Oman, the Arabian paradise, is enriched with a lot of natural
beauty, forts, castle, wadis and a long coastline of 2092 Km. This
Arab country is located in southwest Asia on the southeast coast
of the Arabian Peninsula. It borders the United Arab Emirates on
the northwest, Saudi Arabia on the west and Yemen on the
southwest. The coast is formed by the Arabian Sea on the
southeast and the Gulf of Oman on the northeast.

Historic Sights
Nakhal Fort: It is one of the most prominent
historical monument in Oman, this fort lies amidst
palm orchards in Wilayt Nakhal in Al Batinah
region.
Al Hoota Cave: "Al Hoota Cave" lies in the
southern part of Al Jabal Al Akhdar (Green
Mountain), Stretching upto 5 km but accessible
upto a distance of 860 kms.
Bait Al Naman Castle: Along the coast is the town
of Barka with an impressive fort and Bait Al Naman
Castle, an early home for the Al Bu Said dynasty
(the current ruling family).
Bukha Fort: It is a major landmark and main line of
defense for the west.
Bait Al Qufi: These miniature strong holds built at
local stone are of great importance for the
Musandam.

Places to Visit
Muscat: This 'Arabian jewel', is the capital city of
Oman. It is a complete mix of old and new
architecture. The major tourist attractions in Muscat
are the Jalali fort, Mirani fort, Corniche and Muttrah
souq.
Sohar: Sohar belongs to the fertile Batinah coast
region, and is arguably the most verdant city in
Oman. Sohar fort and wadi Heebi are the
destinations to be visited in Sohar.
Masirah Island: It is an island in the Indian Ocean, 20
kms off central Oman coast just South of
the Wahiba Sands. The visitors can catch hold of the
beautiful marine life and logger head turtles.
Muscat Surrounds
Sur: This spectacular town in the eastern region is a
pleasant getaway for the tourists. The major
attractions of this town are wadi shab and Sur
Maritime museum.
Wahiba Sands: The great Wahiba sands are running
south from the Eastern Hajars to the Arabian Sea.
The tourists can go out for desert safaris and night
camps in Wahiba sands.
Nizwa: This former capital of Oman is very popular
for its historical monuments, handicrafts and
agricultural products and the famous Nizwa souq.
Nizwa fort is one of the oldest forts built in Oman.
Daymaniyat Island: It is located 16 kms from
Batinah coast. One can find vast marine life, coral
reefs, hawksbill turtle and variety of birds.
Jebel Akhdar: Jebel Akhdar in Arabic means "Green
Mountains" and this region of the most verdant
outside of Salalah and the Batinah Coast. Points of
interest include the towns of Wadi Bani Habib, Saiq
and Al Ayn, Where local farmers raise grapes,
pomegranates, apricots and walnuts.
Salalah: It is located in the southern region of Oman.
It is well known fits monsoon known as Khareef. The
Al Mughsayl beach and wadi darbat are the highlight
of this region.
Musandam Peninsula: It is known as the 'Norway of
the middle east'. The Khawr Ash sham is enriched
with dolphins and marine life. Jebel Harim are the
towering peaks of Musandam rising upto 12 kms
above sea.
Al Hoota Cave Lake: The Lake contains several
species of blind fish: some are without eyes but have
long bristles to sense their food, while others have
very small eyes.
Western Hajar Mountains: These tall mountains are
rich with greenery and a lot of wadis. Wadi tanuf and
wadi nakhr gorge are the popular ones. Al Hamra still
contains 400 old mud houses and is the road to Jebel
shams.

Festivals
Muscat Festival: It is held annually between January
and February showcasing the Omani lifestyle,
through various artistic and cultural activities with
vibrant circus and musical shows.
Oman Adventures: This event which is held
annually in November features teams of two
individuals each; one runs while the other cycles.
Oman International Rally: Oman International
Rally; held annually in March, is one of the few rallies
that constitute the Middle East Rally Championship.
Dubai Muscat Offshore Sailing Race: It is held
every January. The boats sail off from Dubai and their
quest at the Bandar Al-Rawdah Marina.
Bidiyah Challenge: It is held every February in the
town of Bidiya in Sharqiyah Region. The aim of the
race is to scale sand dunes in the least possible time.
Sinbad Classic: An international deep sea fishing
contest, the Sinbad Classic is one of the IGFA World
Championships qualifying rounds taking place each
April with participants coming from all across the
globe to fish in the event.
Salalah (Khareef) Tourism Festival: It is held every
year from mid July to the end of August, a complete
festival for the family covering all interests, from
shopping to games and from adventure to shows.
