In the four years since 2004’s acclaimed
Finally Woken Jem has spanned the
globe. Born in Wales, she now resides in
Los Angeles. Thanks to exposure via TV
shows (including The O.C., Grey’s
Anatomy, Desperate Housewives, CSI
Miami, and Six Feet Under) and
soundtracks (including The O.C., Six
Feet Under, and Eragon), literally millions
of listeners worldwide have heard her
music.
The trend will continue with new album
Down to Earth, an album that reflects the
singer/songwriter’s far-ranging
influences. Jem shared production and
writing duties with Jeff Bass, one of the
two brothers credited with discovering
Eminem, and Lester Mendez, whose
impressive resume includes Shakira and
Nelly Furtado. On three selections she
joined forces with Mike Bradford, who
counts Uncle Kracker and Kid Rock
among his credits. Finally, Greg Kurstin
(Kylie Minogue, Beck), the leading expert
in smart dance-pop, was enlisted for the
club cut, “Aciiid!”
KEY SELLING POINTS:
First single, “It’s Amazing” is featured on the Sex And The City soundtrack and in
the season finale of Ghost Whisperer. The track goes to AC and Hot AC radio

“Crazy” is featured in the season premiere of Gossip Girl, as well as the EA

It’s almost impossible to overstate the impact
and importance of Fela Anikulapo (Ransome)
Kuti to the global musical village.
Fela Anikulapo Kuti (born Olufela Olusegun
Ransome-Kuti, October 15, 1938 – August 2,
1997), or simply Fela, was a Nigerian multiinstrumentalist musician and composer, pioneer
of Afrobeat music, human rights activist, and
political maverick.
His death on August 3, 1997 of complications
from AIDS deeply affected musicians and fans
internationally, as a musical and socio-political
voice on a par with Bob Marley was silenced. A
press release from the United Democratic Front
of Nigeria on the occasion of Fela’s death
noted: “Those who knew you well were
insistent that you could never compromise with
the evil you had fought all your life. Even
though made weak by time and fate, you
remained strong in will and never abandoned
your goal of a free, democratic, socialist Africa.”
Now, for the first time, these 2 Fela Kuti albums
are officially available on CD. The tracks on this
album commemorate his passing, celebrate his
musical legacy and perfectly encapsulate his life’s
work: Alagbon Close graphically describes the
goings-on in an infamous Lagos police station and
jail. Why Black Man Dey Suffer, railing against
colonialism. Ikoyi Mentality Versus Mushin
Mentality, lambasting the attitude of the African
bourgeoisie. I No Get Eye For Back proclaiming

Living, working and performing in Los
Angeles for the past seven years, Meiko,
(Mee-Ko), a Georgia transplant, comes to
MySpace Records from the influential ‘Hotel
Café’ club, where she has worked both as a
performer and a waitress over the last three
years. (Hotel Café has also launched the

Often times compared to Sarah Bareilles,

“For the last year, Acres of Lions has been in
a state of contemplation, decision, revision
and repetition. The process of writing good
songs as opposed to bad ones and finding
dedicated people who are willing to give it
their all and stick with it was not at all easy.
What these young musicians are ALSO
aware of, is that it takes dedication and a
good work ethic.
What started out as a misguided, teenageangst ridden quartet, soon transformed into
an energetic rock-trio that began to include
the characteristics the band deemed
necessary to their existence as a musical act:
Melody, volume, spontaneity, odd time
signatures and above all else, energy. Songs
about everyday encounters with people, films
and television and love (as opposed to
heartbreak) soon emerged, and the band
went on attempting to develop their "fun and
energetic" pop-rock sound. Recorded by
Adam Sutherland (Armchair Cynics) and
mixed by Warne Livesey ( Matthew Good,
Midnight Oil) ‘Working’ comprises 10 songs
that represent the happy energy the band
projects in their live performances. The first
single is being worked by Frontside Promotions
to Rock and Modern rock stations initially
with Victoria’s The Zone leading the way.
‘Working’ has impressed legendary A&R man
Simon Williams ( Coldplay, Keane, Death Cab

“Telescope” was recorded over the same 5-day
stretch as “Waiting For the Lights To Come Up”, with
the same band, in the same studio.
“Telescope” is an all-instrumental release featuring
Steve on the pedal steel guitar.
Steve was named “Producer of the Year” at the
Canadian Folk Music Awards in 2005 and 2006.
Steve received a Canada Council grant in 2006 to
study the pedal steel with the world-renowned Greg
Leisz. This recording is the result.
Recorded in Vancouver with an all-star backing
band that includes Scott Amendola (Charlie Hunter,
T.J. Kirk, Nels Cline, Madeline Peyroux) on drums,
Keith Lowe (Bill Frisell, Fiona Apple) on bass, and

Ft. Worth, TX band Calhoun has put the
finishing touches on their third studio album
Falter, Waver, Cultivate, follow up to their
2006 self-titled CD, and 2003’s The Year That
Never Was. Their newest CD was produced
by Stuart Sikes(The White Stripes, Walkmen,
Catpower).
Helmed by Austin born, Dallas/Ft. Worth
raised singer-songwriter Tim Locke,
Calhoun’s modern blend of folk-rock-pop has
garnered nods to the likes of Band of Horses
and Turin Brakes. Of the band’s sophomore
CD the Fort Worth Weekly remarked “Tim
Locke, the guy with the Lennon-McCartneyesque songwriting ingenuity, is currently
riding high with Calhoun and he makes the
most of every note on his bands recent,

We Are Together tells the remarkable and moving
story of a group of children who use music to
overcome hardship and loss. Filmed over a
period of three years, it is the story of an

her siblings living at the Agape Orphanage in

Hollywood Undead Swan Song
Hollywood Undead hails (unsurprisingly)
from the streets of Hollywood, California,
mixing brash hip-hop, rock and minor
metalcore touches with cocky posturing

Andrew DeVillers
Andrew DeVillers is first and foremost a
songwriter. Born in Northern Ontario and
currently based out of Toronto his songs have
hit with the volume and chaos of city life and
have also been performed as stripped down
as the rock on the Canadian shield.
In late February 2007, hibernating in the attic
of his downtown home, Highway 11 was born.
Ever resourceful, DeVillers recorded and
performed everything using borrowed
recording gear, instruments - banjo, mandolin,
guitar and whatever else was lying around the
house. The intimacy and immediacy is
evident in the creek of chairs, floorboards,
sirens and even the sound of wheels racing
through slush three stories below.
