motion class once a week
for 30 minutes. Children are offered outdoor time on our playgrounds for 30 minutes each day, weather permitting.
Car rider drop off and pick up lines are available to bring children into and out of our building.
We believe each child is a unique creation of God, deserving of respect and love. We provide an environment that
allows children to discover the lessons Jesus taught through prayer, instruction, and play each day. We also endeavor
to maintain a warm and welcoming atmosphere that will minister not only to the children but also to the caregiver and
our staff.

Foreign Missions
World Methodist Evangelism in Botevgrad, Bulgaria
Bulgaria is the poorest country in the European Union and has been rebuilding the
church community after Communism fell in 1989. Weddington UMC helped build and
continues to financially support, a church in the town of Botevgrad. WUMC supports
Lipnitsa Orphanage by helping provide the children with meals daily. The school
provides breakfast and lunch for 70-100 children and dinner for 40-50 children. “The
House of Joshua” program, in Skravena, is a network of family-type homes for young
people who leave the orphanage. The program has been developed to break the cycle
of poverty and bring hope for the future. Contact [email protected].
Costa Rica Building Teams
Weddington UMC partners with churches in Costa Rica to help establish facilities
for worship and housing. Most recently we are working with a congregation to build
a shelter for battered and abused women and children. Groups travel to Costa Rica
during the month of January. Contact Bob Consoli at [email protected].
Kenya Missions
WUMC helped start and continues to support, The Home of the Good Shepherd, an
orphanage that houses 67 children in Nyharuru. We partner with God’s Grace for all
Nations (GGFAN), a ministry that starts churches, trains pastors, and takes food and
the Gospel to the 22 unreached tribes in Kenya. We have donated a truck to their
ministry which transports relief food to the unreached tribes and was used to rescue
fellow Christians during the tribal clashes of 2008. For information contact Ron Melvin
at [email protected].
