Welcome to our services. This week our country has been horrified at the terrorist attacks in France. We have been reminded that the world is not as God has
made it to be and that evil and death, although defeated at the cross, are still
with us until Jesus returns. The bible readings for today elevate Jesus Christ as
the King of the universe and encourage us to trust that one day everything will
submit to his just reign. We need to be reminded that God can change human schemes and
rulers in a single day. As for our response to ISIS I am glad that we will be accepting refugees
in NZ and hope that there will be many Christians among them.
I bring to your attention the legislation on Euthanasia now in the select committee stage in
parliament. It seems that a majority of kiwis are in favour, but in my opinion opening the door
to voluntary euthanasia would bring unnecessary pressure to bear on the frail and vulnerable.
I also think that no one has “a right to die” and that end of life care in this country is second
to none. I encourage you to read the material in the churches and make a submission to the
select committee by 1 February, or leave your submission at Parish office and we will submit
on your behalf.
Christ is King!
Andrew
Ordination of Graeme Pratley to the Priesthood
Sunday 29 November, 3p.m.
At Christchurch Transitional Cathedral.
Scripture: But as for me, I keep watch for the Lord; I wait in hope for God my Saviour; my
God will hear me. (Micah 7:7 adapted)
Prayer: Almighty Father, whose will is to restore all things in your beloved Son, the King of all:
govern the hearts and minds of those in authority, and bring the families of the nations, divided and torn apart by the ravages of sin, to be subject to his just and gentle rule; who is alive
and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen
