PREREQUISITES
COURSE OVERVIEW
This 3 day course combines key elements of the foundational 2 day CSA Z662
Essentials course and the specialty Pipeline Design and Management Specialty. It is
designed to provide comprehensive instruction for those who have not recently had
any training on CSA Z662 and would like more a complete course with the addition of
specialized training designed specifically for directors, managers, design engineers
and project planning staff involved in the development and execution of Pipeline
Construction projects in Canada. Focusing on the general requirements of oil and gas
pipelines with a review of the CSA Z662-11 - Oil and Gas Pipeline Systems, this
training program covers all relevant clauses from design through to abandonment.
Particular focus will be on the practical application of the new section 3, relating to
management of pipeline design and materials procurement. It will also cover the Safety
and Loss Management requirements in the design and material selection process.

The third day deals extensively on Section 3 and the application of Annex A in the
Safety and Loss management systems, including Integrity Management issues relating
to Design and Materials procurement. Participants will:
• Understand Integrity Management issues relating to Design and Materials
procurement.
• Understand the application of Design and Material documentation requirements.
• Understand record requirements and competency tractability issues.
ASSESSMENT METHOD
The course includes interactive team-based exercises, quizzes and discussion
throughout for added learning value and retention.
