Moving Forward
With business activity generally at such a high level, it was felt that we
needed to expand the sales force to fully realise the opportunities that are
available to us. It was 18 months ago that we announced that John
Robinson’s son Jason, had joined the Company as part of the sales team.
Jason has quickly proved himself to be a great asset to the Company and
we can now report that Jason’s brother, John has also joined the
Company. He is currently gaining experience in different departments and
will then join the rest of the Sales Team. Of course, both Jason and John
junior have the benefit of their father’s vast experience in the bulk tanker
business, which has enabled Jason to gain experience so quickly.
In addition we have also decided to exhibit at Tank-Ex 14, which is being
held at the Harrogate International Centre on the 29th and 30th of May.
We will have a large stand, H19 in Hall H.

Mechtronic Trucksmart
WG Tankers are delighted to be able to announce their collaboration
with Mechtronic Ltd, who are introducing their Trucksmart system to the
UK powder tanker market.
Mechtronic have many years experience in providing technology driven
equipment for bulk liquid tankers. In partnership with Andrew Brodley
UK Transport Manager for Lafarge Tarmac Ltd, who operate one of the
largest powder tanker fleet in the UK, they developed their electronic
management systems for powder tanker application. Andrew comments
“Lafarge Tarmac’s safety policy sits firmly at the heart of everything we
do, as does our philosophy of continual improvement, our vehicles play
a vital role in delivering excellence to our customers. With the help of
Mechtronic and WG Tankers we saw an opportunity to innovate and
take things forward in a way that nobody has done before”.
The Trucksmart system has been developed specifically for powder
tankers and represents the first major development in powder tanker
operating systems for many years. The system not only monitors,
reports and controls critical aspects of the discharge process, but also
provides unique data on the driver’s effectiveness behind the wheel. The
system is web enabled so the management can view activity both in real
time and historically.

The Trucksmart system offers:
Discharge Control. The system pressurises the tanker to 2 bar at
maximum compressor speed and then adopts a cruise speed for the
remainder of the discharge. Evidence suggests that this feature alone
can reduce the average discharge time by up to 20% and reduce fuel
consumption
Complete Emergency shut down. When the emergency stop button is
depressed, the product valves are closed, the tanker is depressurised,
the pto is disconnected and the engine is shut down.
Data Capture. Events are shown on an Exception Report as well as on
Google maps. Each event is date, time and position stamped and tagged
to a driver, tractor unit and tanker.
Unsafe blower start up/tanker over pressurisation.
If a compressor is started whist connected to a loaded tank, a very
dangerous procedure, this is reported on the system as well as reporting
on over-pressurisation and identifying the failure point or the need for
adjustment of the pressure relief valve. It also reports the incorrect
depressurisation of the tank
Braking Efficiency. Intarder braking is measured and displayed as a
percentage of total braking time, which in turn has improved Intarder
use and reduced maintenance costs.
Alcolock Ignition Imobiliser. This feature ensures that drivers are not
under the influence of alcohol whilst driving. Trucksmart ensures that
any aborted ‘engine starts’ are reported immediately to appropriate
management.
Auto Tyre inflation. Trucksmart reports activation of the system so that
the fleet manager, and driver, is aware of a vehicle with a puncture and
can take measures to minimise damage to tyre and mudwing
Truckstart can report on inefficient driving styles such as harsh braking
and impending roll-over situations.
When Mechtronic obtained the contract with Lafarge Tarmac, they
turned to WG to implement the fitting of over 100 systems at their
Purfleet and Waterhouses sites. We worked closely with Mechtronic to
ensure that the installations were carried out with the minimum
interruption to Lafarge Tarmac’s operations.
Andy Spencer, Sales and Marketing Director of Mechtronic Ltd, had this
